LLM in American Law

The LLM in American Law Program curriculum is designed to prepare foreign lawyers for the challenge of global practice. Specifically, our program was designed to help internationally trained attorneys gain foundational knowledge of the everchanging US legal environment.

International students can immerse themselves in the US legal system and strengthen their career prospects with our LLM in American Law. The LLM degree provides the skills and credentials necessary for taking the bar exam and working as an attorney in the United States.

By the end of the program, you will have developed skills to make you a more effective global practitioner. You will have gained unique insight into the “mindset” of US lawyers and others trained in the common law. You will have the necessary perspective to work across borders, and transact with lawyers from diverse traditions and backgrounds.

LLM Program Overview

Full-time program

Two consecutive semesters (fall & spring)

24 credits (approximately 10 courses)

Admission Requirements

Law degree or equivalent from a university or law school outside the United States

Application

Personal statement

Letter of recommendation

Transcript and transcript analysis

TOEFL or IELTS score (minimum score of 100 on the Internet-based TOEFL or 7.0 for IELTS)

Statement of financial proof

Visa information (New England Law offers assistance with the visa process)

Scholarships

New England Law’s merit scholarships are open to LLM in American Law students. Students may be awarded scholarships ranging from partial tuition scholarship up to full tuition. All applicants are automatically considered for these generous awards; there is no separate scholarship application.

Bar Exam Preparation

Our graduates consistently pass the state bar exam at significantly higher-than-predicted rates. That is why National Jurist, a leading legal education publication, named New England Law | Boston one of the top 20 law schools for bar preparation in the country that add “the most value to their students when it comes to the bar exam.” LLM students who wish to sit for the bar exam can take advantage of New England Law’s extensive bar exam training and advising programs, which are included in their regular tuition.
