FROM THE PRINCIPAL TEAM END OF TERM Term 1, 2018 will conclude at 1.45pm on Thursday 29th March. We wish all members of the Newcomb Secondary College Community the very best for the Easter holiday break. Term 2 commences on Monday, 16th April. INTERIM REPORTS Teachers are busy preparing interim reports for all students. These will give students and carers an insight into learning behaviours and study habits for Term 1. In conjunction with on-going feedback linked to assessment tasks, our teachers are providing an important reflection on student achievement. Please take the time to check Xuno, read through the reports and feedback and feel free to contact any teachers for further information. STUDENT, PARENT AND TEACHER CONFERENCES These interviews will be happening in Week 1, Term 2 on Thursday the 19th of April, 4pm-7pm and Friday the 20th of April, 8:45am-12pm. Please book online through Xuno or simply write a note in your child’s diary and their teachers can add it into their schedule. The Xuno Portal will be open for bookings on Thursday 29th April. If you do not have access to Xuno, please contact the College. OPEN NIGHT Once again our Open Night was a huge success with over 300 people in attendance. There was a real buzz around the college as families and prospective 2019 Year 7 students had the opportunity to hear about the range of exciting programs and opportunities we can offer our students. The tour groups were very large and our visitors enjoyed chatting with teachers, seeing different subject areas in action and finishing with a sausage, fruit, cake and a coffee. Many of our guests stayed and socialised in the LRC for quite some time afterward and the feedback we received was very positive.

Last Thursday, I shaved off all my hair in front of the whole school. Although I was quiet nervous, I had nothing to worry about, because everyone listened so well and gave me the encouragement and support I needed to brave the shave. On Thursday, alone, I raised an amazing amount of $300 dollars. This most definitely could not have been possible without every student & staff member that pitched in and gave what they could to support me. I want to personally thank every single person that made the day possible, you have helped me reach my goal of $3,000, and for that I am forever grateful. Bianca G - Year 10

SURFING WEDNESDAY 21/03/2018 We arrive at school and there is a really strong on-shore wind. We get the trailer out and load the surfboards from E block. We decide to go to Cosy Corner at Torquay because it is a bit protected from the wind. We do a surf check to see where the rips and the best surf is. We get changed and we get in the water straight away. The surf is really messy but I get a few clean waves and ride them for a good time. Mr Goward and I paddle right out the back and the surf is around 1-2ft and we get some sick waves. We are on G boards. We paddle back to shore and I wash my board in the showers and then load it onto the trailer. We pack all our wetsuits into a bin but I have my own, so I put it in my bag. We had planned to go to Bells Beach to see the set up for the Pro, but there are a few students that need to go to the Gordon, so we drive back to school. There we put the trailer away and washed all the wetsuits. Michael C - Year 10
