FROM THE PRINCIPAL TEAM COLLEGE COUNCIL The March meeting of Council took place last Thursday evening. At the Annual General Meeting, Assistant Principal Mr Shane Elevato presented the 2017 Annual Report. Thank you to Mr Elevato for his work in completing the report. We thanked the outgoing executive: President: Ms Yvette Ramsay, Vice President: Mr Mick Graham, Treasurer: Mr Shane Elevato and Secretary: Ms Karen Warneke. We co-opted Student Leaders; Olive and as well as Sue Case as Community Members and welcomed new parent Angela. We then elected a new executive. Congratulations to Mr Mick Graham who was elected as President, Mrs Cassie Clift who was elected as VicePresident, Mr Shane Elevato who was re-elected as Treasurer and Ms Karen Warneke who was re-elected as Secretary. In summary, the following people make up the 2017/18 Newcomb Secondary College Council. Executive Officer Phil Honeywell Parent representatives Michael Graham, Cassie Clift, Gail Fearnhead, Kelly Timms, Maryanne Cleasby and Angela Hancocks DET Representatives Shane Elevato, James Murphy, Lara Field and Glenn Hopgood Community Representatives Karen Warneke, Olive Bultman and Sue Case INFORMATION EVENING Newcomb Secondary College will be holding an open evening for prospective enrolments on Monday 26th March. The evening commences at 6.30pm with an information session followed by a guided tour of the College. More information can be found on the following page. INTERIM REPORTS AND PARENT STUDENT TEACHER CONFERENCES The Interim Reports will be available on Xuno at the end of Term 1. Parent Student Teacher Conferences will be held towards the end of Week 1 in Term 2. More information will be available in following newsletters. Last Tuesday, a group of our Indigenous students met and worked with local artist Nathan Patterson on a collaborative work depicting Bunjil the eagle spirit. The work will be displayed at the Geelong Art Gallery in the "Let's Talk Recognition- A

Children's Art Exhibition."

School Lawyer Program Continues in 2018 We are delighted to announce that the School Lawyer Program will continue at Newcomb Secondary College in 2018. The program will be led by Ms Sarah Wood and Ms Alison Lever from Victoria Legal Aid. The School Lawyers will be on campus each Friday (during term time) between the hours of 8.30am and 3.30pm. Access to legal support can also be obtained at other times by appointment. The lawyers provide legal information and advice to students, parents, teachers and the wider school community. Typically, the lawyers provide advice in relation to criminal and family law matters, family violence issues, cyber safety, fines and traffic offences. However, all legal matters can be discussed to ensure that they are dealt with quickly and effectively. Information discussed with lawyers is kept confidential and it will not be disclosed without consent. MUSIC news Music Performances – Please save the dates Blues’n Jazz – Thursday March 22nd – 9.45 to lunch – Official Opening of Diversitat Aged Support Norlane. Students are required to wear the correct uniform. Jazz Band – black school shoes, black dress pants, black socks, long sleeve black shirt and tie (boys only – their choice). Senior Concert Band – Open Night at the College on Monday March 26th. Students are required to wear the correct uniform – Boys and girls – black school shoes, black dress pants, black socks, long sleeve white shirt and College band tie – available from Mrs Stabryla ($20). Senior Concert Band Tour – August 20th to 24th – Staying at Halls Gap and performing in Ararat, Stawell and Horsham. Letters concerning the Senior Concert Band Tour have been given to members of the band. Parents are asked to please sign and return to the General Office asap. Deposits are due by Monday April 30th, 2018. - The music staff expect that all band members will participate in this tour. If your child is not participating, please let me know asap. Remember CSEF can to use to help pay for this. STUDENT ABSENCES Parents and Guardians are required to provide an explanation for their child’s absences. This can be done by: Telephone the College on 5248 1400 Send an SMS to the College on 0416 907 351 Write a note in the Student Planner or a separate note to present the next morning for your student to have their absence TRACKED. Attendance records can then be amended. In all instances the College requires the following information:     

Child’s name Home Group or Year level Date absent Reason for absence Parent/guardian signature (when written).
