Driving down energy bills

tuart Ayres MP, Member for Penrith welcomes the announcement that Penrith families will soon be able to cut their energy bills with solar and home appliance upgrades, thanks to a $128 million Energy Bill Buster program in the 2022-23 NSW Budget.

“The NSW Government is committed to helping to ease cost of living for local families by equipping them with the appliances that will help drive down their energy bills” “The Energy Bill Buster program allows eligible households to swap their annual Low Income Household rebate for a lump sum contribution to a free solar system,” Stuart Ayres said.

“Residents who are renters or who live in apartments may be eligible to swap the rebate for energy efficient appliance upgrades such as fridges, dryers and hot water systems up to $4,000.”

Around a third of NSW households are currently receiving an energy rebate to help them with their energy bills.

Eligible households can apply to get a free solar system that can save you up to $600 each year, instead of the annual $285 Low Income Household Rebate.

The Energy Bill Buster program follows the NSW Government’s recent announcement to increase the number of vouchers available under the Energy Accounts Payment Assistance scheme by 25 per cent to $400 per transaction for households struggling to pay their electricity and gas bills.

The 2022-23 Budget includes funding to initially help up to 30,000 households under the program, with further funding to be considered based on uptake. Households can find out more and register their interest at www.energysaver.nsw.gov.au/ rebate-swap

SW residents will have access to the highest quality care and pain management services at the end of their life, with palliative care and specialist health services to receive a record $743 million funding boost over the next five years.

Premier Dominic Perrottet said the 2022-23 funding boost is on top of the $300 million the NSW Government invests each year in palliative care.

“A new palliative care unit at Nepean will ensure more people will have access to dedicated end of life care,” Penrith MP Stuart Ayres said.

“It represents another enhancement to the quality health services that will be available at Nepean Hospital.”

“We’re committed to ensuring NSW has the best palliative care services and support in Australia, if not the world,” Mr Perrottet said.

“This is about providing the greatest possible comfort and dignity to people who are at the end of their life, whether that’s in hospital, at home or in the wider community, right across the state.”

Treasurer Matt Kean said the funding will deliver an additional 600 health staff across NSW to support those in their final stage of life once the program is fully rolled out.

“The funding boost will allow us to employ an extra 600 nurses, allied health professionals, doctors and support staff to care for people at their most vulnerable time, who will be of great comfort to patients and families alike,” Mr Kean said.

“This funding will allow more people to live at home and close to loved ones when they need them most. It will improve access to new treatments, world-leading pain management services and medications, and community-based services to reduce unnecessary stays in hospitals.”

Health Minister Brad Hazzard said the investment will also increase the number of short-term, highcare beds in rural, regional and metropolitan hospitals.

“We will be providing more palliative care beds for people requiring short-term hospital stays right across the state,” Mr Hazzard said.

Minister for Regional Health Bronnie Taylor said the NSW Government is placing a strong focus on caring for people in regional communities.

“As a former palliative care nurse, I know how significant this package will be for patients and their loved ones,” Mrs Taylor said.

“Everyone has the right to die with dignity, and this package will provide better access to palliative care no matter where you live.”

The package includes $650 million over five years to: • employ an extra 600 nurses, allied health professionals, doctors, and support staff • boost hospital capacity and implement bestpractice models for supportive and palliative care • improve access to pain management services for patients with life-limiting illness, to help patients and their family and carers • improve services for people with late stage chronic and degenerative conditions, and cancer • further strengthen outpatient and community health services • support consumer choice and excellence in endof-life and palliative care • strengthen virtual care, transport and equipment programs • improve partnership with non-Government organisations, primary care and aged care services.

A further $93 million will be used for capital investment, to redevelop and refurbish NSW Health facilities, including new dedicated palliative care units at Westmead Hospital and Nepean Hospital.

Supercharging the early childhood workforce and sector More than 18,000 prospective early childhood teachers and carers will be supported to enter the sector or boost their skills thanks to a $281.6 million workforce package in the 2022/23 NSW Budget.

The package includes early childhood teacher higher education scholarships of up to $25,000, VET scholarships of up to $2,000 and employer supplements for staff retention.

Premier Dominic Perrottet said NSW is leading the nation in implementing measures to address workforce supply issues and build a sustainable pipeline of early childhood educators and teachers for tomorrow.

“This package will open new doors to attract, support and retain the best early childhood workforce in NSW, to create a brighter future for families and children,” Mr Perrottet said.

Nsw sets a new standard on parental leave

T

eachers, nurses, firefighters and other public sector workers across the State will be encouraged to share childcaring responsibilities between partners under an overhaul of the NSW Government’s paid parental leave scheme.

From October, there will no longer be a distinction between a ‘primary’ or ‘secondary’ carer, meaning every mother and father in the public sector will be entitled to at least 14 weeks’ paid parental leave.

The NSW Government will also offer parents an additional 2 weeks’ ‘bonus leave’ if paid parental leave entitlements are more equally shared between partners.

Premier Dominic Perrottet said the new initiatives in the 2022-23 NSW Budget were part of the government’s ongoing commitment to supporting the needs of modern families across NSW. “While most parents across Australia are entitled to paid primary parental leave, only 12 per cent of those who take it are men,” Mr Perrottet said.

“Supporting all parents to spend more precious days with their newborn children helps them form bonds that last a lifetime.”

The NSW Government will also expand the window in which public servants can take paid

parental leave from one year to two years after birth, and extend paid parental leave to long-term or permanent foster carers.

Treasurer Matt Kean said as the largest employer in Australia, the NSW Government hopes that private companies and other governments will follow its lead.

“Children don’t see their parents as ‘primary carers’ or ‘secondary carers’ – just as mums or dads,” Mr Kean said.

“Encouraging more dads to take up parental leave is crucial to supporting all parents to be able to choose to have a career, have a family or have both.”

Minister for Women Bronnie Taylor said strong

parental leave entitlements play a major role in supporting women’s economic opportunity.

“These changes to our parental leave offerings will encourage more equal sharing of caring responsibilities right from the start of a child’s life,” Mrs Taylor said.

Minister for Employee Relations Damien Tudehope said he hopes as many parents as possible take up the opportunity to spend time with their young children.

“The NSW Government understands the needs of young families and the benefits to productivity and performance that can be unleashed by supporting employees to balance parenthood with paid work,” Mr Tudehope said.

The ‘bonus leave’ scheme is one of the first of its kind in Australia and will apply where each parent (including parents employed outside the public sector) takes at least 12 weeks’ parental leave and exhausts any paid parental leave offered by their employers.

Single parents will be entitled to the full 16 weeks of paid parental leave.

The paid parental leave reform comes following the NSW Government’s recent announcement that it will start offering workers in the public sector five days’ fertility leave, recognising the time demands of IVF and other reproductive treatments.

Affordable preschool for all nsw families Families across NSW are set to save thousands of dollars on their preschool costs thanks to more than $1.4 billion over four years in the 2022-23 NSW Budget.

Premier Dominic Perrottet said the program will ease cost of living pressures for families and ensure more children receive high quality early education, which is critical for a smooth transition to school and better educational outcomes for their future.

“Preschool is where the building blocks for lifelong success are established so it is vital that quality early childhood education is more accessible for families in NSW, no matter what their circumstances or where they live,” Mr Perrottet said.

“We’re committed to ensuring families across the state have a brighter future and less pressure on the hip pocket.”

From 1 January 2023, all NSW families will be eligible for: • up to $4,000 per year in fee relief for 3, 4 and 5-year-olds attending a community or mobile preschool • up to $2,000 per year in fee relief for 4 and

5-year-olds attending preschool in a long day care setting and • the equivalent of 5 days a fortnight of affordable preschool fee relief for all children in Department of Education preschools.

The NSW Government will also invest $64.1 million for a two-year pilot to support more 3-yearolds attending preschool in long day care services.

NSW Treasurer Matt Kean said the evidence shows clearly the positive impact quality preschool can have on a child’s life outcomes and on the economy.

“Every $1 invested in early childhood education delivers a $2 boost to the NSW economy – it is a great investment for any Treasurer,” Mr Kean said.

Minister for Education and Early Learning Sarah Mitchell said that one of the biggest impacts we can have on educational outcomes at school is to improve early childhood education.

“A significant body of research shows that children who participate in quality preschool programs have improved lifelong educational, social and economic outcomes,” Ms Mitchell said.

“That’s why I’m so delighted to be continuing

our support for community and mobile preschools.

Families using these services are not eligible for the Child Care Subsidy, so NSW’s commitment to long-term funding relief is significant and genuinely needed.

“We are also extending support to NSW families whose children attend preschool in a long day care setting, because at the end of the day what’s important is our littlest learners having access to great quality preschool programs.”

The current Start Strong Free Pre-school Program is already providing $150 million in fee relief for children enrolled in community and mobile preschools across NSW in 2022.

Paving the way for women returning to work

W

omen looking for work will be able to apply for grants of up to $5,000 to fund a new work wardrobe, technology and training to help them return to the workforce, thanks to a $32 million investment in the 2022-23 NSW Budget.

Premier Dominic Perrottet encouraged eligible women to apply for the Return to Work Program grant and tailored support from a Return to Work Coordinator.

“The program is already helping thousands of women to meet their employment and education goals - I want this program to support as many women as possible to find secure employment,” Mr Perrottet said.

“This is an opportunity to build the confidence and financial independence for women who need it most.”

Treasurer Matt Kean said women who are experiencing barriers reentering the workforce can apply for grants of up to $5,000 to help cover the cost of common financial obstacles such as work clothes or an internet connection.

“Female-dominated industries and workers were hit hard by the pandemic and it highlighted the importance of women to the long-term health of our economy,” Mr Kean said.

“Now, more than ever, we need to support women to get into, and return to, the workforce. This program helps equip women with the information, technology and financial support they need to get back to work.”

Minister for Women Bronnie Taylor said the positive results of the program demonstrated the value of this investment.

“The feedback from over 1,500 women who have completed the program was that it works because of its flexibility and tailored approach.

65 per cent of women secured employment, 73 per cent applied for or started education and training while an incredible 98.5 per cent found the program helpful,” Mrs Taylor said.

“I am proud to be part of a NSW Government that looks at unique solutions for the big issues affecting women’s workforce participation through the Women’s Economic Opportunities Review.”

The new Return to Work Toolkit is available on the NSW Government website to provide additional

employment resources and information for women. amilies in NSW will save thousands of dollars a year on childcare costs thanks to the NSW Government’s landmark investment of up to $5 billion over the next decade to expand access to high quality, affordable care.

Under the reforms, a middleincome Sydney family with one child in full-time childcare that benefits from the investment is expected to save up to $3,900 a year, while the equivalent family living in regional NSW with two children in childcare is expected to save up to $7,800.

NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet said it can be hard for families to access affordable childcare, especially in Sydney, and this funding would transform the lives of families across the state.

“We know that childcare places are scarce in some postcodes, making it difficult for parents to return to paid work when they want. Improving accessibility to childcare by investing in supply will provide practical assistance to families with young ones,” Mr Perrottet said.

“My Government is focused on building a brighter future for our state by helping people pursue their hopes and aspirations. That is what this transformational policy will do.”

NSW Treasurer Matt Kean said investment in childcare is the best way to improve women’s economic opportunity, increase female workforce participation and close the gender pay gap.

“Childcare costs impede the dreams of women across NSW because many women are only able to keep about 30 cents in each dollar they earn when they return to work,” Mr Kean said.

“Childcare shouldn’t be a postcode lottery. Improving the affordability and accessibility of childcare is once in a generation economic policy. This investment, delivered alongside the Commonwealth’s childcare reforms, is expected to see up to 95,000 women enter the workforce or take on more hours, driving down the gender workforce participation gap by up to 14 per cent within a decade.”

Minister for Women Bronnie Taylor said this investment is expected to boost childcare supply, with a focus on increasing the supply of affordable childcare right across NSW. “This once in a generation scheme will mean women no longer need to choose between work or caring for their children,” Mrs Taylor said.

“This package will help break the childcare drought by targeting areas with the least access to affordable childcare, which poses the highest disincentive to parents returning to work.”

Minister for Education and Early Learning Sarah Mitchell said early childhood education and care providers will be able to apply for funding to help deliver more accessible and affordable care.

“This is one of the most important

things we can do to give children the best start in life, helping young children develop their social skills and open up lifelong opportunities from their earliest years,” Ms Mitchell said.

“We will work with the sector on the detailed design of the fund to ensure it delivers the best outcomes for children, families and providers.”

The NSW Government’s investment will be made through the Affordable and Accessible Childcare and Economic Participation Fund, which will be established in this year’s budget. The Fund will: • Provide grants to childcare providers to expand infrastructure and establish new centres, • Target areas with limited access to childcare centres or where a shortage of childcare places poses the highest disincentive to parents returning to work, • Complement the Commonwealth’s demand-side childcare policy framework through flexible supply side funding, • Invest $775 million over the next four years, and • Trial new service models to meet the needs of modern families.

amily and friends of Garry and Louise Rumble gathered at Pioneer Park, Alcoomie Avenue, South Penrith on Tuesday 14th March, for the unveiling of a memorial plaque in his honour.

Garry (Garth) Lindsay Rumble OAM was a hugely influential identity in Penrith during his life, working as a Councillor from 20042008, voluntary work with Penrith Apex Club (including President for 8 years and awarded Life Membership), Penrith Rotary Club and was the Founding President of Nepean Rotary Club.

Garry established the Nepean Riverlands Probus and Glenmore Park Probus Clubs and was awarded Life Membership of Nepean Riverlands.

He was awarded the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) on 26th January 2009 for service to the community of Penrith and Local Government.

Penrith City Mayor Tricia Hitchen was on hand to speak of Garry’s service to the wider Penrith community and unveiled the plaque along with Garry’s wife Louise.

Daughter Jodie and son Chris spoke of Garry’s loving involvement in

Pyometras can become life threatening

P

yometra is a serious infection of the uterus that results in the accumulation of pus within the cavity of the uterus. It is generally seen in older female cats and dogs who have not been desexed.

Unfortunately, many of our pets have not been desexed during the previous year’s COVID lockdown periods and we have seen an increased number of female dogs presenting with this condition that often requires emergency surgery.

Pyometras can become life threatening especially if the uterus ruptures inside the body. Untreated pyometra can cause dehydration, kidney failure and eventual death from infection and toxin accumulation.

What causes a pyometra? Each time a dog has a season (generally twice a year), she undergoes hormonal changes. These changes affect the uterus and cervix and make infection more likely. Infection is usually caused by a very common organism called E. Coli. The disease usually becomes apparent several weeks or

months following heat.

What are the signs of pyometra?

Pyometra is obviously only seen in females and can occur at any age but more commonly occurs in dogs over the age of 6. Early signs can be subtle and could just include increased licking around the back

end or just being a bit tired and not as hungry as usual. In the advanced stages you may notice that she drinks lots of water and sometimes you may even find a reddish-brown discharge coming from the back end. Some dogs will have a distended abdomen and become very depressed and tired.

How is pyometra diagnosed? A good history is generally suggestive of pyometra but x-rays/ultrasound and blood tests are generally needed to confirm the diagnosis and assess how sick the dog is. Once the diagnosis has been confirmed, the best treatment option is surgical removal of the ovaries and uterus as soon as possible. Some animals are too sick for an anaesthetic and need to be stabilised prior to surgery.

Can it be prevented? Yes! The only way to prevent this condition is by having your dog desexed. If you are not intending to breed your dog, then she should be desexed at any time from 6 months of age. Not only does desexing prevent pyometra and cancers of the reproductive tract, but if you get your female dog desexed before her first season then this reduces the chance of breast cancer developing later in life by 90 percent.

Horse Stealing at Ropes Creek

British Olympian who didn’t experience summer for nearly four decades has joined Australia’s first indoor snow resort and alpine facility management team in one of the hottest places on Earth.

Former Australian national winter sports team coach Stephen Edwards is the high-performance snowsports coach and program director at the soon-to-be-built Winter Sports World (WSW) in Penrith, NSW. A magnet for elite snow and ice athletes, WSW will be a training field for nine Olympic sports – alpine skiing, freestyle skiing, snow board, figure skating, ice hockey, speed skating, curling with the possibility of catering for cross country and biathlon.

Site developer Peter Magnisalis said: ``I don’t think it’s a big stretch of the imagination to think that Winter Sports World will become one of the top 10 high performance training centres in the world.

“Stephen’s involvement adds international credibility and attention to the development as an elite competition and participation sporting venue. We are very fortunate to have him on board.’’

Magnisalis began talks four years ago with Edwards, who represented Britain in alpine skiing at the 1992 Winter Olympic Games.

Edwards, who lives in Australia but works around the world, was integral in the setup and ongoing operation programs of the UK’s first snow centre (Snowdome) in Tamworth in the mid-1990s.

He has been involved in snow sport coaching for more than 30 years, including World Cup coach for Australia and Denmark, national team coach for England, program director for European Development & Excellence Program and head coach for Perisher Winter Sports Club and Mt Buller Race Club.

Edwards is a former Snow Sports Australia national team selector,

Snowsports England tutor and athletes he has trained have had success at the highest level including world cups, world championships, Olympic Games, Youth Olympic Games, international children’s races and national champions in alpine skiing and snowboard.

“I thought: ‘Why hasn’t anyone done this in Australia before?’,” he said. “It’s a perfect location and Australians love snow.”

Located just 9km from Australia’s newest international airport at Badgerys Creek, Winter Sports World will be a linchpin of Penrith’s sporting venue offering which already includes Sydney International Regatta Centre and Penrith Whitewater Stadium, a major football stadium, and competitive cricket, netball, and shooting and archery grounds.

Adventure attractions iFly indoor skydiving, Cables Wake Park on the neighbouring Penrith Panthers site, numerous golf courses, rowing on the Nepean River and more complete the city’s claim to being the “Adventure capital of NSW’’.

Winter Sports World will remove the disadvantage of Australian snow and ice athletes currently having to decamp for months every year to expensive overseas training facilities away from their support networks.

“Athletes from nearly every country in the world train in indoor centres,’’

Edwards said. “It guarantees their time on the snow so they can focus on technique without variables like weather and piste conditions.’’

However, the development will be accessible and affordable to all, with learn-to-ski, snowboard classes, school and community group excursions and casual visits by locals encouraged.

While Australia has more than 1 million regular snowsport enthusiasts visiting the NSW resorts, of which about 700,000 are in Sydney, another 4.5 million people do not ski because they cannot access the snow.

“It’s just too hard for them to go there or too expensive so they haven’t been introduced to it,’’ Mr Magnisalis said.

Winter Sports World will accept the twice yearly $100 Active Kids government vouchers available to every school-age child in NSW. The venue will help increase yearround participation in snow and ice sports and become a pathway for its governing bodies to establish programs.

Growing up in the UK with access to a dry ski slope only, skiing was challenging for Edwards, who took up the sport at age eight.

“If I was going to make it to top level competition I needed to move to the snow,’’ he said.

“At 16, I had to make a huge lifechanging decision to follow my

dreams and moved to the French alps on my own.

“I didn’t experience another summer without snow until Covid took hold on the world in 2020.’’

Winter Sports World Located at Penrith at the foot of the Blue Mountains in NSW, Winter Sports World will be Australia’s first indoor snow resort and alpine facility.

Using real snow, the $300 million development will include: • A 300m advanced open run and a dedicated learn-to-ski run • Snow play with various activities for people of all ages from children through to adults • Ice activities such as an ice rink and ice climbing • 4.5-star 162-room hotel with function & conference facilities • Restaurant and cafes with snow views Winter Sports World is also expected to generate 900 new ongoing tourism jobs after construction and inject $80 million a year into the local economy with 250,000 visitors annually.

Currently a 2.35ha horse paddock located within the vibrant Riverlink Tourism Precinct at Penrith in Western Sydney, the site will also include a Winter Wonderland snow play area, conference and function rooms.

The carbon-neutral design of the development by renowned ecofriendly architecture practice Environa Studio will set new environmental building benchmarks with features such as the most advanced technology for capturing and reuse of free heat, roof solar system for electrical energy needs, insulation systems, non-toxic cooling and roof water harvesting for snow making.

A state significant development application for Winter Sports World is expected to be lodged with NSW Department of Planning Industry and Environment by mid-year.

Construction will hopefully commence next year, with Winter Sports World expected to open in 2025.

J

essica Fox has celebrated a birthday gold medal in the Women’s K1 at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup in Prague on Saturday 11th June.

Fox, who turned 28 on Saturday, said it was nice to return to the top of the K1 podium after winning bronze at last year’s Tokyo Olympics, and missing the Final at the 2021 World Championships.

“It was challenging with the world championships, and with the Olympics winning bronze, but I won the overall world cup title in the kayak, so I knew it was there, I just had to pull it out in those runs,” Fox said.

“To do that today was awesome, I felt really good and really happy with how I delivered after that early mistake.

“I told myself to have a good start, be safe, and straight away I smash gate two. From there I just had to try and lift and push, and I made a little

mistake in the middle, but I had an excellent bottom and I really gave it everything at the finish line. And I’m still stuffed.”

Fox has now won 36 world cup gold medals in her career.

It was slim pickings for the Australians over the rest of the program, although Noemie Fox and Timothy Anderson qualified for the Final of the Women’s and Men’s Extreme Slalom respectively – both finishing just out of the medals in fourth place.

lue Mountains sailor Kathy Veel has brought locally-owned racing yacht ‘It Happens’ back into the winner’s circle for the first time this year, taking out Race 2 of the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA) Winter Women’s Series on Sunday on Sydney Harbour.

Strong winds worked in favour of

the yacht and has put the Penrith crew back in reach of this year’s title, in spite of a disappointing 7th place finish in Race 1 on 24th April.

‘It Happens’ now sits in 2nd place on the competition ladder, just 4 points behind leader ‘SOLyMar’, which has recorded 2 second place finishes.

The final race of the Winter Women’s Series will be for the Chris Lee Trophy on 17th July.

Playoffs beckon in Master Pennant Competition

unday 12th June featured Round 5 of the 2022 Golf NSW Master Pennant competition and once again, it was a mixed bag of results for clubs from western Sydney.

In Division 1, Stonecutters Ridge GC drew 4-4 with Kogarah to keep their title aspirations alive but will need to win at home against the same opponent this Sunday, by a huge margin, to have a chance at winning the Section title and moving on to the playoffs.

Dunheved GC drew 4-4 with Monash to remain in 3rd spot in Section 3 and should hold off Lynwood this Sunday to avoid finishing at the bottom of the Section.

Penrith GC lost 4.5-3.5 to Asquith and will finish in the middle of the field in Section 2, whilst Twin Creeks CGC lost 5.5-2.5 to Liverpool to finish at the bottom of Section 2 and will enter the Relegation playoffs.

Glenmore Heritage Valley GC are in second spot in Division 2, Section 1 but need to not only grab a big win against Beverly Park on Sunday, but hope Strathfield can pull off a miracle and grab a win over front-runners Macquarie Links.

With Springwood already consolidated as the winner of Division 3, Section 4, Leonay GC is now the only other possibility of securing a title in Section 3. Leonay fell 4.5-3.5 to Bankstown on Sunday, at Bankstown,

Grace Lee wins Macarthur Junior Masters

race Lee (Glenmore Park / Concord GC) has taken out the Girls Division of the 2022 Jack Newton Junior Golf (JNJG) Foundation Macarthur Junior Masters, defeating Ann Jang (Toukley GC) in a playoff.

Both girls had finished the two-day tournament locked together on 144, with Grace shooting 74 at Camden and 70 at Campbelltown and Ann shooting 75 at Camden and 69 at Campbelltown.

Sent out again to break the deadlock, Grace parred the first hole to claim outright victory and the Girls title, in addition to winning the Girls 16/17 Years Age group by a clear 10 shots.

11-year old Camilla Kim (Lynwood CC) won the 12/13 Years Girls Age group by a staggering 15 shots from her closest rival and also finished 11th overall in the tournament.

Other placings in the Girls division were Michelle Yang (Stonecutters Ridge) tied 9th overall and tied 5th in 14/15 Year Age group, Annoushka

Maikap (Stonecutters Ridge) tied 13th overall and tied 8th in the 14/15 Years Age group.

NSW hottest young male golfer Jeffrey Guan (The Australian GC) shot a blistering 7-under par 63 on Sunday to move from 5th place overnight to a clear 2-shot winner of the Boys division.

Coby Carruthers (Jordan Springs / Concord GC) finished in a tie for 8th overall and tied 6th in the 16/17 Years Age group, Kade Webber (Stonecutters Ridge) finished tied 17th overall and tied 12th in the 16/17 Years Age group, Darcy Mackay (Stonecutters Ridge) tied 22nd overall and tied 7th in the 14/15 Years Age group, Ryan Cadle (Stonecutters Ridge) and Blake Hodges (Dunheved / New South Wales GC) both tied 29th overall and tied 18th in the 16/17 Years Age group.

Western Sydney also had some younger, promising juniors playing in the 11 Years & Under age groups, with Evelyn Oram (Richmond) in the Girls division and Hunter McMillan (Twin Creeks) and Harrison Oram (Richmond) in the Boys division.

Panthers trio named in Kiwis squad

Panthers duo Soni Luke and Isaiya Katoa have been named in the 25-man Tonga squad to face New Zealand Kiwis at Mt Smart Stadium on Saturday 25 June.

Soni Luke has been named to make his international debut off the bench while SG Ball premiership winning halfback Katoa is listed in the reserves.

Earlier today Panthers trio James Fisher-Harris, Scott Sorensen and Moses Leota were named in the Kiwis 25-man squad to face Tonga.

Panthers forwards Moses Leota and Scott Sorensen have been named in the New Zealand squad, alongside club teammate James Fisher-Harris, for the Kiwis’ Test match against Tonga at Mt Smart Stadium on Saturday 25 June.

Born in Auckland, Leota has selected to represent New Zealand in the mid-year Test, making himself solely eligible for the Kiwis in the 2022 Rugby League World.

The 26-year-old forward, who made his international debut for Samoa in 2019, has been rewarded with selection in the New Zealand side following an impressive start

to the season for the Panthers.

29-year-old premiership winner Sorensen is also inline to make his Kiwis debut in the historic test.

Meanwhile, Kiwis enforcer FisherHarris will run out for his seventh Test match for New Zealand, to go with his two appearances for the Maori All Stars.

Panthers youngster Jack Cole selected in NSW U/19s squad Panthers Jersey Flegg player Jack Cole has been named in the New South Wales U/19s squad for the upcoming State of Origin match to be played at Leichhardt Oval on Thursday 23 June.

The talented Panthers playmaker has been named alongside the likes of South Sydney forward Davvy Moale and Canberra lock Trey Mooney.

The match will be broadcast on the Nine Network and Fox Sports, while each under-19s team will also be permitted to select two NRL or

NRLW contracted “marquee” under-20s players for the match.

Supporters can register for GA free admission or purchase grandstand seating via nrl.com/ tickets while food and drink vouchers will also be available.

The U/19s match will kick off the 2022 Representative Round weekend with Women’s State of Origin to follow on Friday, international Test matches on Saturday before Men’s State of Origin on Sunday completes the round.
