Over the years Terry’s roles just to name a few have included: being the Penrith PCYC Music

teacher since 1978, various committee roles, worked on club renovations, assisted with fundraising days, driver of the PCYC bus to take local RSL pensioners on outings, assisting with cooking and catering for Housie and other activities.

James Frecklington, PCYC Penrith Club manager said Terry has a heart of gold and has empowered so many youth here at PCYC Penrith and the community through his stories and music.

Terry is an amazing man, and we are fortunate to have him volunteering at our facility since 1978.

I couldn’t think of a better person to suit this award.

“The Community Service Award is a way for the NSW Government to acknowledge inspirational locals for their achievements and selfless service across our community,” added Stuart Ayres.

he NSW Government has continued its crusade against cowards caught committing acts of cruelty to animals by introducing Australia’s toughest suite of animal cruelty penalties, Minister for Agriculture Adam Marshall announced today.

Mr Marshall delivered the second read of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Amendment Bill 2021 today in State Parliament, which will dramatically increase penalties for animal welfare offences in NSW and the range of tools available to courts to better and more effectively deal with offenders.

“Today we take the next step in our crusade by boosting protections for animals across the State and powering forward with our introduction of Australia’s toughest suite of penalties for animal cruelty offences,” Mr Marshall said.

“These laws send a clear message to those who commit abhorrent acts on animals; if you do the wrong thing, you will face severe consequences.

“The new set of measures dramatically increases both financial penalties and gaol time and ensures that the courts can prevent people found guilty of the worst animal cruelty offences from owning, caring

for or breeding animals in NSW. “Our enforcement agencies do a great job and this Bill will put in place

the penalty regime NSW needs to effectively punish those who engage in one of the lowest acts imaginable.

“This Bill doesn’t create any new offences but makes sure penalties reflect the seriousness of animal welfare offences and to act as a clear deterrent to those grubs considering abusing animals.”

Mr Marshall said these changes received strong support through community consultation in 2020 and therefore he hoped the Bill would receive the same support in Parliament.

“The NSW Government has made it clear it abhors cruelty to animals and will not tolerate it,” Mr Marshall said.

The proposed increases would introduce the following penalties: • Failure to provide food and shelter: increase from $5,500 to $16,500 for individuals, per offence, with corporate penalties increasing from $27,500 to $82,500; • Cruelty: increase from $5,500 and/or 6 months’ imprisonment per offence, to $44,000 and/or 12 months’ imprisonment for individuals. The corporate penalty will increase from $27,500 to $220,000; and • Aggravated cruelty: the maximum penalty per offence will increase from $22,000 to $110,000 for an individual and from $110,000 to $550,000 for a corporation.

T

he electorate of Mulgoa has secured $300,000 in funding for a total of nine projects through the NSW Government’s 2020 Community Building Partnership Program.

Member for Mulgoa, Tanya Davies said the State Government funds will deliver much-needed improvements to local facilities including Luddenham Hall, Nepean Food Services, sporting clubs and schools.

“This is fantastic news for the Mulgoa electorate,” Mrs Davies said.

“This grassroots funding will directly help create a more vibrant and inclusive local community with positive social, environmental and recreational outcomes.”

“I congratulate all the organisations that were successful in their application and look forward to seeing how these projects make a real difference for the community.”

The full list of successful projects in the Mulgoa electorate for 2020 are: • Luddenham Progress Association who received $82,500 towards to build a new toilet block attached to the existing Luddenham Progress Hall.

• St Clair and District Men’s Shed who received $4,000 to install a dust extraction unit.

• Thomas Hassall Anglican College that were provided $85,000 towards

an athletics precinct complete with running track, long jump pit, shot put area and discus cage. They also received a further $7,338 for the installation of 10 water refill stations to replace the old bubblers.

• Nepean Food Services received $14,430 for a new carport and a variety

of awnings to enhance the work environment for staff and visitors.

• Holy Spirit Primary School were awarded $28,667 that will provide an upgraded sound system and the installation of two air conditioning units.

• St Clair Junior Rugby League

Club received $63,000 to install seating around the playing fields and the relocation of the current fencing to allow better ambulance access and security.

• Sunnyfield Intellectual Disability Services and Support have received $5,065 to repaint their facility.

tuart Ayres MP, Member for Penrith welcomes the announcement that preschools and day care centres across the state will be able to improve their services, with more than $11 million through the NSW Government’s Quality Learning Environments (QLE) grants The QLE grants provide notfor-profit community and mobile preschools and not-for-profit long day care services across the State with funding of up to $15,000 to purchase resources and activities which improve physical or educational learning environments.

Stuart Ayres said the QLE grants are greatly welcomed in the community, especially after a tough year with drought, fire and COVID-19 for early childhood services.

The grants will fund improvements to physical spaces by enhancing the quality of the grounds and buildings of services. They can also be used to provide specialised educational programs for children to address identified educational needs.

Services across Penrith who have been successful in securing grants include: • Glenbrook Pre School • Blue Emu Children’s Centre

Thousands of nursing and midwifery graduates join public hospitals

M

ore than 2500 graduate nurses and midwives will start work at about 130 public hospitals and health services from this week, a quarter in rural and regional areas.

Health Minister Brad Hazzard extended a warm welcome to the new nursing and midwifery recruits as they embark on their career with NSW Health.

“These enthusiastic nursing and midwifery graduates join NSW Health at an historic moment, in the middle of an unprecedented pandemic,” Mr Hazzard said.

“They will have a unique opportunity to play a vital role in in our extraordinary healthcare system as it continues to battle against the threat of COVID-19.

“I am also delighted that more than a quarter of these graduates will work in rural and regional hospitals across the State and wish all our new starters the very best with their careers.”

More than 54,000 nurses and midwives currently work in the NSW public health system, an increase of 24.7 per cent since 2011.

Mr Hazzard said the NSW Government has invested in a record total 8,300 frontline health staff over four years, including an additional 5,000 nurses and midwives, including

mental health and palliative care nurses.

The Chief Nursing & Midwifery Officer, NSW Health, Jacqui Cross, thanked the new graduates.

“As you embark on this wonderfully

› Police seek assistance

Aboriginal artists sought for Nepean Cancer Care Centre artwork

Police are appealing for public assistance following a robbery where a man was assaulted in Penrith last year.

About 9.20pm on Saturday 12 September 2020, four unknown males approached a 29-yearold man in the toilet area of a restaurant on the corner of Riley Street and Jane Street, Penrith.

The man was assaulted before some of his property was stolen, including a gold chain. He suffered minor injuries to his face and body.

Officers attached to Nepean Police Area Command attended and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police are urging anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident to contact Penrith Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 00.

One artist will be selected to produce an individual art piece for use within the Centre to help create a more positive, welcoming and culturally appropriate environment for patients, carers and visitors.

Application process When preparing their application artists are asked to provide their current contact details and the following information: • A written statement outlining your art practice to date and interest in the Nepean Cancer Care Centre project (max 300 words).

• A digital copy of an artwork that will represent a person’s cancer journey.

• A paragraph describing the story behind the artwork.

The selected artist will be responsible for covering all costs associated with supplying their artwork.

An artist fee of $1000 will be offered to the selected artist for supply of the final artwork.

Applicants are welcome to arrange a visit to the Centre to assist in the application process.

tuart Ayres MP, Member for Penrith announced that the contract to design and build the new 750 additional car parking spaces for public transport customers at Emu Plains Station has been awarded to Stephen Edwards Constructions Pty Ltd. The Emu Plains Commuter Car Park project is a joint initiative of the Federal and State Governments to provide additional commuter parking and ease congestion on roads.

“The Commuter Car Park Program is designed to make it easier for customers who need to drive part of their journey to access public transport hubs,” Stuart Ayres said.

“Stephen Edwards Constructions has been awarded the contract to deliver the new car park on behalf of Transport for NSW. Detailed design work has commenced and early works are due to start in the coming months,” Stuart Ayres said.

“This project will not only provide more access to parking for the community but employ around 50 people in a range of fields including

engineering, construction and administration roles.”

New and upgraded fire trucks on track to be deployed across nsw More than 200 new and upgraded fire trucks and vehicles will be deployed to fire brigades across the State by July 2021, as part of the NSW Government’s commitment to our frontline firefighters.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian said more than 340 fire trucks and vehicles are being built and upgraded for the NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) and Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) following the devastating 2019/20 bushfires.

“This program is part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring our emergency services personnel and volunteers have the best possible vehicles and equipment when responding to emergencies across the State,” Ms Berejiklian said.

“The RFS is working with 19 local businesses to build and upgrade vehicles, creating new jobs across the State.”

Minister for Police and Emergency Services David Elliott said the unprecedented nature of the 2019/20 fire season resulted in a considerable

number of the firefighting fleet suffering damage or total loss.

“Last year the NSW Government announced an additional $45 million investment to enhance our firefighting capability. This funding included $34.4 million to almost double the annual new appliance build, which will help protect life, property and support our emergency management personnel,” Mr Elliott said.

“As part of the NSW Government’s RFS fleet enhancement and refurbishment program 23 new and refurbished trucks have already been deployed to some of the most at risk areas across the state.”

NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) Commissioner Rob Rogers AFSM said the investment in the fleet program would ensure brigades are equipped to best protect their communities.

“Ensuring our members have the most modern equipment and resources to protect local

communities has been, and will remain, a key priority,” Commissioner Rogers said.

“This program will enable brigades to continue their outstanding work and the updates and new technology will ensure our firefighters are safe while undertaking their important roles.”

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) received an additional $5.7 million for 10 new tankers to bolster their bush firefighting fleet.

FRNSW Commissioner Paul Baxter said the new equipment would help firefighters where it was needed most – on the frontlines.

“We stand with our NSW RFS colleagues in welcoming this new equipment so that our firefighters are as prepared as they can be to meet the constant threats posed by bushfires, other fires and emergencies across NSW,” Commissioner Baxter said.

“We remain prepared for anything, anywhere, anytime in protecting the NSW community and this new equipment will add to our preparedness.”

hroughout March, PETstock Penrith will support PETstock Assist’s inaugural National Pet Adoption Month initiative to find even more pets homes, educate the masses and celebrate the entire rescue community.

For the past six years, PETstock Assist has been changing the lives of rescue pets and humans having rehomed more than 12,000 pets – in just six days! – providing much needed education, changing perceptions and behaviour on pet adoption in Australia.

Australian sporting superstars and animal welfare advocates, Sharni Layton and Peter Siddle, have banded together to team up with PETstock Assist to support the month-long initiative and educate Australians on the benefits of pet adoption.

Sharni and Peter are no strangers to rescuing animals, each being proud adoptive pet parents to three cats and five dogs collectively – all who have

changed their lives for the better.

“Having the opportunity to give our five rescue dogs, quirks and all, a second chance at a loving home has been such a rewarding experience,” says Peter.

“We were fortunate enough to meet our perfect match on five separate occasions. I encourage all wouldbe pet owners looking for a pet to consider adoption and keep an open mind.”

rescue pets. To reconsider any biases, dismiss unfair stereotypes and make considered, sustainable choices on what pet is truly the best fit for their lifestyle.

PETstock Assist Charity and Events Lead, Jessica Curtis, wants everyone, not just adoptive parents, to think differently about what they can do to help break the cycle of pet homelessness.

one night, in my attractive onesie. Seriously girls, if you want to give the vibes of not tonight baby, the onesies with the double press studs and reinforced velcro is the way to say, “Hell no!”

I look so attractive in my onesie that Greenpeace were banging on the door screaming “Quick, throw water over the beached whale and uncover the blow hole we may be able to save it!”

My onesie is a glow in the dark one, which means I have to wear sunnies to bed, just to sleep. The colours are a cross between looking like someone spewed on me and Walt Disney on Steroids.

Wanna freak the cat out? Turn out the lights and run towards it. It thinks it is on illicit drugs (But don’t tell the RSPCA!) Anyway, I was sitting on the lounge having a few well-earned bevvies just to make sure my kidneys and liver are getting the workout they deserve, and on comes Gilligan’s Island.

Remember that show from about 100 years ago?

Now, I am no brainchild or brain surgeon-doctor thingy ma jig, BUT let’s get the logistics correct. Here’s a deserted island and a gifted Professor that has built everything from the kitchen sink; 5-star luxury cabins with a spa bath, double beds, to a restaurant, but he could not build a crappy raft and get them off the island? And one more thing of total importance, how the hell did Ginger keep her make-up so perfect? I have camped on an island for one night and the next morning looked like a rat slept in my hair and my eyes have Alice Copper eyeliner.

So, this led me to start thinking about missing things, which then led me to think about the missing plane from many years ago, that just disappeared. Poof gone, yep that plane, where the hell is it? People and a plane, gone, zero, zip, zilch, goneski.

I have read more theories than an Agatha Christie novel, and every expert in the field saying that aliens may have taken it, but where is it?

Like, how the hell do you lose an entire big mother of a plane? I mean, I lose my car keys all the time, and my gym shoes, sunnies, handbag and the list go on, BUT I can honestly say that I have not lost a plane. (Well not that I know of anyway).

We live in a world of technology, of basically microchipping ants and cloning sheep. A world of heated toilet seats that vibrate on voice command with relaxation music and automatic toilet paper (3 ply) wipers, but we cannot track a plane? GPS Satellite Navigational tracking thingies that can show the location of a dog, car, ya mother-in-law (if you want to track her of course) google earth on homes, streets, you name it we can track it, except a plane.

So, I am guessing that you are now asking, what the hell has all this deluded crap I am waffling got to do with a column that is supposed to be about security things, advice, tips and anything else of interest in regard to security. But alas my avid readers and worshipers, it is there, but you just

can’t see it. Like the plane, it’s there, but not there…

So basically, what I am trying to say without the hieroglyphics, is that technology is there for you to better yourself, your life, lifestyle, your world or anything you would like to plug in.

Like security on your home or business, it’s the same deal, technology such as alarms, cameras, doorbells, lighting (yes lighting) better enhances the security on your beloved prize possessions.

Check it out, the world is your oyster as they say.

If we can track a dog on McWilliam Street in the bush somewhere through a halfwit collar, why can’t we track and locate a plane somewhere in the blue sea out in never never land?

So, on ending this, I will state that no cats were injured in the making (maybe slightly hallucinating, but not injured). And as a handy security hint, unplug the tracking device if you want to lose the Mother-in -law. Just saying!

Why is it so hard to get an appointment with a Veterinarian right now?

T

he continuing COVID crisis has taxed the veterinary industry in a way we have never seen before. In a short amount of time, the pandemic created the perfect storm of too many animals needing help and not enough people to help them.

New pets: When the COVID crisis sent households into lockdown, many people began to work from home, children were home schooled and families were spending much more time together. Pounds, shelters and rescue organisations were re-homing more pets than ever. After all, with everyone home, what better time to adopt a new family member when you had extra time for training and socialisation. For others, isolation created a lonely void. When you can’t see friends and family, animals are desperately needed companions for mental health and well-being.

Busy, busy, busy: An increase in pet numbers meant an increase in veterinary appointments. Routine vaccinations and health checks are still required but an increased number of emergency situations have added to the stress upon vet clinics. Dogs are

being walked more which had led to more injuries, including an increased number of dog attacks, snake bites and tick cases. Other veterinary clinics in the area are also at capacity and we have had more enquiries from clients whose regular vet cannot see them.

At Greencross Vets Coreen Avenue, we responded to the influx of animals by creating urgent care appointments, cancellation call back appointments and a waiting list for routine procedures. We can refer patients to our sister clinics at Marsden Park, Winmalee and the Animal Referral Hospital at Homebush. Greencross has launched Webvet for tele medicine consultations. We understand that this is not ideal and hope that this will be

temporary.

Staffing shortage: While other industries are laying people off, the veterinary industry is experiencing a staffing shortage. It has been well documented that the industry has been experiencing a shortage of Veterinarians for several years. It takes six years to train a veterinarian and two years to train a certified veterinary nurse. We have been lucky enough to add a further two veterinarians and three nurses to our staff. We have developed a new team of consulting nurses that liaise with the vets, manage our schedule and triage our waiting lists.

It is important to consider the role of our veterinary receptionists during

this crisis. It is not easy to tell a pet parent that they will be placed on a cancellation list or suggest they return to their regular vet. This goes against everything they have learnt about gold standard customer care and it can take a huge emotional toll on the entire team. We applaud pet parents for being the voice of their pet but we support our veterinary team when they have to say “no, not today” if they feel that squeezing in another appointment will negatively impact other clients and patient quality of care on days we have reached capacity. It’s a struggle every day. COVID has pushed the veterinary industry to its limits.

Adapting: In the short term, we will do the best we can with what we have. It may mean the continuation of waiting lists for non-urgent procedures and tele medicine consultations to assist clients needing peace of mind. For the long term we will plan, restructure our team and schedule in an effort to provide the best care possible for our patients and their parents.

We thank our clients for their support and understanding during these challenging and ever-changing times.

Valentine’s Day Shower your honey with love

alentine’s Day is fast approaching - the most romantic day on the calendar.

Many lovers will shower each other with gifts, hopefuls will choose the day to declare love to an often-unaware conquest and others will agree to tie the knot.

I can’t speak for same-sex relationships nor the gents in a hetero relationship, but I’m going to bare all and make a declaration on behalf of my breed and say this day is one for the ladies!

Valentine’s Day represents a day of hope when there’s someone out there we fantasise will fall madly in love with us.

It is the day of judgement for those fellas who’ve just started dating us. And for those in long-term relationships and happy marriages, it can be the day of reassurance that we still feel loved and adored.

In troubled relationships, it is the day of reckoning.

But for the ladies who have no current love interest, it can be Single Person Awareness Day. (SPAD) If you’re in the loved-up category, it’s a good idea to be mindful of the feelings of those friends in the SPAD phase. They probably don’t want to hear all about the perfect roses, perfect chocolates and perfect hand-written poems you received from your perfect boyfriend... 27 times.

They’ll get it the first time you say it.

And, I have some tips for the lads, too. If you want a lady to know how you feel about her, take the punt and aim cupid’s arrow in her direction - send her

some flowers! The worst that can happen is you’ll be a few bucks out of pocket, and if the same spark isn’t felt by her, at least she’ll always refer to you as “that sweet guy.”

If you’re in a new relationship and wondering if it is too soon, I have one point to make. It is NEVER too soon.

Married guys who think it is all commercial BS get off the platform on this one - steal some flowers out of the nearest garden and present them to her.

Blokes who’ve not been the greatest partner they could have been - shell out a few bucks, get a bouquet

and write some nice words in a card. A bit of sly cash and ten minutes worth of effort could reverse a multitude of sins in one hit. Do it.

And even though I think Valentine’s Day is a special day on many a female’s calendar, there’s definitely some guys out there who rate it too.

So girls, if you’re dating a SNAG, married to a romantic or not been the best partner you could have been yourself, shower your honey with love and show them what they mean to you. Happy Valentines Day! (Hopefully my husband reads this, ps I love red roses).

T

he Blacktown Red Belly Wa r r i o r s (BRBW) hosted the inaugural Women’s Aboriginal Rugby League Knockout on Saturday 6th February at the Kingsway, at St Marys.

Under 16 Girls, Under 15 Boys and Under 17 Boys teams were also invited to compete on the day, attracting entries from the Redfern All Blacks, Mount Druitt United, Newcastle Hawks, Yuin Fit (South Coast), Dunghutti Young Bloods (Kempsey) and from the hosts BRBW. After a full day of games, the Grand Finalists in each division were: U15 Boys: Mount Druitt United defeated BRBW 30-0; U16 Girls: BRBW defeated Newcastle Hawks 24-0; U17 Boys: BRBW defeated Newcastle Falcons 38-8; Women: Redfern All

Blacks defeated Newcastle Hawks 30-0.

BRBW released the following statement regarding the day - “From all of us at BRBW we’d like to thank you all for supporting us with our vision and for being part of our Inaugural BRBW Women’s Knockout in 2021.

“In particular, thank you to the clubs, their coaching and management staff and to the players and their families (especially those who travelled). We sincerely appreciate your patience with the late changes to scheduling on the day due to some teams being unable to make it at the last minute.

“We are so proud to have hosted a knockout in Western Sydney that was strong in culture, community and showcased rugby league talent.

We appreciate all who helped make it happen. We hope to see you all there next year for even bigger and better things!”

T

he Penrith Regatta Centre hosted the 2021 NSW Rowing Championships from 7th-9th February.

The event attracted 897 entries, 1,228 competitors (2,201 seats), 87 events (comprising 184 separate races) in craft / categories including Single Sculls, Double Sculls, Pairs, Quad Sculls, Fours and Eights.

Age categories ranged from Under 16’s through to Under 23’s, School Boys and Girls, Elite Men and Women and Para athletes.

Competition began in sunny conditions at 9.30am on Friday, then 8am on Saturday under persistent yet intermittent rain conditions, followed by a glorious Summer day of sunshine from the opening race at 7.30am on Sunday.

Four new signings for season 2021

 Panthers 4 new signings for season 2021. Eisenhuth, Sorensen, Salmon and Jennings

W

ith just over a month until the 2021 NRL season kicks off (I know, how good!) it’s time to peruse the Panther’s playing roster and look at the comings and goings and how they’ll affect the club.

New Faces: Matt Eisenhuth from the Tigers A tall rangy back rower who could just as easily fill in at front row as well. Eisenhuth is a real good signing for the Panthers. A work horse forward who has a great off load and an enormous engine. I rate his signing right up there with Kurt Capewell’s last year. Both of their signings have been an unexpected pleasure.

Robert Jennings from the Tigers A Panthers junior, Robert is the youngest of the Jennings trio with George and Michael being his older brothers. A real good outside back, his first grade experience will be vital now that the “Sauce” Josh Mansour has sadly vacated the premises.

Jaeman Salmon from the Eels Jaeman is a big body who has lots of ability and can play fiveeighth, centre, or lock. He burst onto the scene a couple of seasons back and looked to be the Eels answer to their number 6 problems until Dylan Brown appeared. Will provide a tremendous amount of versatility and utility value for the Panthers.

Scott Sorensen from the Sharks A late last year signing, Sorensen played 14 games last year as his team finished 8th. A hard working back rower who will add depth to the Panthers as well as experience.

Losses: Josh Mansour to Souths The “Sauce” was told he was no longer wanted at the foot of the mountains after their grand final loss to the Storm last year. A fan favourite throughout his career his presence will be lost.

Jack Hetherington to the Bulldogs Hetherington came of age last year when he was placed on loan to the NZ Warriors, becoming one of their standout players. Yeah sure, Jack has a reputation as a ‘hot headed’ player, but he seems to have curbed the excessive aggression to be a real good pick up for Trent Barrett and his Dogs.

James Tamou to the Tigers Big “Jimmy” was inspiring for the Panthers last season on their record breaking run as captain and turned back the clock in doing so. His leadership will be missed.

Caleb Aekins to the Raiders An enterprising fullback who isn’t the biggest player going around but is a live-wire rugby league player who could be a find for the Raiders.

Zane Tetavano to Leeds in the English Super League Tetavano was outstanding for Ivan’s boys last year. Arriving from the Roosters he added instant starch to the Panthers forward pack, and made a difference every time he took the field.

Every season players come and go, this season is no different. But if the Panthers are to go one better this year and take the Golden prize then the ‘newbies’ to this Penrith squad must make some sort of impact.

Cannot wait till the NRL kicks off and for the Panthers first game which is on Saturday the 13th of March at Penrith Stadium! Bring it on.

Yeo and Cleary named Panthers captains

P

enrith Panthers is delighted to announce Isaah Yeo and Nathan Cleary have been appointed co-captains of the Panthers for 2021.

With 148 NRL games under his belt, 26-year-old Yeo is the club’s most experienced campaigner while 23-year-old Cleary has grown into leadership as the team’s halfback for the last five years.

“When I watched Isaah and Nathan during the first few weeks of this preseason, they were organically leading those around them,” Panthers coach Ivan Cleary said.

“It was immediately apparent what was best for our team. It felt like those two had already been appointed. It was just that natural.

“As first-time captains, I think it’s beneficial they can share the burden of extra responsibilities that come with the role.

“Of course neither of them are the finished product but this opportunity will allow them to continue growing as leaders. I know they will do an excellent job for our club.”

Born in Dubbo, Yeo was a member of the premiership-winning Panthers NYC side in 2013 and was handed his NRL debut by Ivan Cleary the following year.

“As someone who came to the club as a 17-year-old and worked my way through the grades, to find myself in this position now is something my family and I are very proud of,” Yeo said.

“It’s an absolute privilege to be

appointed to this role alongside Nathan. I think we’ve both grown a lot as footballers and leaders over the past couple of years.

“As a captain of this proud club I want to be leading by example, on and off the field, and I’ll be doing that to the best of my ability.”

A local junior with Penrith Brothers,

Nathan Cleary made his NRL debut at Panthers in 2016 and marked his 100thgame milestone in the 2020 NRL Grand Final.

“I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity to lead this club with my good mate Yeoy (Isaah Yeo),” Cleary said.

“When you look at the past greats

who have captained at Panthers, it’s quite overwhelming to think about being in that same position. It’s an immense honour.

“I’ve learned a lot about leadership over the last few years. This is just another step in that journey and I’ll be doing everything I can to help our club achieve success this season.”

full field of 144 golfers teed up at Twin Creeks Golf & Country Club on 9th February, in a huge fund-raising effort for 7-year old Archer Pittorino, who is currently battling High Risk T-cell CNS Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

Terry Lamb and Wendell Sailor were both guests on the day, helping to raise the profile of the event and also assisting with the fund-raising during the presentations and auctions.

The event raised in excess of $15,000 on the day and a full report and pics from the day will be in next week’s print edition of the Nepean News.
