This incident has happened in my country, where people now proudly identify themselves as a modernized society in this era of 21st century. But sadly, our beliefs are still the same as 16th18th century! I along with many other females of Nepal disregard of the religion or caste have been brought up saying, girls have to get married and go to someone else's house forever. There is an old saying that, daughters are someone else's wealth that parents have to take care for. Thus, once a daughter gets married parents feel the relief that they have done the right thing of handing over to the right owners selected by god. Meanwhile, when growing we daughters in one hand are educated, taught to be independent and focus in our careers. On the other hand, we are always reminded that we also have to learn to be perfect daughter, wife and daughter-in-laws when the time comes. Whatever the result comes for Latasha, murder or suicide, her case seems to be a pure example of social injustice that prevails in Nepal till date. Our costumes, tradition and our social norms are the main contribution to her death. Being married for only seven months and a girl dies, was she tortured so much that she had to kill herself? When she did speak that her husband was suspicious and had odd behaviours towards her, her family like every other Nepalese family asked her to be quiet, be patient things will eventually workout. Did it work? Yes it did! One life has gone for being tolerant, obedient, patient wife who just waited for her husband and his family to start loving her eventually! The only way of providing justice to Latasha would be by learning from her case and making a difference. Now the time has come, our social norms and tradition needs to be altered so that we have gender equality and all tradition suppressing females should be stopped. How can we do this? Dowry system needs to stopped; instead give daughters the amount you would spend on dowry in her own account to start a new life. Daughters need to be taught to speak for themselves when things are not right. Family, community and law network eg. Police needs to immediately act on complaints of social injustice and gender inequality. It's about time when we act and stop social injustice so we can prevent many lives of more Latasha.

uccess in sport is a source of national pride. This holds truth in any community sport competition. Sport is one language that unites us in a true sense. We are proud to bask in the reflected glory of the sportspersons who value their contributions to the community with their concerted and conscious efforts to enrich our sport culture. Football is a number one game in 93 countries and arguably most favourite sport in our community as well. Football has shaped the mindset of the Australian Nepalese community though watched by limited live audiences. Of course, they are quality viewers in a terrific way. It is heartening to know that the numbers of distinguished players and teams are growing very fast which are bringing more audiences in the playground. It is fans or audiences who boost up status of any sport or event. In our community, there are about two dozens of competitive football teams which participate in the various tournaments held almost throughout the year. There are nearly 8 veterans’ teams which participate competitively in nearly half dozens of tournaments some especially dedicated to the veterans. Since the inception of the community football competitions circa mid-nineties, many respectable football-lovers have been offering their invaluable service to the sustainable growth of football culture. Here’s a profiling of two leading and renowned footballers in our community, Deenesh Amatya and Ud Gurung. The deservedly versatile footballers play wide variety of parts for the overall impact-play of their team. Their sincere contributions in the best interest of our football –culture, and colourfully eventful footballing careers marked by uncommon style and genius of their own kind are proudly profiled in this month’s issue to be
