A Message From Mpp

It was a very hot, but amazing Canada Day, starting with the Aurora Canada Day Parade. Did you know that Aurora is Canada’s Birthday Town? Back in 1967, the residents of Richardson Drive threw a good-old fashioned street party on July 1st which grew over the years until an o cial proclamation earned Aurora the title of Canada’s Birthday Town in 1969. I was happy to see all the red and white colours and smiling faces in Aurora and then continuing in Newmarket with the Tim Hortons Canada Day festivities. Main Street was jam-packed with patriotic residents and Riverwalk Commons alive with music and exciting fire juggling.

Excited to announce that I am hosting a photography contest for high school students who live in our community. I am inviting our youth to go out and explore Newmarket Aurora while documenting their discoveries through photos. The winners of the contest will have their photographs featured in my 2024 community calendar that is sent to more than 50,000 households. Looking forward to seeing all the wonderful inspirations our youth find throughout our beautiful community! For more details on application requirements and where to submit, please visit my website at dawngallaghermurphympp.ca/photography-contest-2023/ or call (905)853-9889.

On June 24th, AFRY (L'Association des francophones de la région de York) celebrated St. Jean's Day at the Newmarket Community Centre and Lions Hall, where MPP Dawn Gallagher Murphy was invited to address the community.

The June NWMRKT proud T-shirt campaign was part two of a grass roots initiative created by best friends, Rebecca Gardiner and Joanne Sweers, in support of the Newmarket Food Pantry. Part one of this fundraising endeavour happened in the winter months, where they provided a NWMRKT proud toque for every $20 donation made to the food pantry. Raising approximately $7000! On July 12th, Neighbour Media joined Rebecca, Joanne and various other community supporters at Market Brewing for the unveiling of the toque and T-shirt GRAND TOTAL raised, which was… drumroll please… approximately $25,324.43! Thank you to Rebecca and Joanne, all of the initiative sponsors and community supporters.
