Canine Companions is a non-profit organization that enhances the lives of people by providing highly trained service dogs and ongoing support to ensure quality partnerships. They proudly o er their support services free of charge to recipients.
Their Northeast Region (Long Island Chapter) is located right in Medford, however they have six regions across the country and serve all 50 states.

DogFest is a high-energy, dynamic event for dog lovers and Canine Companions supporters alike. This community event celebrates the human-canine bond and the incredible joy dogs bring to the lives of many every day. While egaging new friends, volunteers, supporters and donors, DogFest raises money and awareness of the non-profit’s mission. This year’s event will take place on Saturday, September 23 at Marjorie R. Post Community Park in Massapequa Park from 11AM-2PM and don’t forget, September is National
Service Dog Month, so it’s the perfect time to come together and support the mission of Canine Companions.

BUDGET VOTE AND TRUSTEE ELECTION
April 4, 2023
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that pursuant to a resolution of the Board of Trustees of the Bay Shore-Brightwaters Public Library, a Special District Meeting of the qualified voters of Bay Shore Union Free School District, Bay Shore, New York (“School District”), will be held at the Bay ShoreBrightwaters Public Library located at 1 South Country Road, Brightwaters, New York on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, from 10:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M., prevailing time, and as much longer as may be necessary to enable the voters then present to cast their ballots for the purpose of voting upon the following items:
1) To elect two (2) Library Trustees to the Bay ShoreBrightwaters Public Library Board of Trustees: one (1) to a five-year term, commencing July 1, 2023 and ending June 30, 2028, as a result of the expiration of the term of office presently held by Joan MasonDollmann; and one (1) to a two-year term, commencing July 1, 2023 and ending June 30, 2025 as a result of a vacancy in the position held by Richard Harmon.
2) To adopt the annual Library District Budget for the 2023/2024 fiscal year, and to authorize the requisite portion thereof to be raised by taxation on the taxable property of the Library District;
1. FURTHER NOTICE IS GIVEN, that the election will be conducted “at-large,” with the candidate receiving the highest number of votes being elected to the five (5) year term, and the candidate receiving the second highest number of votes being elected to the two (2) year term.
FURTHER NOTICE IS GIVEN, that petitions nominating candidates for the office of Library Trustee must be filed in the office of the School District Clerk, 75 West Perkal Street, Bay Shore, New York, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., not later than Monday, March 6, 2023. Each such nominating petition shall be directed to the School District Clerk, and, unless further modified by Executive Order of the Governor of the State of N.Y., shall be signed by at least twenty five (25) qualified voters of the District. FURTHER NOTICE IS GIVEN, that the Board of Registration of the School District shall meet at the Bay Shore-Brightwaters Public Library located at 1 South Country Road, Brightwaters, New York, on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, between the hours of 2:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M., for the purpose of preparing a Register of the qualified voters of this School District for said Special District Meeting, at which time any person who shall present himself or herself personally for registration shall be entitled to have his or her name placed upon such Register, provided that at such meeting of the Board of Registration he or she is known or proven to the satisfaction of such Board of Registration to be then or thereafter entitled to vote at the Special District Meeting for which such Register is prepared. A person shall be entitled to vote at the Special District Meeting who is (a) a citizen of the United States, (b) 18 years of age, (c) a resident within Bay Shore Union Free School District for a period of thirty (30) days next preceding the date of said Special District Meeting, and (d) not otherwise unqualified to register for or vote at an election in accordance with the provisions of Section 5-106 of the Election Law.
FURTHER NOTICE IS GIVEN, that the Register, or Registers, prepared for the Annual School District Meeting school vote, held on May 17, 2022, will be used as a basis for the preparation of the Register for the aforesaid Special District Meeting to be held April 4, 2023. All persons who shall have previously registered and who shall have voted at any annual or Special District Meeting or election held in the last four (4) years, shall be included among those eligible to vote at such Special District Meeting.

2014 of the Education Law, as amended, any person otherwise qualified to vote who is registered with the Board of Elections of Suffolk County for general election purposes will be entitled to vote at the aforesaid Special District Meeting to be held on April 4, 2023, without further registration.
FURTHER NOTICE IS GIVEN, that voters shall also be permitted to register at the District Administrative Office, 75 West Perkal Street, Bay Shore, New York, during regular business hours on any weekday up to and including March 29, 2023. FURTHER NOTICE IS GIVEN, that the Board of Trustees of the Bay Shore-Brightwaters Public Library will hold a public information meeting for the purpose of discussion of the proposed budget on Wednesday evening, March 22, 2023, at 7:00 P.M. at the Library, located at 1 South Country Road, Brightwaters, New York. The purpose of such meeting is to furnish the residents of the District with complete and accurate information concerning the proposed library budget for 2023-2024. All residents and taxpayers of the District are welcome to attend this meeting. Copies of the estimated expenses for the ensuing year will be made available for inspection at the budget information meeting and at each schoolhouse within the District, between the hours of 9:00 A.M. and 3:00 P.M., on each day other than Saturday, Sunday or holiday, during the fourteen (14) days immediately preceding the Special District Meeting.
FURTHER NOTICE IS GIVEN, that pursuant to the provisions of 2018-a of the Education Law, absentee ballots for the election of Trustee and vote on the budget may be applied for at the office of the School District Clerk during regular business hours. Such applications must be received by the School District Clerk seven days prior to the vote if the ballot is mailed to the voter or by 5:00 P.M., prevailing time, on the day prior to the vote if the ballot is to be personally delivered to the voter. No absentee voter’s
ballot shall be canvassed unless it shall have been received in the office of the School District Clerk no later than 5:00 P.M., prevailing time, on the day of the election. A list of all persons to whom absentee ballots shall have been issued will be available in said Office on each of the five (5) days prior to the day of the vote, except Sundays and holidays; and posted on the day of the election.
FURTHER NOTICE IS GIVEN, that a qualified voter whose ability to appear personally at the polling place is substantially impaired by reasons of permanent illness or physical disability and whose registration record has been marked “permanently disabled” by the Board of Elections pursuant to the provisions of the Education Law shall be entitled to receive an absentee ballot pursuant to the provisions of the Education law without making separate applications for such absentee ballot.

These persuasive callers will offer any number of temptations to earn your trust and whet your appetite such as free merchandise including back braces, sweaters, and wheelchairs. They’ll say, “all I need is your Medicare number.” If you’ve gotten this far, stop right there. NEVER give your Medicare or any other identifying information to anyone you don’t know, whether by phone call, text or email.

Please ignore these callers and hang up, whatever they are offering you. You should only get medical devices or treatments from your own doctor or health care provider. These scammers have no idea about your health conditions and what you may or may not need, but may lead you on to obtain your personal information.
If you do place an order with one of these random callers, oftentimes you will receive an off-the-shelf piece of equipment; a foam neck brace, for example, yet Medicare will be billed for a custom designed
piece of equipment such as your doctor might recommend. In addition to potentially damaging your health, this transaction has the potential to damage your wallet. If Medicare has paid for an expensive item under false pretenses, and you need one down the road, Medicare will not pay again, an expensive potential risk.
Medicare sends a Medicare Summary Notice (MSN) to beneficiaries every three months. It is important to examine these notices to make sure that the services that Medicare has paid for
were actually ordered and received by you. If you have any question about the services Medicare paid for, you can call Medicare at 1-800-Medicare and they can give you more details about the service and provider.
Medicare pays out about $60 billion a year due to fraud, abuse and waste. We all pay a price for Medicare fraud, either directly or indirectly. It is up to all of us to protect the Medicare program by being a careful consumer. A critical part of your role is to remember to always treat your health insurance
card like a credit card and protect it.
