It’s that time of the year, from feasts of plenty to desserts galore, and every party and gathering in between. How do you thrive healthily through the holidays? It can seem like a lost cause. But hopefully, I can share some tips to help you succeed at your goals this season.

I started my program in late October 2016 knowing I was headed into the holiday season.

At first, I was tempted to wait until after the holidays, but I realized that gatherings, parties, etc. weren’t going to stop because I wanted to get healthy. I needed to find a way to make better choices to support my goals.

How do you plan your lifestyle around the holiday season, and what is your ideal outcome? Let’s start by finding out your “Why.” Ask yourself: • Where do you want to be when you wake up on the morning of 1/1/18?

• How do you want to feel physically and emotionally?

• Why is this important to you?

• What would it mean to you to be in a healthy place?

• How will this impact your friends and family?

Try to paint a picture so you can visually see it with your eyes and feel it with your heart.

Each year brings with it gains and losses, milestones and mini-markers of life. With that, each holiday season is a sort of closing ceremony, if you will, a gathering together of family and friends to take stock of the year that was, with the hope that - whether good or bad - the next will be even better.

Over the years, traditions have come and gone, along with many beloved relatives.

BIRTHPLACE VISIT - On November 14th, the 4th grade students at Our Lady of Lourdes School had the opportunity to visit Walt Whitman’s Birthplace. On this field trip, the students were able to explore Walt Whitman’s house and learn about his life.

The students also completed a poetry workshop where they learned about different types of poetry, and created their own original poems.
