Saladino Announces Child Car Seat Safety Check
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board, in partnership with the EAC Network, invite residents to a Child Car Seat Safety Check on Tuesday, October 14th , from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Marjorie Post Park (451 Unqua Road, Massapequa). The rain date is scheduled for Wednesday, October 15th.
Every year, countless children are injured or killed in motor vehicle accidents due to improperly installed car seats. National statistics show that as many as 3 out of 4 car seats are not installed correctly - a preventable mistake that can have devastating consequences.
Supervisor Saladino stated, “Motor vehicle crashes are the number one cause of death for children. Child car seats
are proven to drastically reduce the chance of fatal injuries, but only if installed properly. Our goal is to give parents peace of mind by ensuring their car seats are safe and secure. I encourage every parent and caregiver to take advantage of this free safety check.”

Earn All-State Recognition
The Massapequa School District is proud to announce that three students have been selected as 2025 All-State musicians. Senior Gerrit Dabovich and junior Sophia Rose Alfieri will attend the New York State School Music Association’s All-State music festival in December, while senior Gianna Attison has been named an alternate.
Gerrit will play the clarinet in the honors Wind Ensemble and Sophia Rose will sing with the Mixed Chorus. Gianna is an alternate for the chorus.
Students attending the NYSSMA All-State Music Festival in Rochester, N.Y. will rehearse with other talented high school student-musicians, followed by a culminating performance at the Eastman Theater. They also will learn from accomplished musicians and educators in
various workshops.

Town Partners With Community Group To Collect Peanut Butter
Residents Invited To ‘Spread The Love’ To Help Stock Local Food PantriesV
Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Tom Hand announce that the Town will once again partner with the Massapequa Farmingdale Men’s Club to host a Peanut Butter Collection Drive to help replenish local food pantries. Beginning October 1st, residents are invited to donate new, unopened and sealed peanut butter to help support local families in need. Drop-off containers are located at Town Halls North and South, as well as at the Town Ice Skating Center. Alternative butters, including sun butters, almond butters and cookie butters, as well as jelly, are also accepted.
“We are proud to once again partner with this great organization to help ‘spread the love’ and stock local food pantry shelves with this very popular product,” said Supervisor Saladino.
“Peanut butter is among the most highly requested food items at local food banks as it has a long shelf life, provides many nutrients and doesn’t require refrigeration. We thank the Massapequa Farmingdale Men’s Club for again putting our local communities first with this wonderful initiative.”

encourage involvement in education, charitable and social programs for the men of local communities, and to support the local and wider community with activities and contributions.

As students return to school this fall, Girl Scouts of Nassau County (GSNC) invites girls and their families to say “yes” to new adventures, leadership and community service opportunities and lifelong friendships by joining a local Girl Scout troop.
No matter their interest or passion, girls 5 to 17 years can discover hidden talents, build real-life skills, and grow confidence alongside friends who cheer them on every step of the way. Whether it’s building a robot, creating the perfect s’more over a campfire, planting a tree in the community, or filming their own movie, girls can dive into all kinds of activities that exercise them physically and mentally while they pursue their passions.

(Stop Throwing Out Pollutants) and Homeowners Cleanup programs will hold their final drop-off days this October. Residents can drop off materials at the Old Bethpage Solid Waste Disposal Complex, located at 101 Bethpage-Sweet Hollow Road in Old Bethpage.
Homeowners Cleanup Day - Sunday, October 4th from 8:30am – 4pm: residents can bring nonhazardous waste only, including: air conditioners; all e-waste; campers; boats and boat trailers (proof of ownership requiredoil, gas, other fluids and batteries removed); clean, broken concrete; large metal items; propane tanks and propane torches; tires; and yard waste.
“The fall season often brings with it the cleaning of our yards and winter preparation, and many residents may have significant amounts of non-hazardous debris to
dispose,” said Councilman Hand. “Residents can bring items such as used tires, fence posts, clean broken concrete or yard waste to our Homeowners Cleanup, as well as unwanted documents to be disposed in a safe and secure manner through our free shredding services.”

Lockhart Begins A New Chapter Of Kindness
Kindness is always encouraged at Lockhart Elementary School in the Massapequa School District and this year students are getting a literary reminder. Every class was provided with a copy of the Pat Zietlow Miller book, “Be Kind.” Teachers read the book aloud to their classes during the first week of the school year, then discussed ways for students to show kindness.
First grade teacher Brianna Maloney said the story serves a reminder for children to be kind no matter where they are, and that no act of kindness can be too small. She said the book’s message will be reinforced in her classroom throughout the year so students can “go out and make difference, and spread warmth.”

said they chose “Be Kind” as a schoolwide book not only for its positive message, but because the story provides students with actual examples of kindness. Monteleone Announces Fall Toddler Arts & Crafts Program
Oyster Bay Town Councilman Andrew Monteleone announced that the popular Toddler Arts & Crafts Program will be offered again this fall, beginning on October 7th. This 6-week program offers classes at the Town’s Ice Skating Center Community Room in Bethpage and at the Hicksville Athletic Center, and is open to children ages 2 through 4.
“The Town’s Toddler Arts & Crafts Program is a wonderful way to help support your toddler’s development through nurturing their artistic expression,” said Councilman Monteleone.
“Classes will certainly fill up quickly as this program offers children an opportunity to meet others their age and explore their creativity.
Highlights of the program include holiday crafts and
ceramics.”
The Toddler Arts & Crafts Program begins October 7th and is 6 weeks in duration. Residents who sign their toddler up for the program must choose one class per week, per child. Classes will take place on:
Tuesdays at 10:00 am for two-year-olds, and 11:00 am for three-and-four-year-olds at the Hicksville Athletic Center in Hicksville;
Wednesdays at 10:00 am for two-year-olds, and 11:00 am for three-and-fouryear-olds at the Ice Skating Center Community Room in Bethpage;
Thursdays at 10:00 am for two-year-olds, and 11:00 am for three-and-fouryear-olds at the Ice Skating Center Community Room in Bethpage.
Registration will take place online through the
Parks Portal available at oysterbaytown.com/portal.
Space is limited – first-come, first-served. Registration will close when the program reaches full capacity.
Each class is approximately 45 minutes. The cost of the program is $35 per child who is a Town resident, and $45 per child whose caregiver is a Town resident but not the child. The child’s birth certificate and a tax or utility
bill will be required to validate age and proof of residency. A guardian must be present during the class. A smock and supplies will be provided with enrollment. The final day to request a refund for this program will be October 17, 2025. The Toddler Arts & Crafts Program is run by the Town’s Parks Department, Recreation Division.
