Crazy Clothes Berner Middle School in the Massapequa School District celebrated Spirit Week from March 19th23rd. There were several themed days in which students and teachers donned fun attire like pajamas or Hawaiian shirts. On Superhero Day, students were asked to dress up as either a
Hollywood hero or an everyday hero such as a firefighter or police officer. It is also connected to Berner’s One School, One Book initiative. All sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders, along with teachers and administrators, read “One for the Murphys” by Lynda Mullaly Hunt. Lessons and activities based
upon the book take place throughout the year and one of its themes is to be somebody else’s hero. Spirit Week was organized by the student council. Adviser Denise Robertson said the purpose was to bring the school together and create a sense of pride.
