To TOBAY Beach On April 28th

Hundreds Of Vehicles To Participate, Trophy Presentation, Free Concert & Free Admission For Spectators

Long Island’s largest and most premier car show experience returns to TOBAY Beach on Sunday, April 28th, from 11am to 4pm. “Car Show Long Island” features hundreds of automobiles, trucks, military vehicles, and emergency service vehicles. A live concert performed by That 70’s Band will take place during the day, followed by trophy presentations. The event is free for spectators.

Spectators can check out cool cars, vendors, exhibits and enjoy live music while surrounded by Long Island’s best classic, muscle, antique and exotic cars.”

Car Show Long Island’s 2024 TOBAY Beach Spring Classic features some of the hottest and most classic cars in the tri-state region. While enjoying live music performed by That 70’s Band and great eats from the Food Truck Corral presented by Eagle Chevy Performance, thousands of spectators are expected throughout the day to get up close and personal with Long Island’s

best classic, muscle, antique and exotic cars. Trophies will be awarded in each class, and children will have a say when deeming which rides are their favorites in the Kids’ Choice Award.

Car Show Long Island’s 2024 TOBAY Beach Spring Classic is being presented by: Optimum, Signarama of Huntington and Whitey’s Tire Services of Brooklyn. Options’ Hosts Second Murder Mystery

Event Vital Funds Raised For Vulnerable Long Islanders

Options for Community Living, Inc. (Options) recently held its second Murder Mystery Event- I Love the 80’s to Death, at Mulcahy’s Pub and Concert Hall in Wantagh. Guests enjoyed dinner and refreshments while teaming up to question “suspects” and discover who committed the crime. It was an afternoon of laughter, intrigue, and fundraising. The event hosted 139 guests and raised over $56,000 for Options’ programs which help vulnerable adults, children, and families living on Long Island.

Yolanda RobanoGross, CEO at Options for Community Living, Inc. welcomed sponsors and guests with gratitude.

“Your generous support helps people who are diagnosed with mental illness and other chronic illnesses live with dignity in the community and we are

incredibly thankful.”

A moving testimonial was provided by Paul Ferretti, who resides in Options housing and works for the agency providing peer services for others living with mental illness. Paul discussed his life full of “highs and lows” including recovery from substance use and a debilitating stroke. “It’s been a journey,” said Paul. “I didn’t have the drive or energy to pick up

and start over again, but every step of the way there was Options. I don’t know where I’d be without them.”

The afternoon concluded with the announcement of raffle basket and silent auction winners along with prizes for the “Best Dressed,” “Best Detectives,” and “Worst Detectives.” Thanks to generous sponsors and a caring community, the event was a “phenomenal success”

April 30 Is National Therapy Animal Day: Consider Volunteering With Your Pet

It’s no secret animals can have a positive impact on a person’s mental and physical health. That’s why every year thousands of facilities such as libraries, schools, hospitals, assisted living, and more ask Pet Partners volunteers to bring therapy animals to visit and provide comfort to their students, residents, patients, and customers. This April 30 is a special day to recognize the beneficial role therapy dogs and other therapy animals, in partnership with their human companions, play in creating happier, healthier communities.

Unfortunately, there’s a shortage of therapy animal teams in the United States. Pet Partners is the nation’s leading registry of therapy animals, and their volunteer teams can’t fulfill all the requests they receive for therapy animal visits. The need for therapy animals has never been greater to provide comfort and support, especially after the impacts of the pandemic, economic uncertainty, and social discord in recent years.

The good news is that a wide variety of species can be therapy animals, not just dogs. Cats, equines, rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, mini pigs, birds, and even llamas and alpacas are eligible for registration through the Pet Partners Therapy Animal Program, which makes more than three million visits a year.

“An animal’s temperament is what determines whether they might make a good registered therapy animal with Pet Partners, not any specific species or breed,” said Pet Partners President and CEO C. Annie Peters. “Many of our therapy animals are rescue pets, and they assist everyone from veterans with PTSD, seniors living with Alzheimer’s, students with literacy challenges, patients in recovery, and people with intellectual disabilities. Saladino Announces Major TOBAY Beach Sand Restoration Project Calls On U.S. Army Corps Of Engineers To Develop Long-Term Solution

As The Town Launches A Temporary Fix To Save Summer 2024

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board today announced that the Town’s Department of Public Works is moving forward with a major sand replenishment project at TOBAY Beach in Massapequa. In recent weeks, nearly two million cubic yards of sand along with critical dunes were washed away – thereby exposing the pavilion foundation and the retaining wall which is the last line of protection from a total washout of New York State-owned Ocean Parkway. This sand replenishment initiative will save TOBAY Beach for the 2024 Summer Season, but further action from the Federal Government is necessary to secure a longterm fix.

“We know just how much TOBAY Beach means to our residents, which is why Town crews will begin rebuilding TOBAY Beach by trucking in yards of clean sand just in time for summer,” said Supervisor Saladino. “Warm, sunny days are just around the corner and we’ll have the beach open in time for you to soak up the sun, swim in the ocean and enjoy summer.”

Supervisor Saladino has requested emergency assistance from United States Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, along with Congressman Andrew Garbarino and Governor Kathy Hochul, to begin planning for a longterm solution. Officials in all levels of government are needed to pressure the Army Corps of Engineers to develop a long-term solution that hardens the shoreline with additional sand, shields the primary nesting areas of protected species known as piping plover, defends the mainland and continues to provide the public access

Long Islanders expect and deserve. While winter storms are partially to blame for the problems, Town engineers believe a change in longshore currents contributed to the crisis and that such transformation is the result of dredged materials placed at West Gilgo Beach in the Town of Babylon. Supervisor Saladino stated, “I know the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has the expertise to resolve this matter and I implore their immediate assistance. A long-term action plan must be implemented, along with the proper funding to achieve the goals of hardening the shoreline with additional sand, protecting the mainland and continuing to provide the public access our residents expect and deserve. The Town of Oyster Bay suffered enough during Superstorm Sandy and we must resolve this matter now.”

Despite no financial assistance from the State and Federal governments, the Town has spent million sof dollars rebuilding the beach and stabilizing dunes against

erosion. A critical public access point to the shoreline, TOBAY Beach is located in the middle of Jones Beach Island, a barrier island off the south shore of Long Island. The beach suffered a direct hit from Superstorm Sandy in 2012, and serves as a critical asset toward protecting the mainland, its property and population. Recent erosion of the beach and dunes threaten not only the recreation at the beach, but also poses a risk of flooding to Ocean Parkway as well as homes and infrastructure on the mainland.

To accommodate summer beachgoers, the Town will extend lifeguard coverage and swimming boundaries. In recent years, the Saladino administration has improved restrooms, upgraded the spray park, and installed a new playground and new bulkhead at the marina. These new amenities, together with popular restaurants and concession offerings, free Wi-Fi access, and mobility mats for strollers and wheelchairs, make TOBAY Beach a premier destination.
