Upgraded Clubhouse Opens In Burns Park For Massapequa Coast Little League
UPGRADED CLUBHOUSE OPENS - Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino, Councilman Steve Labriola and Councilwoman Laura Maier joined with Massapequa Coast Little League President Craig Garland and local athletes to celebrate the completion of an upgraded clubhouse for ball players at John J. Burns Park in Massapequa. The clubhouse features meeting space for teams. John J. Burns Park serves as home to the Massapequa Coast Little League. In recent years, Town officials have upgraded turf infields, the softball field and t-ball field. Supervisor Saladino recently advanced plans to upgrade the grass 90-foot baseball field to turf. Additionally, the Coast Little League donated new batting cages, as well as net replacements for existing batting cages inside the park.

In a heartwarming display of community spirit, the Friends for Life Seniors Foundation's 4th Annual Senior Day in the Park was held on June 12th at Marjorie Post Park in Massapequa This marked a significant milestone for the foundation, which was met with resounding success, drawing a crowd of over 500 participants The carefully chosen Yeehaw Theme set this year's celebration apart, which excited the attendees and added an extra layer of festivity to the occasion From the outset, the "meet and greet" with sponsors set a dignified and inclusive tone, setting the stage for a day filled with camaraderie, joy, and meaningful connections As attendees made their way into the park, some escorted via golf carts, the sense of togetherness and unity was undeniable. Seated at their tables, friends, both old and new, came together to enjoy the live band, savor a delectable barbecue from Broadway Gourmet Caterers, partake in line dancing, and capture memorable moments through a roaming photo booth, all of which contributed to the immersive and joyful atmosphere throughout the day. The event concluded on a sweet note, with Dairy Queen ice cream bars and the showcasing of 40 meticulously curated raffle baskets, a testament to the remarkable support and enthusiasm of all participants. The culmination of a year-long planning endeavor, it is evident that this gathering goes beyond mere entertainment. Event Benefits U.S. Troops, Honors Vietnam Veterans With Medals & Features A Parachute Landing
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board will host the 10th Annual “Shootout for Soldiers” 24-Hour Lacrosse Benefit Game at the Town of Oyster Bay’s John J. Burns Park, located on Merrick Road in Massapequa. This year’s event begins on Thursday, July 11th at 9:00am to 9:00pm, and continues on July 12th from 9:00am to 9:00pm. The event benefits veterans and active duty military personnel. The Long Island Air Force Association will conduct a special ceremony on July 12th at 11:00am to honor hometown Vietnam War Veterans and present them with medals that commemorate their service
to our nation. There will be a parachute landing on the field conducted by the “All Veterans Group,” which will deliver the official ball on Friday at 6pm.
Supervisor Saladino stated, “Shootout for Soldiers is a wonderful event that provides local lacrosse players a chance to enjoy a sport they love in a unique way while also raising charitable funds to support the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces. Whether you enjoy lacrosse or are just looking for a fun-family event, I invite residents to be a part of the festivities.”
The charitable funds raised at Shootout for Soldiers will benefit the Team RWB, the Long Island
Air Force Association, Strongpoint Theinert Ranch, and The Warrior Ranch Foundation.
The event features 24 1-hour sessions. The score is cumulative, resulting in unique scores for a lacrosse game with totals reaching into the hundreds. Participants include children, adults, seniors, youth, high school, college players and veterans. Teams that accommodate players with special needs are also scheduled to play.

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board invite residents to celebrate our nation at a special “Salute to America” concert and Grucci Fireworks Show scheduled for Tuesday, July 9th at a special start time of 7:30 p.m. at TOBAY Beach. This year’s “Salute to America” will feature a performance by Lee Rocker of the Stray Cats, and will conclude with a spectacular firework show by Grucci. This event honors veterans and members of the United States Armed Forces.
Concertgoers are urged to bring folding chairs and pack a cooler, as no formal seating exists.
“Our ‘Salute to America’ provides a great opportunity for families and seniors to enjoy a free evening of music and entertainment while celebrating our
freedoms in America and the veterans and active duty military who secured those freedoms,” said Supervisor Saladino. “This year’s concert features Grammynominated Stray Cats founder and bass player Hall of Famer Lee Rocker, who will undoubtedly give a wonderful and fun performance. An Inspiring Class Graduates From Massapequa High School
A class with a unique path to graduation made it to that milestone moment on June 21, when Massapequa High School celebrated the Class of 2024 at an evening ceremony at Hofstra University’s Mack Arena.
Speakers noted that they were the first group of sixth graders to attend Berner Middle School, then began their high school years at the Ames Campus coming out of the COVID shutdown. Through it all, they boasted great achievements in multiple aspects of student life.
“The Class of 2024 has been a pleasure to watch mature, excel and evolve into young adults,” said Principal Barbara Lowell, who met them during that
sixth grade year when she was executive assistant to the principal at Berner. “I have been so truly inspired by this class. From the artistically imaginative students, to the musically inclined, to the athletes and academic minded, our trustworthy and reliable students have achieved so many accolades.”
Superintendent Dr. William Brennan told the graduates that they are “the leaders our world needs” because of their ability to make a positive impact, inspire others, foster a sense of community and purpose, and stand up for what’s right. He reminded them that their experiences in Massapequa will help guide them to success.
“The most important part of any structure is its foundation,” he said. “Graduates, from the first brick that was planted by your parents and teachers, each brick has been placed securely. Today, you stand on the bedrock of your Massapequa school experience, enriched by the broader Massapequa community and anchored by your family upbringing.”
Valedictorian Victoria Chu was proud to be part of an amazing group of capable, hardworking and passionate people. Her message to her classmates was based on wise words from Walt Disney about the importance of moving forward.
“Life is filled with twists
and turn, and there may be times when we want to fall back into our comfort zones,” Victoria said. “But taking risks, pushing ourselves outside of the familiar is exactly what has brought us to this success today.”
Salutatorian Ava Minnini said as they graduate high school and prepare for what’s next, they just need to think of the first time they went into the unknown – starting kindergarten.
“As we embark on the stage of our lives, I’m sure we will regress back to the anxiety we felt as kindergartners and our colleges will feel as big as our elementary schools once did,” she said. “We
will undoubtedly face new challenges, and with them, new fears. We have all proven to possess the qualities necessary to propel ourselves beyond our fears.”
Speakers also included general organization President Jayden Pearl and Class of 2024 President Ryan Kurowski. Jayden spoke of health issues he has battled since birth and used those challenges to tell his classmates not to be afraid to run into the storm, “Because something truly amazing can be waiting for you at the other end.” In a humor-filled speech, Ryan also took time to praise the friendly, caring, thoughtful and welcoming Class of 2024, and thank the
administrations, teachers and staff who made their time in Massapequa schools so amazing.
Ms. Lowell recognized four students who will be entering the armed forces or military institutions after high school. Following the presentation of medals in each subject area, it was time to hand out the diplomas to 520 graduates. Retiring Executive Assistant to the Principal Michael Quigley and English teacher Irene Karayiannis announced each name. Once the diplomas were conferred, the tassels were moved and the caps were tossed.
