Lindenhurst School District Holds Reorganization 2024
The Lindenhurst Board of Education held its annual reorganization meeting on July 10. During the meeting, returning trustees were sworn in, and members nominated the Board President and Vice President for the 2024-2025 school year. Additionally, Vincent A. Caravana was sworn in as Superintendent of Schools. He previously served as
Interim Superintendent.
Donna Hochman and Josephine Martino were selected as Board President and Vice President, respectively. Trustees Maryellen Cunningham, Claire McKeon, and President Hochman were sworn in after winning reelection in May.
“It is a great honor and privilege to sit on this
Board and serve the wider Lindenhurst community,” President Hochman said. “I look forward to continuing the work of providing our students with the best possible educational experience and ensuring our schools remain Lindy Strong!”

Lindenhurst Appoints Permanent Superintendent
The Lindenhurst Board of Education has named Vincent A. Caravana as the permanent Superintendent of Schools. The new superintendent brings nearly 25 years of experience in education to the role, including nearly 16 years in the Lindenhurst School District. He previously served as Lindenhurst’s Interim Superintendent of Schools for the 2023-2024 school year.
“When I think about where most of the building blocks of who I am as a person came from, I think about all of the excellent teachers that I had,” Superintendent Caravana said. “I started my career in education because I wanted to be that person for the next generations of students.”
Vincent A. Caravana started as a high school English teacher at West
Islip High School in 2000 before moving to his first administrative position as Assistant Principal at Beach Street Middle School, also in West Islip, in 2007. He said working in public school administration not only allowed him to broaden his impact on student education but also gave him the opportunity to become a teacher and mentor to other teachers.
“The science of teaching never stays stagnant. There are so many layers to how humans learn,”
Superintendent Caravana said. “As an administrator, you’re not only working in the academic realm of education but also the social one. You are trying to get your teachers to grow and push themselves out of their comfort zone to become better teachers, but you can only do that if you have gained their trust.”
First coming to Lindenhurst as Coordinator of Secondary English in 2009, Superintendent Caravana became Assistant Principal at Lindenhurst High School in 2013 before becoming Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, and Instructional Personnel in 2014 and Deputy Superintendent in 2016.
Superintendent Caravana, a Lindenhurst High School graduate, said what makes the Lindenhurst community special is how friendly and welcoming it is. “We have a very family-like atmosphere here, and everyone really looks out for each other,” he said. “I’ve never seen a place with such a sense of synergy, camaraderie, and unified sense of spirit.” Looking forward, one of his priorities will be to expand the District’s career
Jones Beach 95th Anniversary Celebration
and technical education offerings to give students additional paths to success after graduation. “We always talk about college and career readiness, but the emphasis has more often been on college readiness,” he said. “I think students should be presented with the opportunity of pursuing what they love, whatever it might be.”
The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce the Jones Beach 95th Anniversary Celebration, a two-day celebration happening Saturday, August 3 and Sunday, August 4, 2024 from 11:00am to 8:00pm. This event will be held near the East Bathhouse and Central Mall.
The Jones Beach 95th Anniversary Celebration will feature family friendly entertainment and education throughout the two days. Family friendly
magic shows will be performed by Adrenaline Entertainment on 8/3 and Magic of Amore on 8/4. Jester Jim will entertain guests with a roaming juggling act to be seen throughout the boardwalk. Face painting will be available for children provided by Adrenaline Entertainment. EXOTIC WAREHOUSE
RESIDENT REMINDER:
Wrong-Way Parking Enforcement
The Village of Lindenhurst is committed to the safety of our residents, and their quality of life. Therefore, in an effort to keep the continuingly prevalent problem of cars illegally facing the wrong direction of traffic on our Village roadways under control, we are once again issuing this public reminder:
New York Vehicle and Traffic Law - Section 1203 (Additional Parking Regulations) and Lindenhurst Village Code - Vehicles and Traffic, Chapter 18583 (Additional Parking Regulations) state, “every vehicle stopped, standing or parked upon a twoway roadway shall be so stopped, standing or parked with the righthand-wheels of such
vehicle parallel to and within twelve inches (12”) of the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway.”
In short, on a twoway roadway, as well as on one-way roadways, vehicles stopped, standing, or parked must be facing in the direction of authorized traffic movement on the portion of the roadway on which the vehicle rests.
When someone parks their vehicle facing oncoming traffic, or parks against the flow of traffic, it is not only unsightly, but more importantly, they are putting the safety of others and themselves at risk. First, on a two-way roadway, you need to drive into the wrong side of the road to park facing traffic. Secondly, when you are parked facing traffic,
pulling out into head-ontraffic is dangerous. You might not be able to see cars coming towards you while pulling out, due to a blind spot from vehicles parked the right way in front of you.
In summary, you must park parallel to, and within twelve inches (12”) of, the right hand curb or edge of the roadway. If you park illegally against the flow of traffic, it is a parking violation, and could result in a parking ticket starting at $75.00.
Please be advised that the Lindenhurst Code Enforcement & Public Safety Officers enforce this traffic law, and will continue issuing summonses to violators.
We ask that everyone be a good neighbor and park your car on the right side of the road.

Alleghany Introduces Book Vending Machine
The students at Alleghany Avenue Elementary School have a fun new way to earn free books. The school recently introduced a book vending machine, which students are able to use after demonstrating good behavior.
The book vending machine was introduced as part of the school’s Practice Respect, Accept Responsibility, Work Hard, and Safety Matters— or PAWS—schoolwide behavior program. Students are rewarded with access to the machine, and the books inside, for demonstrating one or more of these important behavioral habits. It is a visually appealing and interactive way to get students excited about reading and to encourage good behavior. To kick off the vending machine unveiling, every student at Alleghany received one free book to read over the summer. The initiative is being supported by the Alleghany PTA.

153 Days
On August 1st, there will be 153 days left in 2024. That’s exactly five months or 21 weeks and six days to achieve the goals you set for yourself, your family, and/or your business at the beginning of this year.
How does it look for you? Are you on pace to hit your 2024 goals? Are you behind? Or did you say, “the heck with my goals” back in Feburary?
Some goals are harder than others to achieve. Buying or selling a home is one of them. It takes a lot of work and preparation to make the biggest purchase or sale you will probably ever make in your life.
Don’t wait for the “perfect time” to start thinking about buying or selling your home. Call me or send an email, and let’s start the conversation today so that when the market does change, you will be ready.
In the meantime, you have 153 days to hit your other goals.
