The Massapequa Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Village of Massapequa Park, held a joint Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of The Granola Bar, located at 4902 Merrick Road in Massapequa Park. The Granola Bar is owned by Julie Mountain and Dana Noorily. Massapequa Park Mayor Danny Pearl and Chamber of Commerce of the Massapequas President Robin Hepworth were joined by Assemblyman Michael Durso and Legislator James Kennedy to welcome the new business to the community. Chamber board members in attendance included Sal Poito, First Vice President; Greg Massimi, Third Vice President; Treasurer Karen Gawrych; and Board Directors Randi Jankowski and Isabelle Rapacciuolo. Massapequa Chamber Kicks Off Holiday Season With Annual Lighting Ceremony
The Massapequa Chamber of Commerce welcomed residents to Klestinec Park on Saturday, December 6th, for its annual Christmas Tree & Menorah Lighting Ceremony—one of the community’s most cherished holiday traditions. The festive evening was proudly supported by the event’s Main Sponsor, Masone Masonry, whose generosity helped make the celebration possible. Families enjoyed a variety of holiday activities, including a visit from Santa, Peter McNeil, hot cocoa donated by Broadway Gourmet, goody bags provided by J.P. Scar Inc., and musical entertainment featuring student performances. Dance studios added to the excitement with lively routines, while DJ Lockhart Robert Tamke kept the crowd engaged with festive music throughout the night. Celebrating the new year on January 1 is a relatively recent phenomenon. The calendar as we know it today has evolved several times and months have gone by different names. On the early Roman calendar, March was the first month of the 10-month calendar. That is why the last four months of the year have prefixes that coordinate with the seventh (September), eighth (October), ninth (November), and tenth (December) numerals. King Numa Pompilius reformed the calendar around 700 BCE by adding the months

This squeeze is particularly acute in primary care, but is also being felt in specialties like neurology, psychiatry and OB/GYN. According to the American Medical Association (AMA), here are the top reasons why it’s harder than ever to be seen by a health care provider: 1. Not enough doctors. With the U.S. population growing and aging, the need for physicians continues to grow. Yet, according to the American Association of Medical Colleges, the physician shortage is projected to reach 86,000 by 2036. 2. A broken Medicare system. With an aging population and more Medicare patients on the horizon, the Medicare system needs significant reform. Today, Medicare pays physicians nearly 30% less than it did in 2001, when adjusted for inflation. So while the overhead costs of running a practice—equipment, office space, staff salaries—have all soared, payment for caring for Medicare patients has decreased dramatically, making running a practice extremely challenging. “Physicians have shouldered the burden of a broken

Holiday Creations Illuminate Young Minds At Fairfield The holiday spirit is strong at Fairfield Elementary School in the Massapequa School District, where students have been working on festive projects that spark creativity and stimulate their thinking. Christina Tomaselli’s class explored 2D shapes. They decorated paper gingerbread
men with colorful stickers featuring different shapes and then counted how many of each shape they used. Margaret Kozak’s kindergartners made snowmen crafts using marshmallows, pasta, pretzel sticks and gumdrops. The pretzel sticks, which were used for arms, reinforced a
math lesson on horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines. The project also helped youngsters work on their fine motor skills. First graders in Anne Goode’s class spread kindness by writing messages to classmates on paper Christmas lights. Each student picked the name of a
classmate and had to write how that friend lights up his or her heart. In Alexa Brindisi’s class, fourth graders learned how lights are associated with several winter holidays. They then used tissue paper to make suncatcher lights to adorn the windows of the classroom. Students
explored the traditions and symbols of different holidays as part of a nonfiction writing unit. Third graders from Christine Russo’s and Alyssa Yablansky’s classes came together to share their holiday writing projects. Students followed two prompts, “If I was stuck in a
snow globe” for imaginative storytelling and “My holiday tradition” for personal, nonfiction writing. They completed their projects in Canva, blending creativity, writing skills and digital design. When the classes came together, students walked around to proudly share with different peers.
