Lindenhurst St. Patrick’s Parade Committee Announces 2025 Grand Marshals
The Lindenhurst St. Patrick’s Parade Committee recently held a press conference to announce the selection of Joseph & Marguerite Danaher as Grand Marshals of the 2025 Lindenhurst St. Patrick’s Parade! The Danahers, long-time Lindenhurst residents and local business owners, will lead the way down Wellwood Avenue on Saturday, March 29th, 2025 (raindate: Sunday, March 30th, 2025).
The Danahers have been fierce supporters of the Parade since its inception, with Joe marching every year as a proud member of the Amityville American Legion Pipe Band, and Meg’s WealthWave Financial Group’s (formerly Danaher Wealth Management) generous annual Parade Sponsorship. Joe & Meg embody faith, service, and commitment to their family, the Lindenhurst community, and their Irish heritage, making them the perfect choice as 2025 Parade Grand Marshals.
The Committee also presented charitable donations from the 2024 Parade to Tunnel to Towers Foundation & Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition. These organizations were chosen as recipients by 2024 Parade Grand Marshal Suffolk County Legislature Presiding Office Kevin J. McCaffrey.
here at the Press Conference (left to right) are: Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition Board Member Ed White, OLPH Knights of Columbus Grand Knight Patrick Corcoran, Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition President Karen Kunkel, Tunnel to Towers Foundation Representative Brenda Horgan, Suffolk County Legislature Presiding Officer & Parade Committee Member Kevin McCaffrey, OLPH Monsignor Joseph DeGrocco, Joseph & Marguerite Danaher, Parade Committee Secretary Katie Schrader, Parade Committee CoPresident David Crowe, Parade Committee Co-President & Deputy Mayor RJ Renna, Lilly Renna, and Mayor Michael Lavorata.
Presiding Officer Kevin J. McCaffrey Issues Statement Regarding End Of Suffolk County Red Light Camera Program:
On Sunday, December 1, 2024, Red Light Cameras Throughout Suffolk County Were Powered Down For The First Time In Nearly Fifteen Years
For years, I have publicly called into question the merit of the Suffolk County Red Light Camera Program, particularly due to a significant increase in accidents at red light camera intersections in my legislative district. Because of this, my name became synonymous with buzz words like “money grab” and “scam alley,” which I coined for the one mile stretch of Route 109 and Great East Neck Road in West Babylon that was home to five camera intersections.
Reports issued by Suffolk County found that these intersections showed an overall increase in both the total number of accidents and accidents with injury. In particular,
the intersections of Montauk Highway and Great East Neck Road/ Bergen Avenue as well as Route 109 and Great East Neck Road showed more than a 100% increase in total accidents and accidents with injuries. Both intersections are in the top five of intersections that showed the most significant increase in accidents and accidents with injuries in the Program. It became clear to me and to many that safety on this stretch of roadway was not the priority, but revenue was. It was the stance of the County that “The Suffolk County Red Light Camera Program is intended to reduce red light running, and by extension the occurrence of crashes.”
Utilizing a Suffolk County Department of Public Works Review of the
program, it was found that:
- Overall, there was a 59.6% increase in the total number of accidents from pre-enforcement to active enforcement.
- The total number of accidents during the active enforcement period exceeded the projected number of accidents based on Countywide growth rates.
- Countywide, the number of rear end and overtaking accidents was higher than projected.
- The total number of accidents that involved fatalities was unchanged.
The Red-Light Camera Program was sold to the public as a public safety program, but the “gotcha”
profit-minded goals of the program provided an undue tax on the hardworking men and women of our County. It was my intention to eliminate the revenue-generating goals of the program, and today we say mission accomplished.
Now let me be clear, I am not opposed to a program, if it’s done right. A redlight camera program does have the ability to serve a legitimate public safety interest. But to do so, the Program must be free of traps like “scam alley,” where the saturation of cameras has resulted in higher accident and injury counts without public safety benefit.
-Kevin McCaffrey

The Average Individual Is Retiring Earlier Than Many People Might Expect
According to a recent Gallup’s Economy and Personal Finance survey, the average individual in the United States is retiring earlier than many people might expect. Gallup found that the average retirement age
was 62, which is two years earlier than the working respondents indicated they planned to retire. Canadians are retiring a little bit later than their American counterparts, as Statistics Canada reports the average retirement age in Canada is just over 63 and a half. The average retirement age is worth noting, as studies routinely find that many working professionals greatest concern about retiring is that they won’t have enough money saved to
meet their needs. By recognizing that they may end up retiring earlier than they initially planned, professionals can make a concerted effort to save more money in the years ahead.

The steel displays are designed, bent, cut, and welded into about 800 frames combined in different configurations to create each show’s giant winter holiday scenes.

Giving Back And Spreading Joy To Hospitalized Children
The Toy Drive That Has Become A Deer Park Tradition
The holiday will be brighter for children at Cohen Children’s Medical Center thanks to the third annual collaboration between Mangano Family Funeral Homes and the Deer Park Fire Department.
Mangano Family Funeral Homes owner Sal Mangano says “This effort began 3 years ago and was spearheaded by Joseph Baggio, a local young man who is a cancer survivor. He is former patient at Cohen who was looking to ‘Pay it forward’. We are proud to partner with him.”
Cohen Children’s Medical Center provides the very best care to meet the special needs of sick children ranging in age from premature babies to
adolescents. The 206-bed hospital opened in 1983 as the NY Metro area’s only hospital exclusively for children. Today, they are the largest provider of pediatric healthcare services in NY State.
This year as an added incentive to donate, Family Florist of Deer Park is giving $10 gift cards to anyone who donates a toy at Mangano Family Funeral Home drop off location to support this year’s drive.
Mangano credits the generosity of Deer Park residents and surrounding communities for making this toy drive so successful year after year.

Fall Senior Advocate Schedules
Suffolk Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Deer Park) is pleased to inform Babylon and Huntington residents about the local Suffolk County Office for the Aging Fall 2024 Senior Advocate Schedule. Senior advocates are County representatives who come out into the community and assist seniors with information gathering, completion of eligibility or recertification applications and referrals to appropriate community agencies.
“It is so important for us to provide our senior citizens with the assistance and information they need in ways that are most convenient to them. These visits allow our seniors to connect with our County’s senior advocates right in their own communities,” said Legislator Donnelly. “I hope all those interested in the services that the
Suffolk County Office for the Aging provides will take advantage of this opportunity.”
This fall, Senior Advocates will be visiting the following locations in the Town of Babylon:
• North Amityville Nutrition Center, 48-C Cedar Road, Amityville: Wednesday, December 18, 10 am – 1 pm
• Spangle Drive Center, 4385 Spangle Drive, North Babylon: Tuesday, December 17, 12 – 3:30 pm
In Huntington, they will be visiting the following:
• Huntington Senior Nutrition Center, 423 Park Avenue, Huntington: Wednesday, December 18, 8:30 am – 1:30 pm
• Paumanack Village 5 & 6, 100 Adriatic Drive, Melville: Thursday, December 26, 8:30 am – 12 pm; residents only Advocates assist with the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP – formerly known as food stamps), Medicare Savings Program and Heating Emergency Assistance Program (HEAP) applications. They also can provide information on Medicare, answer questions and make recommendations and referrals. For more information about available services or directions to any of these locations, please call the Suffolk County Office for the Aging at (631) 8538200.
“For more than three decades, the Suffolk County Office for the Aging has been providing full and trouble-free access to critical services,” Donnelly said. “I am glad to see their great professional community outreach program continue and hope that every senior resident will make full use of it.”
