State Funding Keeps Adventureland Spinning Forward

New York State will help Adventureland remain a Fireball, as “Long Island’s Amusement Park since 1962” is set to receive $205,600 in funding for its five-year improvement project, Sen. Monica R. Martinez announced. The $10 million to $15 million modernization plan will introduce several new attractions to the park while retiring some long-time favorites. But don’t expect too much Turbulence from those closures. In their place will be the new thrill ride, Top Spin; a Miniature Pirate Ship; a refurbished Viking Voyage; and the installation of a water main that will support additional attractions, all made possible in part by this grant.

Funding is being provided through a Market New York grant, a program that supports regionally themed marketing projects that promote tourism destinations, attractions and special events, as well as tourism facility capital improvement projects.

“Adventureland not only holds fond memories for nearly every Long Island child and family, but it also holds an important place in

our regional economy,” said Sen. Martinez. “It employs over 650 local workers who keep the Train, and other rides, moving throughout the park’s operating season. Supporting Adventureland’s improvement is good for patrons, impactful for our community, and beneficial for New York State.”

The upgrades are expected to be Musik to the ears of visitors to the adventure park, which has operated rides, games, and attractions for children and adults of all ages on its East Farmingdale campus for more than 60 years. The multi-phased redevelopment project began earlier this year and is expected to continue until 2028, with park employment projected to increase by 10% upon completion.

Sparkling Wines

Sparkling wines can make special occasions even more enjoyable. That is why they're generally reserved for big events that warrant toasts, like weddings or New Year's Eve celebrations. But bubbly can be enjoyed at any time of year. Many people mistakenly believe that all sparkling wines are champagne, so much so that the term champagne has become something of an umbrella term. However, true champagne is made in the Champagne region of France from a combination of chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot meunier grapes. It can only be made in the region's traditional method, called Méthode Champenoise, and the taste will typically be nutty and toasty. Sparkling wines can be produced across the globe in various ways. The taste will vary depending on how it is produced. Sparkling wines are named depending on where they are made. Prosecco is an Italian sparkling wine, cava a Spanish variety and sekt is a German version.

Artificial Or Real Christmas Tree?

Even though the debate continues regarding the merits of artificial and real Christmas trees, it seems there is a winner, at least within the United States. According to Statista, 47 percent of American households own an artificial Christmas tree, while 24 percent purchase real trees. Though real trees might not be as popular as their artificial alternatives, the number of real trees that are purchased each year remains significant. According to the National Christmas Tree Association, roughly 25 to 30 million real Christmas trees are sold annually in the United States.

Soundtrack Of Excellence Farmingdale High School Band’s Unforgettable Season

The Farmingdale High School Marching Band showcased their talents at the 60th Annual Newsday Marching Band Festival on October 24, 2024, held at Mitchell Field in Uniondale. The spirited band, a massive family of 265 members,

including musicians, the Dalerettes Kickline team, and the DalerGuard flag bearers, undoubtedly left a lasting impression. Their production featured hits like “I’m Still Standing” by Elton John, “Last Friday Night” by Katy Perry, along with Justin Bieber’s

“Sorry” and “Beauty and a Beat.”

The night also held a special moment as the inaugural “Gina Pellettiere Award of Recognition” was awarded to senior Luke Aldieri, an honor welldeserved.

Saladino Honors Farmingdale First Responder Heroes

Supervisor Joseph Saladino joined American Legion Post 449 and New York State Senator Steve Rhoads to honor both Firefighter/EMT

Aaron Abrahamsen and State Trooper Salvatore Randazzo, two first responders serving the Farmingdale community, for their separate lifesaving actions.

Firefighter/EMT

Aaron Abrahamsen, of the Farmingdale Fire Department, responded to the scene of an emergency where a man had fallen onto the tracks and was struck by a train at the Farmingdale

Train Station. Upon arrival, Firefighter Abrahamsen immediately crawled under the train platform to assist the victim, applying a life-saving tourniquet to the man’s leg while an MTA PD officer placed a tourniquet on the other leg. Miraculously the man survived his injuries.

Also honored was New York State Trooper Salvatore Randazzo, who is currently assigned to the Farmingdale area. While on patrol with a recruit, Trooper Randazzo located an unresponsive individual in a parked car who showed signs of an apparent

overdose. Trooper Randazzo administered Naloxone to the individual who then regained consciousness and was subsequently brough to the hospital for further treatment.

“Both of you showed incredible courage in answering the call of duty, and it is due to your courage that these two people are still alive today,” said Supervisor Saladino.

“We owe a debt of gratitude to all of our first responders and men and women in uniform; it is because of you that we all get to enjoy the safety and beauty of each new day.”
