Parkdale Civic Association Delivers Holiday Support Through Successful Thanksgiving Turkey Basket Drive

The spirit of giving was on full display in North Babylon this season, as the Parkdale Civic Association once again rallied its members and neighbors for its annual Thanksgiving Turkey Basket Drive. This effort proved to be a tremendous success thanks to the community’s generosity.

On behalf of the entire Babylon Town Board, Supervisor Rich Schaffer extended heartfelt thanks and congratulations to the Civic for its outstanding work and meaningful contributions to local families in need.

This year, the Civic provided 10 complete Thanksgiving turkey baskets, each filled with all the traditional holiday trimmings and a $50 Uncle Giuseppe’s gift card. The baskets were delivered to the North Babylon Food Pantry at

St. Paul’s Church, where they will be distributed to families throughout the community.

Parkdale Civic President Chris Oliva emphasized the power of community during the holiday season, saying, “The strength of our community shows most during the holidays. We’re proud to stand together to support our neighbors and ensure every family can enjoy a warm and meaningful Thanksgiving.”

President Chris Oliva also mentioned that one of the most inspiring aspects of this year’s effort was the personal commitment shown by Civic board members and residents. Many reached into their own pockets, donating turkeys, contributing funds, and gathering needed items to ensure the drive’s success. Their

actions exemplify the true meaning of community and the impact individuals can have when they come together for a shared purpose.

The Civic thanked Uncle Giuseppe’s Marketplace for allowing the Civic to place a donation bin at the front of the store and for generously contributing a $500 gift card. This partnership played a vital role in helping the Civic expand its reach and support more families.

Supervisor Schaffer and the Town Board commended the Parkdale Civic Association for its continued dedication to uplifting local families and strengthening the Babylon community. The annual Turkey Basket Drive stands as a shining example of generosity, unity, and the power of neighbors helping neighbors.

Girl Scouts Of Suffolk County Host 2025 Holiday Lights Show

The Girl Scouts of Suffolk County (GSSC) will host its annual Holiday Light Show, which returns to Camp Edey in Bayport for an expanded, magical walk-through experience, Thursdays through Sundays through December 21, 2025. Camp Edey is located at 1500 Lakeview Ave., Bayport, NY 11705.

Launched more than 20 years ago, the Girl Scouts of Suffolk County Holiday Light Show has grown into a Long Island tradition — transforming the scenic grounds of Camp Edey into an “Enchanted Forest” of lights.

The highlight of the show will be “Girl Scout Way,” an area where the five winning creations from the 2025 Girl Scouts Holiday Light Design Contest will be on display. Each design was drawn by a Girl Scout and then custombuilt by the groundkeepers at Camp Edey in creations spanning six to twelve feet tall.

The 2025 Girl Scouts Holiday Light Design Contest winners are:

• Penelope Alambra, Smithtown, Troop 358, Brownie

• Amani Bradley-Coleman, Sienna Lebron, Teresa Cortez, Natalia Ciborowski, Kaylee Jimenez, Kiera GreenWilson, Maggie Ericson, Bomi Oyewo, Hanmi Oyewo, Lindenhurst, Troop 506, Multi-Level

• Ciara Weisbecker, Babylon, SU 14 (Juliette), Senior

• Olivia Castelli, Patchogue, Troop 1400, Cadette

• Sadie Ciesinski, Melville, Troop 103, Junior

“This event is a beautiful example of how Girl Scouts combine imagination, leadership, and community spirit to shine light— literally and figuratively— on the holiday season,” said Tammy Severino, President & CEO of Girl Scouts of

Suffolk County. “We are proud to showcase these designs and give visitors a chance to see the girls’ ideas brought to life in lights.”

Among the special features at this year’s Holiday Lights Show:

• A new “Cozy Bungalow Package” with admission for up to five guests in a private winter-themed bungalow plus food vouchers, offered at a special rate. Themes include Nordic Nest (Scandinavian, rustic, snowy lodge), Holly Jolly Hut (traditional red and green Christmas décor), Gumdrop Cottage (candycolored fun straight from a storybook and gingerbread-inspired décor), and Starlight Shack (twinkle lights and a starry winter’s night with touches of snowflakes).

• The “Chill Zone” returns, with lawn games, fire-pit warmth, and hot-cocoa

treats courtesy of FirstClass Food Trucks.

• Visits with Santa Claus! The event is open to the public, and ticket prices start at $12.50. Tickets and Cozy Bungalow reservations must be purchased in advance on the Girl Scouts of Suffolk County website: http://www.gssclightshow. org.

Every ticket purchased supports leadership programs, summer camp experiences, and financial assistance for girls throughout Suffolk County.

North Babylon Honor Society Inducts 110 New Members

Joined by family, friends, board of education members and central office administrators, North Babylon High School held its annual National Honor Society Induction Ceremony in the auditorium on Nov. 12. A total of 110 new inductees were formally welcomed into the school’s chapter.

National Honor Society advisor Shelley Seeno opened the ceremony and welcomed attendees.

Both North Babylon High School Principal Dr. Jonathan Klomp and North Babylon School District Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kenneth Graham shared congratulatory remarks, commending the

students for their academic excellence, leadership, character and service.

“It is a pleasure to stand before you tonight as we celebrate the induction of our outstanding students into the National Junior Honor Society,” Dr. Graham said. “This ceremony not only honors academic achievement, but also

recognizes the pillars of leadership, character, service, and scholarship.

“During the first few months of the school year, our faculty and staff have centered our work on the theme ‘United in Purpose, Unlimited in Potential.’ I can think of no better embodiment of that message than the inductees before us this evening. They

are united in their pursuit of excellence in all they do, and their potential, both individually and as a group, is truly limitless.”

North Babylon High School officers followed with reflections on each of the four pillars before lighting their corresponding ceremonial candles. One by one, inductees were called to the stage to be recognized. High school science teacher Amy Bongiorno was inducted as an honorary member. The ceremony concluded with all candidates reciting the National Honor Society pledge, officially marking their induction into this prestigious organization.

Small business owners no doubt recognize the value of repeat customers, but few may recognize just how valuable such customers can be to

The Value Of Repeat Customers

their bottom lines. A study from researchers at Harvard Business School found that a customer’s eighth purchase was an average of 80 percent

higher than his or her first purchase.

In addition, a survey from the strategic planning, marketing and sales consultants Altfeld, Inc. found

that the probability of selling to an existing customer is between 60 and 70 percent, while that probability shrinks to as low as 5 percent for new

customers. Customer retention strategies like offering superior customer service and seeking input from customers can help small businesses

generate more repeat customers, which can greatly improve their chances for long-term success.
