Unreliable
“I chose to pursue ‘Klara and the sun’ for my extended essay, as I believed the book would have a good scope for inquiry and analysis. I had always been interested in studying characters and the manner in which their external environment affects their thoughts and actions. Kazuo Ishiguro’s ‘Klara and the Sun’’ was the perfect novel to explore this aspect. The novel's unique use of a narrative voice and variety of intriguing characters drew me to investigate the complexities of relationships as a topic.”
Indira Ramasubramaniam
Language & Literature
“Personally finding poetry to be particularly enigmatic I chose to approach the work of a simple, yet renowned artist whose poetry was readable but still deeply nuanced and stylised allowing me to understand and analyse techniques, choices and authorial intent.”
Raunak Kumar
Language & Literature
“The reason I chose this topic was because I enjoy reading war time fiction and understanding characters and the decisions they make during these times. Anthony Doerr’s “All The Light We Cannot See” was one of the novels that caught my attention because of its nuanced and unique perspective on war and its effects on multiple characters. It utilized a wide variety of literary devices to portray the characters with great depth and sensitivity towards the issue faced by the characters.”
Pranvi Khare
Language & Literature
“As someone with a deep rooted love and appreciation for literary analysis, Language and Literature was the obvious choice. Combined with my long standing passion for graphic novels, it became immediately obvious that I would in some form analyse my favorite graphic novel: Maus. The first aspect of Maus that stood out to me was it’s representation of the different dimensions of guilt. The way each character seemed to be shaped by the guilt that they carry struck a chord with me.”
Skanda Swaminathan
Language & Literature
“I chose this topic because of my deep interest in supply chain management, rooting from my conversations with my mother (who is a part of the Walmart India team) about the supply chain of Walmart.”
Devansh Majithia

As I was greatly interested in the financial performance of companies, I decided to investigate how this loss leader strategy affected Reliance's profitability.”
Maitreiya Vohra
Business Management
“Although not a business management student, I was keen to understand the workings behind a successful organization and the various tools employed, leading me to undertake the factors leading to the success of Apple. This is a fairly unfamiliar topic to me and hence, I was forced to step out of my comfort zone in order to find the interrelations between the factors chosen, broadening the scope for analysis and research.”

Impact of a decrease in Indian tourist arrivals on the economic well-being of the Sri Lankan tourism industry
The Relationship Between Mathematics Self-Efficacy and Mathematics Achievement
The Influence of Psychological Stress on Unhealthy Eating Behaviours
“Throughout the MYP and DP Fairtrade has recurred constantly in our syllabus. Hence, given entire freedom in the EE I decided to explore this topic further. I found that certain economic theories connected explicitly to the topic and that it had great scope for both primary and secondary exploration, giving me an opportunity to not only find real world connections to Economics but also display agency by interviewing and studying communities myself.”
Pranav Gupta
Economics
“Being an individual who is greatly interested in current affairs and their impacts on national economies, investigating macroeconomic events intrigues me. As a result I chose to complete my extended essay on the influence of a weakening tourism sector in Sri Lanka on the national economy, as it had great scope for secondary data gathering, and is aligned with my interest in the larger field of Economics.”
Tarun Babu Padmanabhan
Economics
“I chose this topic in educational psychology as I wanted to do research that would be both personally relevant and helpful to the larger school community. I noticed that low self-efficacy in mathematics was extremely common and wanted to analyze its relationship to mathematics achievement.”
Gauri Babu Padmanabhan
Psychology
“When selecting a topic for the EE, I was quite clear that I wanted to choose a topic on the relationship between eating and psychology. I ended up choosing to explore the connection between unhealthy eating behavior and psychological stress. I was able to observe the impact that they had on each other in affecting an individuals behavior.”

“I was keen on exploring abnormal psychology, as it wasn’t something we had discussed in class before. I wanted to explore the angle of psychological therapies in depth, and thus chose to study cognitive behavioral and family focused therapies.”
Yuvika Goel
Psychology
“I chose this topic for my extended essay exploration because it allowed me to explore an aspect of Indian history that has been crucial to shaping modern India. Despite extensive scholarship on the causes and implications of the East-West Pakistan dispute, I noticed there was an absence of research evaluating possible motives for India's intervention. My extended essay therefore attempted to bridge this gap by discussing the factors that caused the Indira Gandhi Administration to intervene.”
Disha Aadiya Ajit
History
“One such reason as to why I selected this topic is because it had a large focus on ideologies in conflict - something I am extremely drawn to. It furthermore requires a range of perspectives and therefore a range of sources, which allows scope for evaluation and analysis - important in an extended essay. It also has a strong connection to our unit studied in school which means I had prior knowledge on the background of this topic already.”

“I had garnered a lot of interest in deep learning and it came as an evolution of my personal project topic. I also wanted to challenge myself with my skills in the topic and this topic was more than sufficient. The topic had a large scope for research and enabled my investigation to have a lot of depth. The format of comparing two architectures of neural networks allowed for me to display the knowledge I had gained on my journey.”

The Antibacterial Effects of the Culinar Herbs Allium sativum, Azadirachta indica, Citrus limon, Coriandrum sativum, Curcuma longa, and Zingiber officinale on the Growth of Bacteria
“I have always been interested in reading about the evolution of cars and trains. Modern high-speed transport vehicles can’t rely on friction brakes so use eddy-current braking systems for effective braking. Thus, I became interested in the mechanism of eddy current braking systems which are more efficient than friction braking systems. I wanted to investigate the different factors that affect braking by modelling the mechanism and make them more efficient.”

“Food poisoning is an illness that affects 600 million people annually and is one that nearly ended my mother's life last year. This scare pushed me to think about safe ways in which we can prevent food poisoning. Coming from an Indian family, I have noticed that there are a few culinary herbs that we apply to our food, to inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria. I was curious as to whether these herbs do have antibacterial properties or whether it is just a belief that has been passed down to us that we blindly follow. I aimed to use modern science to find any possible truth in the alleged antibacterial properties. This knowledge can then be applied and if I found that the herbs possessed antibacterial properties, I would achieve my goal of finding a safe, practical and effective solution to prevent food poisoning.”
