Neev Community Standards

Guided by our core values, we build a culture of learning at Neev Neev’s community standards reflect a culture where the emphasis is on building values rather than imposing them, on nurturing rather than sanctioning and on including rather than excluding

The culture our community seeks to embrace is based on rights and responsibilities. Thus, we acknowledge that you are entitled to certain personal rights and, at the same time, that you also have shared responsibilities as a member of the Neev school community.

Neev is committed to maintain and nurture a healthy and safe community in which your rights and responsibilities are balanced to promote learning with grit, honor and grace.

Please understand, therefore, that from the moment you join Neev until you graduate, both in and out of school, you represent Neev and its values at all times.

You are a Neev ambassador

● On school premises during class time and non class times

● On school trips or during internships

● Out of school on personal time with other school students

● Out of school on personal time with other communities

Your Rights

Your Responsibilities

We want you to become

1 A self directed learner This means that we expect you to a Learn autonomously in order to achieve your potential b. develop a growth mindset through reflection and goal setting c. emerge as a responsible learner who accepts feedback, takes ownership of your goal and making informed choices

2. A collaborator. This means that we expect you to… a. contribute to the design of a thoughtful solution while engaging positively with both adults and fellow students b. actively listen, empower others and demonstrate commitment and responsibility towards achieving common goals. c be flexible to be able to handle dilemmas and ambiguity and to adapt to situations while considering other’s perspective

3 A disciplinary thinker This means that we expect you to a use sophisticated tools and strategies to learn, extend and transfer your learning b generate original ideas and extend learning to solve complex challenges and problems c engage positively in the complex and ambiguous world

4 A community builder This means that we expect you to a use your skills and dispositions to understand, take personal ownership and commit to supporting the positive development of local and global communities b. show respect for the rights, property, laws and safety of yourself, others and school c. take ownership of your actions , reinforce responsible behavior and report wrongdoings in the community

5. A communicator. This means that we expect you to a express yourself and communicate with others in an open, respectful, and culturally unbiased manner b. engage with people, ideas, stories, and emotions positively and capably across multiple environments and act as a responsible safe digital citizen c. speak up against inappropriate, unethical or illegal behavior

Since Neev Community Standards depend on the active support of all community members, we encourage parents to

a) Instill and reiterate Neev core values in the home environment

b) Help their children understand and succeed in meeting learning expectations

c) Engage in open and timely communication with the school with respect to their children’s learning needs in order to address them effectively

d) Participate in school life and offer constructive input to support learners and strengthen Neev Community Standards

Appendix: Conduct and Discipline at Neev

Neev Academy is committed to providing a safe learning community in which our values Grit, Honor and Grace may flourish. We will always respond to situations that threaten or violate the physical and emotional safety of those in our care. At Neev responses to such situations will always be informed by and take into account circumstances

Behavior considered inappropriate at Neev

We classify behavior that interferes with learning or affects the well being of others inside and outside of school as disruptive and inappropriate behavior This includes, but is not limited to: ● Late arrival at school and to class

● Disrespect or refusal to obey rules

● Failure to comply with reasonable instructions

● Forging notes or excuses

● Non attendance or poor attendance in school or specific classes

● Failure to attempt and complete assignments

● Inappropriate dressing

● Profanity

● Minor conflict with members in the community

● Academic misconduct plagiarism, cheating, etc

We classify behavior that significantly interferes with learning or endangers the well being of others inside and outside of school as severely disruptive and inappropriate behavior This includes, but is not limited to:

● A repeated pattern of disruptive behavior

● Vandalism inside and outside of school

● Verbal abuse and making threats to peers and school staff

● Physical violence and abuse of peers and school staff

● Active encouragement of misconduct by others

● Racist behavior and expression

● Sexual harassment, assault or abuse

● Personal display of sexual conduct

● Theft

● Smoking

● Use or possession of any form of a weapon

● Use or possession of drugs or alcohol

● Breaking the law and engaging in illegal activities

● Bullying: repeated targeting, intimidation and exclusion of others by an individual or group,

Neev’s Response will…

● Be appropriate to the student’s age and unique needs

● Involve external referrals (attorneys, police, etc) whenever necessary

● Reflect the severity of the misbehavior and take into account the frequency, duration and intent

● Abide by the “innocent until proven otherwise” principle

● Be designed to restore safety and order as quickly as possible

● Give students an opportunity to generate appropriate responses and solutions of their own

Responses in addressing inappropriate behavior may include (the list is not intended to be comprehensive)

● Discussion with those involved

● Interviews that may involve students, staff, parents and external experts or stakeholders

● Counseling, mentoring or mediation

● Being denied a mark on a test and/or exam

● Detention

● Change of curriculum

● Repeating a grade

● Inform the community about the student’s misconduct

● Writing and issuing of apologies

● Making amends monetarily

● Implementation of a behavioral or performance contract

● Choosing to not write a LOR for the student

● Inform universities about the misconduct

Severely disruptive behavior may lead to

● Suspension without academic continuity (Rustication)

● Suspension with academic continuity

● Expulsion: this decision is subject to approval by the Board of Directors

Neev Academy Zero Tolerance

Severely disruptive behavior leading to Immediate expulsion

● Sexual harassment, assault or abuse

● Use or possession of any form of a weapon

including harassment on social media
