Coaching @ Majura FC Contact: mfc_technical@live.com Hello! For those who don’t know me I’m Paul Whittingham and I’m the Technical Director at Majura FC. Contact: mfc_technical@live.com Welcome to the Majura Coaching Bulletin. We aim to assist our Coaches as they work with our children/players during the coming seasons. Through the Bulletin we aim to bring the FFA National Curriculum and the Majura philosophy to life as we aim to improve the health and football ability of all our young players. We’d like to use this Bulletin as a question forum for you, the coach. So please email me and I’ll try to answer them. This bulletin has: 

Coaching News, including call to form a Technical Development Working Group.

National Curriculum: How it impacts on your team.

Coaching News 

In coming weeks we aim to produce Coaching Bulletins for all our Coaches. We would like to see a Q and A section with content driven by the Coaches. Any questions or ideas please email: mfc_technical@live.com

Majura will be setting up a Majura Technical Working Group to explore the development of our players and coaches. We will bring some suggestions to the Committee through our VP Football and vice a versa. If you’d like to be involved please email: mfc_technical@live.com

U7 Saturday Skills training session is currently being held every Saturday after U7 games. Please encourage your u7 boys and girls to attend.

Trial In-Season Coerver Girls program. We are currently trialing a Coerver Skills Development program for girls, aged 10-12. (The players pay Coerver directly which is an additional fee to Registration.) We are investigating the possibility of a boy’s program 11-14 in the second half of the season and a possibility of expanding the girl’s trial.

U10 Development Squads. The boy’s development program has been running for some time and will be training on Saturday mornings. Head coach for this squad is Jason Thornton. The girl’s squad will train for the first time this Sunday with Paul Whittingham as the head coach. We’ll bring you some updates in later bulletins.

FFA National Curriculum Of course no-one size or one solution fits all but the Club does now have a system of play for each age group, which will help all players progress into their older age groups. At Majura we follow the FFA National Curriculum and we’re aiming to implement this across the club, but we also recognise that Rome was not build in a day.

How does the National Curriculum impact on my team? It doesn’t matter if you are Coaching U8’s or u18’s, boys or girls, the National Curriculum is being implemented across the country and we’re introducing it at Majura FC. At Under 8/9 (with 7 players) teams are encouraged to play 1-3-3 At Under 10/11 (with 9 players) teams are encouraged to play: 1-3-2-3 . And from Under 12 and above all teams are encouraged to play:1-4-3-3 The new system is designed to educate our Coaches and young players in a level of football awareness that Australia has simply never had across all teams/clubs. Who wouldn’t want more! Click for FFA 1-4-3-3 explanation?

Under 6-Under 10s Teach the Individual – Tactics will come later.

  

Don’t worry about tactics or team strategies Encourage the players to express themselves, to try and dribble rather than always passing the ball. U6-U10’s is the time for the player to learn how to master the ball. He/she needs to feel comfortable running with it, receiving etc. This should be the main focus of your training.
