Belwest News Volunteers assist in various roles around the club. Without volunteers the players wouldn’t get on the field. So please consider what you might be able to do for the club next season. Positions Vacant Merchandise Coordinator wanted The current merchandise coordinator, after around 15 years, is looking to hand over the role. If you think this is something that you might like to help out with, even between a few of you, please email adrianandtoni@bigpond.com and organise to have a chat – full hand over included! New Treasurer wanted After 10 years of adding up the numbers our current Treasurer is keen to hand over the reins to someone new. The role can easily be undertaken at home and in your spare time when it suits you. If you are interested or want to know more, please contact Stuart to organise a chat. Stuart will still be around the Club so will be able to provide a full hand over and support throughout the season.

Ravens U8 My team ravens had a good season despite weather problems. We have not won a game so far but the enthusiasm for the game is great and we are looking for that win. Last week was a breakthrough week as we played as a team for really the first time which I think is fantastic. Playing soccer is good for kids Thanks to my team BILLY, THOMAS, MAX, LANA, RYAN, ALEX, JOSH ARCHER, CHOLIE

Thanks to everyone at Belwest for a great Saturday morning Jeff Smith.

Belwest U8 Magpies 2016 season wrap up The team had a fantastic season and have played some extremely entertaining football throughout. This has made for great viewing for our supporters who have braved one of the wettest winters for some time. This year saw the team move to the larger fields with new rules, more players and the added dimension of goalkeepers. The kids relished in this opportunity and also with the chance to test themselves against teams from other clubs. The team have had some great moments on and off the field and while it is always good to see some of the individual skills that each player has developed, the kids more often entertained with their ability to play together as a team. Thank you to my group of little legends - Ethan, Kyle, Keira, Abbey, Ollie, Cooper, Harry, Michael, Lennox, Bella and Levi - You have all worked extremely hard this year and it has made this coaching job an absolute pleasure and I hope we will see you all back again next year. To all the parents, thanks for all your fantastic support over the season and a big thank you to Vanessa and Geoff for all of your assistance in keeping me semi-organised which has certainly made it easier for it to look like I know what I’m doing. And finally, thanks to the Belwest club officials for all their hard work to make each week as enjoyable as it could be for everyone involved. Chris Benke

Wrap-up from Belwest U9 Emus The team had a great season! Although the weather this winter was not on our side, most weekends the boys were able to get out there and have a go working on their four key skills. And oh! What an improvement, with each Emu working hard to apply what was learnt at training and demonstrate the new skills on game day. With more mud than most kids and parents would like, it spurned a sense of adventure which lead to a lot of fun every Saturday. There weren’t many Emu wins but there was a lot more cohesion as a team with regular examples of fair play and mateship on display. Quotes from the kids: I learnt how to kick a ball with my left foot and actually passed the ball to another Emu player in a game! I learnt that each player has a job to do on the field so we need the different skills each player has to play as a team. I ran so hard today I’ve got nothing left –but it’s a good tired. I learnt that it’s important to keep your goalie bored! I just love playing with my friends (x10 Emus) Thanks to our developing coach Jose for some serious and silly training sessions, our super team manager Angela for her superior organisational skills, as well as all Emu parents for their involvement and support this 2016 season.

Under 18 Division 2 White team It’s been a tough season for this very young under 18 outfit. Half of this team would qualify for under 16 and the other half for their first year in the under 18 group. Having said that, the team has performed consistently well throughout the season. Often playing against older and physically bigger sides. We have been competitive and the season results show that we were never completely outgunned. Wins have been hard to come by but anyone playing this side has to bring their best game as we have held some very good sides scoreless for much of the game. If the same group returns for under 18s again next year, they will be a very strong side indeed. The team has grown a lot during the season, both physically and mentally. Reg Thornhill

From The Grill Another fantastic season finished….wow !!! We started with a new shelter…and it was needed….plenty of wet ‘N ’wild Saturdays were had. A huuuuuge thank you to our ‘Head Chef’ – Thomas Boschert for supporting the Belwest BBQ, setting up and starting the cooking each Saturday without fail. Thanks must also go out to the tireless workers in the committee, without you working in the background there would not be a BBQ each week…..also to the band of followers that just turned up when they had a few hours just to help out……..Tracey, Toastie, junior refs, the committee ( when I was off)….just to name a few. To the Mum’s & Dads, partners, girlfriends, coaches, managers and players….a massive thanks in becoming one of the BBQ supporters club….you all made each Saturday worthwhile organising the BBQ….we may not have broken our record from last year due to the washouts, but we gave it a crack…..and that is all that counts. Finally thanks must go out to the Georgio family for their donation of bread again…. you are Champs. If you get a chance please support our suppliers for the year, Mikes Meats & Toms Superfruits at the Belconnen markets, also Woollies Bakery Kippax . Signing off until next year Shaun Comber & Thomas Boschert Ps….to our nemesis the canteen….good try some great changes, better luck next

year.

Belwest Women 2016 For those new to Belwest you would be unaware that Belwest had a team competing in the Capital Football Women's Premier League over a number of years. Belwest were very competitive and highly successful. Included in the 2016 Women's Premier League programme was a "Trip Down Memory Lane" in which the 2008 and 2009 Women's Premier League Grand Finals have been highlighted and in which Belwest competed. (See next page.) Enjoy!! Women's 2016 season. The Belwest Women's programme got off to a fantastic start this year with a record number of enquiries translating to an increase in player numbers. Every year the women have struggled with numbers but this season it was the reverse. Players were even turned away. Belwest entered three women's teams: Division 1, Division 4 and Division 5. All three teams progressed to the semi finals with Divisions 1 and 4 holding the Belwest flag high in the grand final. The grand finals were played on Sunday 4 September at Nicholls synthetic. Division 1, unfortunately, went down to ADFA 1-0 but the Division 4 team trounced their opponents Yass winning 4-1. Yass were never in the game as Belwest were up 3-0 within the first 20 minutes. The Division 4 team, along with the Grand Final Trophy, were also crowned League Champions and the Women's Division 4 Golden Boot winner was from this team, Taryn Ashton. A highly successful season for the Belwest Women's teams. If you would like to play for OUR FANTASTIC CLUB in 2017 and beyond...don't leave it

too late. The senior women will start training mid January. Kerrie's contact details are on the Belwest website. I am now enjoying the break. See you in 2017.
