STARS IN NORTH DAKOTA FFA Stars Honored for Outstanding Projects The State FFA Degree, the highest degree conferred by the North Dakota FFA, was presented to 199 agricultural education students at the 2006 North Dakota FFA Convention held in Fargo , June 5-9. After a review of the student's supervised agricultural experience program and records, the sixteen most outstanding were selected to be finalists as State Star Farmers, Stars in Agribusiness, Stars in Placement, and Stars in Agriscience. They are:
Star in Agri–Business: Erica Spangelo, Hebron -In 1999, Erica convinced her dad to buy the rundown “Meyer Theater ” in Hebron . This was the start of a huge renovation project that involved many volunteers from the community and hundreds
of hours for Erica and her family. From top to bottom the once “eye sore” building on main street is now a beautifully restored, fully functioning movie theater and community meeting center. Erica owns 25 % of this business and works on the weekly advertising, maintenance, ticket and refreshment sales as well as operating the projectors. Her parents are Bob and Cathy Spangelo, and Mr. Kevin Nelson is her FFA Advisor. Finalists: Logan Robertsdahl, Richland 44; Krysten Green, Granville; Joseph Peterson, Lakota
Star of Ag Placement: Austin Emerson, Minot -Austin is the son of Kathy Emerson of Minot . His SAE Program for the past 3 years
has been in the area of Ag Mechanics placement with Gooseneck Implement. As a part of his small engines class at Minot High School , Austin found out about a job opportunity at Gooseneck Implement while ordering parts for his small gas engine project. His employment experiences started with shop cleanup and the detailing of equipment for the sales staff and then progressed to helping the equipment technicians. Following graduation from Minot High school , Austin enrolled in the John Deere Ag Service Technician Program at the ND State College of Science at Wahpeton, and he continues his internship with Gooseneck Implement. His FFA Advisors are Mr. Tom Hanson, Mr. Lance VanBerkom, Mr. Jeff Ball and Ms. Tracey Hartwig.
