GREETINGS FROM THE

ND FFA FOUNDATION WORDS FROM OUR PRESIDENT When I think of one word to describe our FFA organization of members, instructors, sponsors, donors and parents, it is RESILIENCE. The dictionary defines resilience as “the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness.” The ND FFA has kicked off 2021 with the strength, flexibility and hardiness required to overcome a challenging task, continuing to move forward after the craziness of 2020.

Congratulations to all who applied and received an SAE starting or expansion grant, college scholarships, and an FFA jacket through the Blue Jackets Bright Futures program. Thank you to all who helped organize, provided matching dollars and participated in this year’s Giving Hearts Day. It was another excellent year for the ND FFA Foundation and all we serve - make sure to check out the Giving Hearts Day recap in this issue. As always, we can never say Thank You enough to our many sponsors and donors who allow us to provide so many incredible opportunities to our ND members. A special congratulations and thank you to our new Star Partners! A huge thank you to all of you for your continued support! Respectfully,

Christina Dockter

What made you interested in the career of Agricultural Education?

What would you like readers to know about you?

When I started college at NDSU, I had no idea I would choose to base my career off of Agricultural Education. I did know that I wanted to major in something related to agriculture, as it’s something I have always had a passion for. I started majoring in General Ag. so I could get a feel for what I wanted to do. From there, I fell in love with NDSU’s Ag. Ed. classes. It is satisfying for me knowing, someday, I’ll be able to share my passion with students.

My favorite color is lavender, my favorite animal is a cow, if I could have any sort of superpower it would be mind reading, I am a certified artificial insemination tech, and in my free time I love to spend time with my friends and family! If you see me around this summer, don’t be afraid to come say hi! I’d love to meet as many of you as I can. What year are you in school and when do you plan to graduate? I am a Junior, with plans to graduate after the fall of 2022. Read more about Olivia at NDFFA.co/2021ffaintern

CHAPTERS MADDOCK FFA PARTICIPATE IN

LEEDS VOLUNTEERISM PROJECT

AND

10-Year Sponsors

By Hailey Maddock, Maddock FFA Chapter President

Being an FFA member is more than just the blue corduroy jacket. It's an opportunity to serve others, grow as an individual, and ultimately make the world a better place. These opportunities and moments of growth are precisely what the Maddock A. S. Gibbens and Leeds FFA Chapters experienced. On August 29, 2020, the Maddock A.S. Gibbens FFA Chapter and the Leeds FFA chapter provided some much-needed volunteer service at the "Garden Dwellers" located in Fillmore, North Dakota. The owners of Garden Dwellers, Holly and Barry Mawby, needed help with cleaning up their herb and spice gardens after taking a couple of months break due to health issues. "It was hard work that paid off," said Andrea Arnold, the Maddock FFA Chapter Secretary. With the help from Farm Rescue, the chapter members were able to complete two weeks of work in around six hours. Whether it be picking weeds or cleaning up branches, the work significantly impacted those who participated or experienced the teamwork and determination that those twenty-one FFA members executed. Kearn Nelsen, Vice President of the Leeds FFA Chapter, highlights the preparation for servicebased projects in the Ag. Ed. curriculum and FFA organization. "My favorite part of FFA's motto is 'living to serve.' and this project allowed us to put these words into action," she said. "Farm Rescue has been an organization very dear to me. Its mission is entirely volunteer-based, so the fact that the Leeds and Maddock FFA chapters could come together to do something that impacted a family's life is amazing."

CDE RESULTS

FOR SAE PROJECTS

Seventeen North Dakota students received a $1,000 grant from the North Dakota FFA Foundation. The grants must be put towards agriculture-based businesses and/or projects that are part of their Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE). Officially known as the Bakk Farm Supervised Agricultural Experience Grant, the funds for these grants come from the revenue generated by land gifted to the North Dakota FFA by Fred Bakk in 1980. Through the course of its existance, this grant program has given hundreds of thousands of dollars to ND FFA members.
