69 MEMBERS COMPETE AT THE 90TH NATIONAL FFA CONVENTION

Sixty-nine North Dakota FFA members competed at the 90th National FFA Convention held October 23-25 in Indianapolis. Over 480 ND members and guests attended the National Convention. The 69 students who competed were part of 16 career development events; four Leadership Development Events; two were selected to be a part of the National FFA Band; and two in the National FFA Choir. North Dakota was represented well with numerous teams finishing in the top 10 in the nation; 48 receiving their American Degree; four recipients of the Honorary American FFA Degree and recognition at the national level in many other areas. ND FFA’s membership increase of 15% for the 2016-17 year earned the ND FFA Association the National 2nd Place Award for Membership Growth.

AUDRA MONTGOMERY, STAR IN AGRIBUSINESS FINALIST Audra Montgomery, of Carrington, represented ND as a one of four finalists for the American Star in Agribusiness. Audra’s agribusiness SAE began in high school. While on the livestock show circuit, she recognized a need for readily available show supplies. Audra began filling that need by selling show supplies to her fellow competitors. She is currently a junior at NDSU majoring in agricultural education. Audra’s parents are Betty and Dennis Montgomery and her advisor is Missy Hansen.

COLE KETTERLING, NATIONAL PROFICIENCY WINNER A keen eye for the business of farming helped Cole Ketterling of the Wishek FFA Chapter earn the 2017 National Proficiency for Diversified Crop Production. Farming with his family near Wishek, Cole has a deep appreciation for, and understanding of, the benefits of diversified farming and ranching. Cole plans to complete his degree in agricultural economics at NDSU and return to help operate his family’s farm. Cole currently serves as the ND FFA State President. His parents are Kermit and Dynette Ketterling. His advisor is Kristi Tonnessen.
