The Assault on Truth

“So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him”

Isaiah 59:19

The shadows of our enemies are creeping in deeper, darker, and more destructively than we ever imagined possible. If you reside in Canada or the United States, we must wake up and confront the harsh reality; our nations are in crisis. With each passing day, decency and civility are being extinguished, replaced by a torrent of angry rhetoric, toxic behaviour, and poisoned ideologies.

The shocking assassination of Charlie Kirk was a tragedy that left us stunned, yet perhaps not entirely surprised. The rot and decay festering in our academic centres is unparalleled; a calculated indoctrination of an entire generation that has become our unfortunate reality. We have grown complacent, as long as the facade of prosperity continues to fly high and proud, we are not concerned.

In times of rampant sin, the words of Isaiah still ring true to our predicament. He draws our attention to the lamentable state of his people—hands stained with blood and lips that twist the truth and perpetuate lies. They turn away from justice, abandoning truth, indulging in evil, and delighting in the shedding of innocent blood. Their thoughts are consumed by sin, charting a course of destruction and desolation. Peace and righteous judgment are strangers to them, forsaken for a life that stands in stark opposition to real justice (Is. 59:3-9). Isaiah encapsulates this plight by declaring, “And judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter” (Is. 59:14). Yet amid this grim reality, Isaiah’s words echo through time, inject-

ing hope into what may appear as an utterly hopeless situation. He brings forth two profound truths we must cling to.

First of all, the certainty of God’s intervention and victory against seemingly insurmountable evil is as undeniable as the very air we breathe. The beginning of verse 20 states, “The Redeemer shall come to Zion…”. While we may feel powerless to halt the relentless march of sin, our God is not hindered. His timing surpasses our understanding, etched clearly into His divine calendar.

Secondly, God has a rallying cry for His people, a banner under which we find strength. When God peers down from heaven, it must grieve Him profoundly to witness the absence of justice. He seeks someone equipped to confront this chaos, to put on the armour of righteousness, and to rise up against the enemy with righteous indignation. Our rallying point is none other than our Saviour, Redeemer, and Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ. The enemy strives relentlessly to divert our focus, but we must remain steadfast in our purpose and resolute in our battle against sin. And we can only do that if Jesus, the light of the world, is our focus. He both the rallying point and the rallying cry.

The darker this world becomes the more desperate we should be for light, and there is no light apart from Jesus. Friends, don’t be discouraged. The enemy’s flood can never drown out the standard of righteousness that God has lifted up through His Son, the Lord Jesus.

Steps to Spiritual Strength

All will agree that Ezekiel was a spiritual “strongman.” His name means “God will strengthen.” What was it that contributed to his stamina? He lived and ministered in a time of national defeat and exile among a people who had no interest in his ministry. He was lonely, especially after his loving wife passed away. What constituted his spiritual strength? With simplicity and sincerity Ezekiel...

Ezekiel’s grasp of who God is and His infinite greatness took place in solitude and formed the foundation of his life ministry.

II. ...RECEIVED GOD’S WORD (Ezek. 1:3; 3:1-4)

I. ...RECOGNIZED GOD’S PRESENCE (Ezek. 1:1, 26-28)

He stood quietly on the banks of the Chebar River. There he saw visions of God in His splendour, majesty, and power. In our day of constant activity, we too need to learn to be quiet before the Lord.

God’s Word came “expressly” to Ezekiel and the Hand of the Lord was distinctly upon him. Shortly after, he was instructed to “eat” what God gave him (3:1-4). It was “meat and drink” for him. God’s Word was to be part of him. He received it as it was; he did not “cook” it or in any way alter it. His task was to speak God’s Word to the difficult people before him (3:4). Ezekiel was to minister exactly what God gave him. The inspired message was sweet, like honey, to him (3:3). The Bible must do more than fill us with facts. It must be received personally at head and heart level. Embrace all its truths with both arms and hold

ity we have to nurture, guide, and train students to love and serve Christ. As we trust in God’s guidance and power, we look forward to a year in which our students grow in their understanding and mature in their faith. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding” (Proverbs 9:10).

it tightly. Live in its strength. In doing so, submit to the Holy Spirit’s leading (2:2).

III. ...RESPONDED TO GOD’S WILL (Ezek. 3:5, 17-21)

Ezekiel was sent in God’s will to a people who “will not hearken unto thee” (3:7); he obeyed and declared all that God had given to him. Just as God’s truth first blessed and strengthened Ezekiel, it was also intended to change the lives of others. He was to serve as a watchman in God’s will (3:1721). As this man of God recognized God’s presence, received His Word, and responded to God’s will, his strength continued to grow. He went on to deliver Christological and Eschatological truths (21:27; Ch. 38-48). God’s people today would do well to follow Ezekiel’s steps to spiritual strength.
