LANGUAGES ITALIAN ELECTIVE SUBJECT - TWO SEMESTERS Learning Focus

In this course, students compare and contrast aspects of Italian life. They interact to exchange information and opinions on topics in Italian They conduct research and reorganise information to present in a range of spoken and written forms. Students will expand their grammar knowledge, and they will learn a variety of verb tenses including the future, imperative, perfect and imperfect tenses within cultural contexts Students will also extend their cultural awareness through topics such as Italian gestures, the environment, the contributions Italians have made in Melbourne, teenage lifestyle, housing, tourism, keeping fit, fashion and shopping, films and festivals, technology and the Italian school system.

Victorian Curriculum Strands:

Communicating

Students will be able to:

• discuss their daily routine

• talk about socialising and keeping fit

• shop for food

• ask for, give and follow directions

• talk about what they did in their free time

• describe where they went

• talk about their home and other types of homes

• describe the interior and exterior of their home

• talk about getting around the city

• express what they saw and liked

Understanding

Students will learn about and develop an appreciation for:

● differences and similarities between Italian and Australian teenagers' lifestyles

● differences and similarities between Italian and Australian housing

● how to speak about the past

Assessment:

ELECTIVE SUBJECT - TWO SEMESTERS Learning Focus

In this course, students compare and contrast aspects of Japanese life They interact to exchange information and opinions on topics in Japanese. They conduct research and reorganise information to present in a range of spoken and written forms. They will also learn how to complete extended writing tasks on Genk Yoshi (traditional Japanese writing paper)

● order food at a restaurant

● comment on what one is doing

● describing what people look like and what they are wearing

● describing someone’s personality

● give reasons

● asking where something is

● giving directions

● saying that you like or dislike doing something

● saying that you can or cannot do something

● conduct an interview about sports

● complete a job application

● saying that you can or can or cannot do something

● listing some of the activities that you do

● comparing two things and giving an opinion

● saying what someone will try doing

● talking about someone doing two actions at the same time

Understanding

Students will learn about and develop an appreciation for:

● Japanese table manners and cuisine

● Japanese design influences on fashion globally

● Japanese etiquette, social customs and cultural features at work placed

● The Japanese address system

● The lifestyle of a trainee sumo wrestler

● Common manners in Japanese traditional sports
