The “On the trail of the knight” adventure museum Discover exciting stories about life of knights, their castles and weapons. Listen – see – feel, use all your senses in the 14 medieval themed rooms.

For children there are additional stations and the challenge of a museum ralley.

Feel the weight of the helmets and equipment on your own body. Answer questions at 10 interactive stations that ‘Ritter Rüdiger’ has drawn up on your journey through the Middle Ages and earn a knightly accolade, or be named lady of the castle.

Dive into the realm of ”The last wild river“

Nature exhibition The nature exhibition ‘The last wild river’ presents this ‘pure river’: the wide river bed, gravel-packed islands, the extensive branches of the river and large fluvial woodlands – this is what how Tirol’s Lech, the last wild river in the North Alps reveals itself.

Why is Tirol’s Lech so distinctive? What is a wild river?

From one gravel-packed islet to another, explore the ­abundance of life in the middle of the river. Find out about the plants and animals that have adapted to life in the ‘last wild river’.

Head out on a safari in the last jungle in Europe – discover the fluvial forests, witness scenes from past times and follow the course of the Lech as a bird would, from the source to the Lech Falls. Colourful pebbles recount the story of its genesis in a vivid manner.

In the Grünes Haus

Museum visit The museum in the Green House is located in Reutte’s Untermarkt. The strong shade of green gives the house its name. The wonderful facade was designed in 1779

by Johann Jakob Zeiller. Awaiting you inside are ­beautiful murals and 13 stuccoed ceilings. The mu­seum has been proud winner of the Tyrolean Museum Prize three times along with the Austrian Museum Quality Seal.

Over around 300 m2 of exhibition space you will find a varied and lovingly presented collection. You can see valuable paintings from the painter‘s workshop of the Zeiller artist family. Well worth seeing are the works of Anna Stainer-Knittel, better known as Geierwally. Visit our clock display and the original-style tavern and ­discover archaeological finds from our region. The ­impressive Rodfuhrtafeln tell about the historic heyday of the salt trade in Reutte.

Herb walk Meadow clary, tormentil and broad-leaved thyme – the plant kingdom in Tyrol’s Lech Nature Park is renowned for its exceptional variety of flowers and herbs.

Healing herbs were used in folk medicine in the Middle Ages and are still used today in modern medicine.

During this walk you find out everything about the ­effects and application of local wild herbs. A nature park guide provides you with tips for collecting, drying and making salves, tinctures and tisanes.

With hike to Lake Alatsee / Salober Alm mountain cabin

Guided tour hammer mill More than 700 years of history await you. The blacksmith shop in this type is a cultural rarity in all of Tirol.

Its origin dates back to the Middle Ages. It was the armoury for the Knights of Hohenegg (13th – 17th century).

In the blacksmith shop there are 3 water wheels, a forge, 3 sledges, a camshaft, bellows, transmissions and various tools and machines to see. After the tour we’ll invite you for a hike: Climb up along the Vilsegg ruins to Salober Alm (optional snack stop) and descent along myth-enshrouded Lake Alatsee and back to the hammer mill.

Musician workshop for guests The Steirische Harmonika is a musical instrument which is the most common musical instrument in the Alpine area and is definitely part and parcel of a holiday in Austria. Whether it is in a traditional Alpine inn, by the camp fire, over a leisurely evening meal or at parties where there is singing and dancing – the ­special sound of the Steirische Harmonika always suits the ­occasion and delights young and old alike with hear-­ tening folk music. Musteralpe at Lake Plansee

Show dairy You get to experience, up close, a fundamental aspect of our rural culture in the recently opened alpine dairy in the Musteralpe at Lake Plansee. Right on site you get an insight into artisan cheese-making, at any time through a big glass wall. Those who are particularly ­interested can take part in a guided tour of the production facilities every Thursday at 10:00 a.m. and get ­information from tenant and dairyman Horst Meusburger about the ins and outs of cheese production – free of charge. You do of course get to sample the top-quality local product, enjoy it in various dishes or just buy it packed.

Creative handcraft workshop for kids

Children‘s workshop We – the ‘Werkhaus’ – are an accessible workshop in the centre of Reutte, providing access to the latest technologies including 3D printing and laser-cutting, as well as classic tools for wood, metal, textiles and much more.

In our children’s workshop in particular we promote artisan craft skills and creativity.

We potter about and craft using different materials, equipment and techniques. In alternating workshops our laser-cutter, saws, drill and other tools are used to build exciting items that you get to take home with you. A fantastic memento of your holiday in Tyrol.

Out and about in an enchanted riparian forest, set in a wild river landscape

Fluvial woodland safari Come with us on safari in an exceptionally rare natural gem and experience the ‘Auwald Jungle’ in Tiroler Lech Nature Park! Kitted out with binoculars we head out on a discovery tour together with our Nature Park guide.

Time and again this riparian softwood land has been flooded by the Lech, which deposits deadwood and sand, and fills hollows with water. The beaver too has arranged this habitat to suit its own needs, leaving behind fascinating tracks. With a bit of luck and patience you might even see the many other inhabitants of the Au, including various amphibians and birds. Tip: the birdwatching tower and the bird experience path tempt you to linger. Watch, learn interesting facts and listen to the birdsong.

A hike around Stuiben Waterfall Let yourself be whisked off to the dreamily beautiful waterfalls and pools beneath Plansee. The idyllically located Stuibenfall waterfall in the Reutte Nature Park region is a popular excursion destination for all ages and has so much to offer.

Hike with a guide from the Frauenbrünnele chapel to the Stuiben Waterfall. From the wonderful ‘pulpit’ ­viewing point you come to the ‘Ministersteig’ path, which brings you back to the starting point of this ­circular hike.

Ehrenberg Castle Ensemble

Guided tour of the castle ruins Ehrenberg offers everything you might expect from a medieval castle: high towers, fortified walls, a secret rock passage and plenty of history. Explore it all during an entertaining guided tour of this castle, which was founded in 1296.

Find out about its key strategic role through the cen­ turies and learn about the development of a medieval castle over the course of 500 years, as it became the biggest Baroque fortress complex in Tirol. As long as the castle has been in existence, it has been being ­developed. Exciting new finds have emerged during the latest restoration work too.
