Monday and Wednesday nights are Family Nights at Woodland West Pool.

Bring your family for an after-dinner swim. It’s the perfect way to have some fun and cool off on those hot summer nights! The Woodland West Pool will re-open after swim lessons for family swim time on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8 – 10 PM. Family Nights are $2.50 per person. One adult and one child are considered a family.

Friday nights are Family Nights at Hugh Smith Indoor Pool. Start your weekend off right by spending a night at the pool with your family!

Hugh Smith Indoor Pool will open for family swim time from 6 – 8 PM. Family Nights are $2.50 per person. One adult and one child are considered a family.

Dive into the Library Reading Club!

Each child who earns an Arlington Public Library reading club certificate will get a free swim pass, good for one free admission at any City of Arlington Pool, Mon-Thurs, between June 8 - August 9.

2013 Aquatics Season Pass holders can continue their splashing fun throughout September at Hugh Smith Indoor Pool.

Fee includes up to the maximum number of guests listed and a two hour rental. Seventy-two-hour notice is required to book an outdoor pool. Call (817) 459-5462 or (817) 459-5483 to rent an outdoor pool starting Monday, April 1. Changes or cancellations to pool reservations are subject to a $50.00 administrative fee.

Allen Bolden Pool is an L-shaped Olympic sized pool that meets the needs of virtually every swim enthusiast. The pool features diving boards, lap lanes and zero depth entry. Additional amenities include concessions, six shade structures and a large grass campus.

Bad Königshofen Family Aquatic Center offers a great value for the entire family. Features include an interactive spray pad, shallow water play pool, lap pool, diving area and two water slides (for riders over 48”). Other amenities include concessions, storage lockers, shower facilities, deck furniture and a shade pavilion.

The Randol Mill Family Aquatic Center offers something for all ages, including interactive elements such as a shallow water play structure, vortex pools, current channel, water slide (for riders over 48”), tot and leisure areas. Other amenities include two shade pavilions, shower facilities, deck furniture and concessions.

Woodland West Pool is a popular neighborhood pool that features shaded areas and grass. The back wall of the pool is elevated and is great place to jump off and make big splashes. The pool also features a large shallow end that is great for young children.

CITY OF ARLINGTON POOLS HELPFUL REGISTRATION HINTS

• Swim classes may reach maximum capacity quickly. Please remember to register early so you will not be disappointed. If your class is full, please allow us to put you on the waiting list. We will contact you as soon as possible if a spot becomes available.

• Students must meet the age requirements and prerequisite prior to the first day of the class that they are registered for.

• Parents, please allow yourself extra time on the first day of class for completing class release forms and to meet your child’s instructor.

• To ensure quality instruction and safety every effort is made to adhere to strict student-to-teacher ratios. Classes have a maximum enrollment of 4-8 students depending on the level.

Only those registered for classes will be allowed in the water while classes are in session.

INDOOR POOL

• Participants must be withdrawn from the class three days prior to the class start date to receive a refund, otherwise, the participant cannot be withdrawn and no refund will be given.

This is the City of Arlington’s only indoor aquatic facility and it serves a wide variety of needs for open swim, instructional programs, contract services and rental space. The pool is 25 yards in length and has five lap lanes.

Classes are offered mornings and evenings, Monday through Friday for two weeks. The American Red Cross Learn to Swim program includes parent/tot,

instruction LIFEGUARD TRAINING

Prerequisite: Must be at least 15 years old to enroll in this class and be able to swim a total of 300 yards, demonstrating freestyle and breaststroke. Must be able to swim 20 yards, submerge and retrieve a 10 lb. brick, return to the surface and swim 20 yards back to the starting point within 1 minute 40 seconds. Must be able to tread water for two minutes using legs only. Candidates successfully completing the class will be certified in Lifeguarding, Standard First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer.

WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR

Learning Objectives: Through classroom learning and hands on experience, the American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Course will help you learn how to teach people of all ages to swim and to be safe in and around water. Participants must be at least 16 years old.

PRIVATE LESSONS

Prerequisite: 25 yards freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke, elementary backstroke and 15 yards butterfly. All strokes must be performed at Level 4 skill level.

COST: $275

One-on-one instruction provides the fastest progress possible due to the undivided attention of the instructor and individual lessons planned to meet the child’s needs.

Private Swim Lessons are offered throughout the summer and are available at different times during each session. Fees are $100 per student for five 25-minute classes. Ready, Set, Guard! Junior Guard Class

Learning Objectives: Lifeguarding is a serious and rewarding job! Junior guard volunteers learn what it’s like to be a lifeguard and gain the skills necessary for future employment. You will receive basic water training and classroom type activities with interactive videos.

Prerequisite: Ages 12-15. You must have completed Level 5 swimming skills or demonstrate the ability to swim 100 yards, tread water for two minutes and submerge to a depth of at least eight feet. Call (817) 459-5462 for more information.

Junior Guard Mentoring Volunteer Program Learning Objectives: This is a two week mentoring program designed to teach and prepare Junior Guards to become Lifeguards. To apply for the program write a letter of interest to Maria Campbell, Aquatics Manager, at maria.campbell@arlingtontx.gov or call (817) 459-5461 for a mailing address. Limited spots are available and applicants will go through an interview process to determine if they will be selected.

SUN SAFETY

A sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 protects the skin from the sun. Apply one ounce of sunscreen (about the size of a ping pong ball) to all sun-exposed areas of the body. Don’t forget the ears, feet and behind the neck. Because sunscreen can take up to 30 minutes for full effect, it’s a good idea to apply it at home before you drive to the pool. When choosing a sunscreen, look for the words “broad-spectrum” on the label -- it means that the sunscreen will screen out both ultraviolet B (UVB) and ultraviolet A (UVA) rays. Don’t forget to re-apply after sweating or swimming.

It’s always a good idea to have a place where you and your family can find shade from the sun. Keep in mind the sun is strongest between 10 AM and 4 PM.
