Software you can trust
Software that turns barriers into engagement; with instant return on investment. It is a simple approach, but encouraging employees in the field to complete business compliance activities faster and more easily, whilst providing better outcomes, is the key to active workforce engagement and efficiency particularly in construction and related all industries.
Employees need an integrated approach of user-friendly tools to assist with all aspects of risk management, safety, quality, environment, training, inductions, contractor management, assets and plant management. This in turn provides businesses with widespread efficiencies not otherwise possible with stand-alone systems.
Skytrust’s Intelligence System allows exactly this.
Let’s see how it affects the entire workforce and the effectiveness of operations; starting on site. Traditionally these employees are the individuals who conduct the inspections, hazard reports, SWMS etc. They understand the importance yet don’t always get to appreciate the benefits delivered by software systems.
Here at Skytrust we wanted to develop a solution that could change this, by firstly making entry processes faster and more thorough than paper. By empowering these employees with access to relevant information at their fingertips; scanning a QR code on a piece of plant; completing inspections on a mobile device; having access to service records and operation manuals; they instantly gain a more efficient and effective way of carrying out their role.
From this point companies are able to continue with the simple monthly subscription, with no lock in contracts.
With the workers on site engaged, and having relevant information accessible management experience even greater oversight and productivity.
Suddenly, they have access to instant information, live data e.g. notifications and escalations when something doesn’t occur or get completed. This process enables them to more effectively manage employees, events, improvements, audits and training information on dashboards. It also means reports are instantly drillable, providing instant performance indicators of how operations are trending.
This information supports management expertise with a holistic integrated approach to the organisation’s compliance management across all aspects of their business. The vast array of workflow benefits driven from functions such as training and inductions, to performance appraisals, to QR coded employee IDs, all seamlessly flow and cascade. Designed to directly align with ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001. This approach has proven successful in any industry application.
The Skytrust application has been built to break all traditional barriers of software implementation with no large upfront costs. Our backing that this application will revolutionise your business rapidly is so strong, we offer companies a no obligation 3-month trial via skytrust.com.au, allowing customers to truly experience instant return on investment before making a decision.
At the end of the line, the individuals ultimately responsible for complete oversight to their legislative obligations are Executives and Directors. To assist this obligation, an instant due diligence benefit, regarding how their business is complying, is provided via the dashboard. Whilst this certainly is attractive for their peace of mind, it is the no obligation trial approach, with no expenditure barriers, that provide true appeal to savvy Executives and Directors, who have everything to gain and nothing to lose through trialling this system.
Skytrust has focused its software application to appeal to the needs and KPIs of entire site workforce; and aim for a no barriers implementation of their Business Risk Management Software: Skytrust.
Software that turns barriers into engagement; with instant return on investment.

New approaches to workplace safety
By Sam Jenkin Executive Director Health and Safety WorkSafe Victoria
One of the best parts of the Workplace Health and Safety Show is meeting people who are as passionate about protecting workers from harm as we are. People who strive to improve workplace safety, and who look at new and different ways of preventing injuries and deaths at work.
Improvement and innovation are key themes of WorkSafe’s ambitious new five year Strategy, which we launched in February.
Our aim is to reduce workplace deaths by 30 percent, workplace injuries by 20 percent, and improve return to work rates for injured workers by 10 percent.
Many will say that these targets are not ambitious enough; that no workplace injury is inevitable and no workplace fatality is acceptable.
I absolutely acknowledge that view.
But while we are committed to working with our partners and the Victorian community to drive those numbers towards zero, two hundred years of industrial experience tell us that injuries and fatalities do occur in workplaces.
To put it into raw numbers – and behind every number is a worker, a family, friends and work mates – the 2024 financial year saw approximately 35,000 Victorians injured seriously enough to make a workers compensation claim.
Twenty percent of 35,000 is 7,000.
To achieve a reduction in workplace injuries of 20 percent over five years, we need to strip at least 7,000 claims a year from our system. Imagine the benefits to our workplaces, our communities and our economy if we manage to do this.
One thing is for certain. We cannot keep doing the same things and expect to get different outcomes. We must do things differently.
Our new Strategy calls on us to review our safety operating model and how we do our work.
It calls on us to have the right capacity, skills and specialisation across industries where we see the largest number of injuries occur.
It calls on us to refine the way we coordinate our work, collaborating with other regulators and using different sources of data and intelligence to better target our efforts.
And it calls on us to further invest in supporting workplace consultation, knowing that workers and employers achieve better safety outcomes when they work together to identify and respond to risks.
Importantly, through this Strategy, we are publishing our first Statement of Regulatory Intent, a way in which we can be transparent with the Victorian community about where we are focusing our efforts.
We are considering the legislation and regulations the Parliament and Executive Government have issued to ensure we have the right tools in our regulatory kit to effect behavior change.
We continue to leverage the skills and knowledge of employer associations, unions and government.
And finally, we are improving how we engage with our partners and the Victorian community itself to drive better safety outcomes and get the change we need.
Events like the Workplace Health and Safety Show are a key part of that community engagement. WorkSafe has a stand at the show so please come and have a chat with our expert advisors and inspectors. They will happy to help and hear your ideas and perspectives.
You can also learn more about our new strategy by visiting worksafe.vic.gov.au/resources/worksafe-victoria-strategy Enjoy the show and stay safe.

The missing ingredient that could transform your workplace wellbeing strategy
Many wellbeing programs focus on physical health, EAP services, and resilience training, but without psychological safety, employees may not feel comfortable using these resources. Psychological safety creates an environment where employees can openly discuss stress, seek support, and engage in wellbeing initiatives without fear of stigma or repercussions. When organisations embed psychological safety into their culture, they unlock higher engagement, better mental health outcomes, and a more sustainable approach to workplace wellbeing.

Improvement Specialists: Who they are and why your business needs one
Organisations everywhere are facing a giant challenge. The world of work is evolving faster than ever, but so many companies are stuck in the mindset of “this is how we’ve always done it.”
Businesses are weighed down by rigid processes, compliance-driven routines, and a status quo begging for change.
According to SafetyCulture’s Feedback from the Field report, inefficient processes at work cost Australian workers an estimated 2.70 hours per week in lost time. In addition, 89% of Australian workers feel that health, safety, or quality leaders in their organisation could provide more value to them.
Among all of this, we’ve noticed a new type of leader emerging - the Improvement Specialist. They’re not keyboard warriors, managers or consultants. Improvement Specialists are the passionate changemakers within teams. They have natural skills that should be celebrated, and given platforms to flex their potential, which can drive significant benefits for their organisation.
What is an Improvement Specialist?
An Improvement Specialist is a proactive team member who drives efficiency, solves problems, and inspires others to achieve sustainable progress.
In many businesses, Improvement Specialists are the spark that ignites progress. Here’s what sets them apart:
‣ Deep operational insight: Improvement Specialists understand their organisation inside and out, from systems and tools to team dynamics and customer needs.
‣ Proactive problem-solvers: Improvement Specialists are relentless in turning challenges into actionable solutions. They take ownership, rally teams, and embed sustainable change.
‣ Natural leaders: Improvement Specialists don’t wait for a promotion to make a difference. They lead by example, motivate their co-workers to improve, and take ownership and action. They bring out the best in teams, turning ideas into group achievements.
‣ Technology-first: Improvement Specialists use technology to establish a flow of information that connects teams. They stay current on the latest tools and platforms and how they can be used to improve ways of working consistently.
These are the skills that build a blueprint for how to transform improvements from an idea into a repeatable, scalable improvement process.
Why every organisation needs Improvement Specialists
Traditional, top-down approaches to change are no longer effective. Thriving organisations today foster a culture where improvement is encouraged at every level.
Take Tremco Roofing as an example. Before Ro Lewis stepped in, safety checks were rigid and supervisorled. According to Joseph Lee, Tremco’s US Gulf States Manager, “In the past, we were pencil-whipping the guys, looking for mistakes. One of the biggest things I learned was how aware our guys were, but how afraid they were to say anything.”
Ro introduced a more inclusive approach, implementing a tool that encouraged frontline workers to participate in daily task analyses (DTAs), shifting them from passive rule-followers to active contributors.
The impact was immediate. Within days, management discovered that workers were manually carrying 11.5 kg buckets up ladders—an unsafe and inefficient practice. This led Vice President Mardee Billingsly to issue a company-wide directive apologising for the oversight and committing to new equipment and training. One worker even stated, “This is the first company I worked for where I know they’ve got my back. I know they listened to what we have to say.”
This transformation sparked a cycle of continuous improvement, where visibility led to action, action built trust, and compliance became more than a box-ticking exercise—it became a core part of company culture.
Cultivating Improvement Specialists in your organisation
Every organisation has potential Improvement Specialists. The key is to recognise and nurture them. Here’s how:
‣ Identify the changemakers: Look for employees who aren’t satisfied with “good enough” and are always finding ways to make things better.
‣ Offer training and certification: SafetyCulture’s free SafetyCulture Certified course helps employees build the skills they need to lead improvement initiatives.
‣ Empower through autonomy: Allow these individuals the space to experiment and take charge.
The future of continuous improvement
Continuous improvement offers a powerful framework for optimising processes, but many initiatives can fail when it comes to execution.
Organisations often face three key challenges: lack of stakeholder support, resistance to a culture of improvement, and tools or systems that don’t evolve alongside changing needs. Even when initiatives gain momentum, they can stall due to change fatigue, low employee engagement, or a status quo mindset. That’s why Improvement Specialists will drive the future of work. Improvement Specialists are the champions who turn daily work into extraordinary results. And their true superpower? Rallying teams around sustained progress, embedding change into the fabric of company culture, and ensuring progress isn’t just a oneoff effort but a continuous journey.
Imagine a workplace where every employee wakes up and asks, “What’s the most important thing I could improve today?” The answer to that question could change everything.

Optimising Task-Specific Personal Protective Equipment with 360applied®
Workplace hazards are common occurrences that can lead to costly injuries and illnesses. Selecting the correct personal protective equipment (PPE) and workwear is crucial in mitigating these risks and significantly reducing business expenses. Hazards such as mechanical, biological, chemical, heat, cold and abrasive surfaces are encountered in various workplaces. If these hazards cannot be eliminated, choosing the appropriate PPE can greatly minimise the risk of injury, ensuring the safe completion of tasks.
How the 360applied® system works
Standards & certification presentation
The mining, infrastructure, construction, and oil and gas industries are just a few of the industries that have seen and experienced the benefits of our brands, Force360®, Graphex®, TRu Workwear, and Bool Protective Technologies. 360applied has formalised this opportunity so that all businesses and industries across Australia can experience and understand the advantages and benefits of using our PPE range.
360applied’s site visit offers a compelling showcase of our PPE range, featuring our renowned cut demonstrations, through a streamlined presentation, which not only articulates the benefits but also simulates real-world scenarios of injuries resulting from inadequate PPE selection and usage. Our experienced specialists are equipped to conduct our unique cut demonstrations, facilitating direct comparisons of the performance of gloves currently in use on-site.
Complete site audit
The site audit is the single most important aspect of the program, conducted by our PPE Specialists through safety audit software, which will analyse, review and provide a full comprehensive report on the current PPE being used onsite and the risks present. The report will, where necessary, make recommendations to offer alternative products that will increase wearer safety, improve productivity, and offer solutions for potential issues, such as dexterity or comfort for the wearer. Furthermore, the report will look at current usages and expenditure in order to offer a PPE solution package that employees and the business itself can benefit from.
Key areas of the site audit include:
‣ In depth analysis of the application in situ, to gain an understanding of the PPE’s functions and requirements.
‣ Formalise mechanical, biological and chemical hazard identification to ensure appropriate protection levels to all relevant Australian Standards are always maintained.
‣ Employee Engagement – A critical component is to gain insight from the PPE wearer. Identification of current limitations and issues, along with potential improvements, is invaluable information.
‣ A risk analysis matrix is structured based on historical data, the potential severity of an injury, and its likelihood of occurrence. Then, appropriate hand protection recommendations can be made.
Product recommendations & trials
Once a site audit has been completed, 360applied® identifies and recommends PPE that can offer practical benefits and improved levels of safety to the wearer over the current gloves being used. Based upon the site audit data, relevant Australian Standards and key PPE features, the 360applied® PPE Analysis formally compares existing PPE with 360applied’s recommendations. Each feature and rationale behind the recommendations are explained clearly and offer a clear insight into the capabilities of the suggested products.
Training implementation & change management
360equipped® is a tailored training solution, including standards and product online modules, presentations, toolbox talks and cut demonstrations.
Training focuses on:
‣ Up-to-date training to the latest relevant Standards as soon as they are published.
‣ Product training to ensure use and allocation to task is accurate.
Regular program reviews
A tailored PPE Selection Chart is usually the initial development of 360applied’s ongoing employee engagement and training. The PPE Selection Chart can be updated and modified as applications or tasks change within a business and is often presented to employees during implementation.
Ongoing evaluation and review to ensure there are continued appropriate PPE solutions, as well as making sure the steps taken to increase safety have been effective. The review will be quarterly or as required.
This is also a key opportunity to plug in the 360processed program and ensure the end of life of the product is considered. Most of the products in our range can be recycled through this program ensuring they do not end up in landfill. Through this program we can report on and provide analytics around the positive environmental impact.

Seven critical errors to avoid in contractor and machinery mobilisation
Mobilising contractors and machinery effectively plays a critical role in determining the success of projects, with mistakes resulting in serious consequences. In this article, we explore seven common mistakes made when utilising contractors and their machinery that can derail projects and the strategies you can implement to avoid them.
Using manual processes
Relying on manual processes might seem manageable initially but as projects grow, the inefficiencies quickly become apparent. Manual methods are time consuming and prone to human error. Additionally, manual processes lack the capability to provide real-time updates, making it harder to adapt to project changes. Over time, these inefficiencies can hinder collaboration, slow decision-making and create bottlenecks, limiting your ability to scale with larger projects.
How to avoid it
Embrace technology to streamline operations. Digital tools and automated processes can save time, reduce errors and provide instant access to current information.
Inadequate
prequalification and onboarding processes
Rushing through or overlooking the prequalification and onboarding of contractors and their machinery can lead to significant issues. Contractors who aren’t adequately vetted may lack the skills or certifications required for the job, while their machines may have faults or could be non-compliant, increasing risks and potentially causing delays. Onboarding that doesn’t address site-specific safety protocols or expectations can lead to confusion and unsafe practices.
How to avoid it
Develop a robust prequalification process to verify contractors’ credentials, experience and compliance with regulatory requirements along with the safety status of their machines. Complement this with a detailed onboarding program that includes training, site orientation and clear communication of expectations. Automating parts of this process can ensure it’s both thorough and efficient.
Lack of contractor accountability
A lack of contractor accountability can create confusion and inefficiency on-site. Without clearly defined roles and responsibilities, contractors may be uncertain about their requirements or how their performance will be evaluated. This can lead to underperformance, missed deadlines and compromised safety standards. Moreover, without a system to track accountability, it can become difficult to address issues or measure success.
How to avoid it
Before contractors arrive on-site, outline their responsibilities and expectations in detail. Define measurable performance metrics and establish a system for regular check-ins to monitor their progress.
Inconsistent documentation
Poor documentation is more than just an administrative headache, it can lead to serious compliance and safety risks. When records are inconsistent or incomplete, it becomes challenging to track contractor compliance and maintain accurate audits. This can result in avoidable delays, penalties and reputational damage.
How to avoid it
Standardise your documentation processes across all projects to ensure consistency. Using digital document management systems can help streamline this process, reduce administrative workloads and ensure critical information is easily accessible.
Mistake 1
Mistake 2
Mistake 3
Mistake 4
Lack of contractor visibility throughout the project
Given contractors work across large or multiple sites of a project, it can be difficult to monitor their progress or ongoing compliance. Without proper visibility of their work and machines at any given time, projects can encounter coordination issues, delays and quality control problems. A lack of transparency also makes it harder to identify and address potential risks in real time.
How to avoid it
Invest in project management software that offers realtime updates and tracking of contractor activities. Also, establish clear communication channels and regular reporting schedules to maintain visibility and ensure alignment with project goals.
Contractor non-compliance with regulatory requirements
When contractors and their machinery don’t meet regulatory requirements, it can result in safety risks, financial penalties and legal action. Beyond the immediate impact, non-compliance can also harm your people and your company’s reputation, making it harder to secure future projects.
How to avoid it
Clearly communicate compliance requirements to contractors before work begins. Ensure contractor and machinery compliance through the prequalification and onboarding process to prevent non-compliant contractors from even arriving on site. Also conduct regular audits to ensure these standards are being met throughout the project.

Why Lone Worker safety should be a top business priority
Lone workers are a vital part of many industries, from healthcare and social professionals visiting patients at home to retail and hospitality staff facing clients alone. Yet, working alone presents unique risks that can lead to serious consequences if not properly managed.
The unique risks faced by lone workers
Unlike employees in supervised environments, lone workers often lack immediate support in emergencies. Whether facing a medical issue, an accident, or a security threat, they are at greater risk due to delayed response times. Some of the key risks include:
‣ Increased vulnerability to accidents: A technician repairing machinery in an isolated location could suffer a fall or an electric shock with no one nearby to assist.
‣ Exposure to violence and assault: Social workers and healthcare professionals working in people’s home, or retail staff handling cash or working night shifts, can be easy targets for aggression.
‣ Mental and emotional stress: Working in isolation can lead to anxiety, fatigue, and burnout, affecting productivity and job satisfaction.
Legal and business responsibilities
Under Australia’s Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act, businesses must ensure the safety of all employees, including lone workers. Failure to implement effective safety measures can lead to heavy penalties, legal action, and reputational damage.
Employers are required to:
‣ Conduct risk assessments to identify potential hazards for lone workers.
‣ Implement emergency procedures that ensure rapid assistance.
‣ Provide training and supervision to equip workers with the skills to handle high-risk situations.
‣ Offer personal protective equipment (PPE), such as a lone worker safety device, for immediate access to emergency support.
How prioritising lone worker safety benefits your business
Beyond compliance, prioritising lone worker safety positively impacts business performance and success:
‣ Enhances employee well-being: GPS-enabled devices and SOS alarms provide workers with a direct line to emergency services, giving them peace of mind.
‣ Boosts employee retention & morale: Workers who feel safe are more engaged and productive, reducing turnover and absenteeism.
workplace accidents, lowering compensation claims and potential lawsuits.
‣ Improves operational efficiency and productivity: Features like audio check-in with indoor verbal GPS recording and SOS alarms ensure workers are accounted for, tasks are completed safely, and emergency response times are minimised.
Invest in lone worker safety today
Lone worker safety is not just a regulatory requirementit’s an investment in your employees and your business. SafeTCard provides advanced safety solutions, including GPS enabled lone worker devices and 24/7 emergency response support, ensuring that every worker is protected, no matter where they are.

Key trends in Psychosocial Risk Management in 2025 and beyond
By
Georgi Toma Director Heart and Brain Works
Alaica Ranchez Communications Manager Heart and Brain Works
Psychosocial risk management is no longer an emerging issue—it is a core workplace priority. In 2025, organisations are likely to face increased regulatory scrutiny, evolving workforce expectations, and new risks driven by technology and globalisation.
Increased regulatory enforcement
WorkSafe NSW’s 2024-2026 Psychological Health and Safety Strategy has placed a clear focus on industries where psychosocial risks are high—including healthcare, education, and public administration. Large employers (200+ staff) are already under increased scrutiny, with more audits and investigations expected. Read more on WorkSafe website.
Victoria is also set to introduce new Psychological Health Regulations in December 2025. A Compliance Code will accompany the 2025 regulations, guiding employers in meeting their obligations. Additional government resources will help workplaces use prevention plans to identify and control psychosocial risks. The Government has indicated that the 2025 regulations are likely to be finalised in October 2025 and take effect on 1 December 2025.
What this means for organisations:
‣ Conduct comprehensive risk assessments
‣ Ensure preventative measures are in place
‣ Stay ahead of emerging compliance requirements
Legal precedents:
01 02 03
The rise of high-profile court cases
The legal landscape is shifting. In 2024, the Elisha v Vision Australia case resulted in a $1.4 million AUD payout after an employee suffered psychiatric injury due to a poorly handled termination process. The court cited contractual breaches, procedural unfairness, and a failure to intervene early.
Key learnings for all organisations:
• Contractual breach - Ensure that employment contracts and workplace policies are clearly followed. Any processes for termination, misconduct investigations, or risk management outlined in a contract must be strictly adhered to.
• Procedural fairness - Employees must be given a fair opportunity to respond to allegations or workplace concerns. A transparent, well-documented investigation process is critical to prevent claims of unfair treatment.
• Early intervention - Workplace issues should be addressed proactively, not reactively. Managers must document concerns early, provide feedback, and engage employees in solutions before situations escalate into legal disputes.
• Leadership training - Many legal risks arise because managers lack the skills to handle sensitive workplace issues effectively. Practical training in psychosocial risk management, difficult conversations, and procedural fairness is essential.
We expect the number of claims and complaints due to poorly managed psychosocial risk to increase as employees become more aware of their rights and regulators take a firmer stance.
What this means for organisations:
‣ Ensure fair and well-documented HR processes
‣ Train leaders in early intervention strategies, including psychosocial risk management and the skills needed to navigate difficult conversations. Leaders play a crucial role in identifying risks early, addressing concerns proactively, and fostering a psychologically safe workplace.
Technology: A double-edged sword
The rapid integration of artificial intelligence (AI), automation, and workplace surveillance tools is reshaping the modern workplace. While these technologies deliver improved efficiency, cost savings, and enhanced safety, they also introduce new psychosocial risks. Key risks include:
• Increased cognitive load
• Stress and anxiety due to productivity tracking, AI monitoring, and wearable devices that can create constant pressure and fear of being watched.
• Job insecurity
• Over-reliance on technology
What this means for organisations:
‣ Assess how digital transformation affects employees’ psychological well-being
‣ Implement ethical AI and surveillance policies
‣ Involve employees in decision-making around new technologies
Breaking silos: Integrating WHS and HR for better risk management
Traditionally, HR has managed issues like workplace bullying, harassment, and misconduct, while WHS teams have focused on compliance and safety policies. In 2025, organisations must break down these silos and adopt a unified approach to psychosocial risk management.
A disconnect between HR and WHS often leads to delays in risk identification, poor communication, and inconsistencies in handling complaints. This can increase legal risks and erode trust within the workplace.
What this means for organisations:
‣ Align reporting and investigation processes across HR and WHS
‣ Develop a clear strategy for managing psychosocial complaints
‣ Foster cross-functional collaboration to create safer workplaces
Evolving workforce demographics: Managing new challenges
The composition of the workforce is changing, bringing new psychosocial risks that require adaptive management strategies.
Key demographic shifts include:
• An ageing workforce - By 2050, 22% of workers will be over 60, increasing the need for awareness of age-related risk factors, such as chronic illness for example.
• Cross-generational teams - Up to five generations might be now working in the same teams, often with conflicting communication styles and workplace expectations
• Global and remote workforces - More teams are working across multiple time zones, leading to disrupted work-life balance and higher cognitive load
• The rise of hybrid work - While employees value flexibility, isolation and digital fatigue remain significant risks
What this means for organisations:
‣ Develop multi-generational leadership training
‣ Implement well-being initiatives for remote and hybrid teams
‣ Ensure psychosocial risks are addressed across all worker demographics
The Gig Economy: Addressing risks for non-traditional workers
The rise of freelancers, contractors, and gig workers presents new challenges for psychosocial risk management. Job insecurity, unpredictable workloads, and lack of workplace protections put these workers at greater risk of stress and burnout.
What this means for organisations:
‣ Acknowledge duty of care obligations for contractors and freelancers
‣ Provide access to mental health resources
‣ Implement fair and sustainable workload management

Leadership training: The key to preventing psychosocial harm
Managers play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with psychosocial regulations and having an engaged workforce. Many managers struggle to recognise psychosocial risks, navigate difficult conversations, and apply effective controls—resulting in unnecessary disputes, claims, and disengagement.
Training managers to identify and control psychosocial hazards should be on every organisation's agenda. We recommend choosing training that is practical, bespoke to your context and targeted at developing skills. If you would like to know more about our training in this area, contact us.
What this means for organisations:
‣ Invest in leadership training in psychosocial risk
‣ Focus on conflict resolution, communication, and procedural fairness
‣ Embed a culture of psychological health and safety from the top down. Don’t miss

Using ultrasonic sensors, Protective Shield can detect both overhead and shearing hazards, issuing alerts and automatically stopping movement to prevent operator entrapment.
‣ Full basket protection – Shields all occupants, unlike traditional crush bars.
‣ Smart sensor technology – Eliminates false alarms common in LIDAR-based systems.
‣ Customisable safety – Configurable detection settings for different machine types.
Protective Shield sets a new benchmark in MEWP safety, enhancing operator protection while maintaining productivity.

Why traditional hiring methods no longer work
By Guy Terkelsen Certified Partner / Physiotherapist
For over a decade as a physiotherapist and business owner, I’ve seen firsthand the consequences of poor hiring decisions. Too often, I was helping injured employees recover when the damage was already done. It became clear that preventing workplace injuries was far more effective than managing them after the fact, both for the employee and the employer.
Traditional hiring methods rely on physical capacity tests, gut-feel interviews, and reference checks. While these steps aim to filter out unqualified candidates, they overlook crucial factors like mental resilience, behavioural traits, and cultural fit. The result? High turnover rates, increased workers’ compensation claims, and escalating costs for businesses.
One in three workplace injury claims stems from reactivating a previous injury—an often-missed factor in conventional screening. It simply is impossible to spot on a resume.
That’s why FitWorker360 takes a different approach. Our data-driven system evaluates candidates holistically, considering physical, mental, and behavioural factors. Employers simply upload job roles, and candidates complete an in-depth online assessment, followed by a remote physical evaluation if needed. Results are delivered in just 22 hours.
The impact speaks for itself.
A leading NSW hospital reduced workers’ compensation premiums by 50% and saw a 55% drop in Lost Time Injury Rates over five years. Additionally one of our Aged Care sector clients saved $900,000 in insurance premiums— funds that can be reinvested in employee wellbeing and business growth.
Originally serving the health and aged care sectors, FitWorker360 is now gaining traction in retail and labour hire industries, where reducing turnover and injury risks is absolutely critical.
With workplace safety evolving to include psychosocial hazard management, businesses must adapt. By integrating comprehensive assessments like those offered by FitWorker360, employers can proactively identify and mitigate these risks, fostering a safer and more supportive work environment.
The message is clear: Traditional hiring is outdated.
A smarter, safer approach is here. Visit us at the WHS Show in Melbourne and discover the future of smarter hiring, safer workplaces and stronger teams with FitWorker360.

Drug and alcohol training 101
Research suggests that nearly 9% of workers report drinking while ‘on the job’, and 1% of workers use drugs while in the workplace.
Certain industries with a higher percentage of bluecollar workers (e.g., construction workers, electricians, mechanics and miners) may see a higher percentage of workplace drug and alcohol consumption.1
Drug and alcohol education/training within the workplace can be a very effective tool in ensuring your employees are well informed of the risks associated with workplace substance use, not just for themselves but also for their peers.
But what should such training include?
First off, consider educating workers about your drug and alcohol policy (and related procedures). Workers may often know the employer’s stance on drugs and alcohol in the workplace but may be uncertain of the workplace procedures in asking for assistance with misuse of drugs and/or alcohol, self-testing, or general drug and alcohol testing.
Consider educating employees on:
‣ What the company defines as unacceptable alcohol and drug use (making reference to the policy).
‣ The responsibilities of employees and employers regarding drug and alcohol testing.
‣ How the company will deal with long-term users versus one-off situations.
‣ The types of drug and alcohol testing available within the workplace (e.g., pre-employment testing versus random testing versus causal testing).
‣ The process for workers who take prescription medications that may affect drug and alcohol testing results and/or performance.
‣ The availability of treatment, counselling and rehabilitation services.
‣ The effects of alcohol and other drugs on employee health, safety and work performance.
General education regarding drug and alcohol use is recommended to be included. Workplaces with higher levels of drug and alcohol misuse may require training regarding coping strategies for stressors.
Workplaces may also consider additional training for managers and supervisors on how to appropriately identify and approach employees who may be under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Supervisors and managers can also benefit from training on how to refer employees to rehabilitation and support services.
To develop a workplace culture that restricts alcohol and drug-related harm, training should be regular, ongoing and adaptable to the ever-changing world of drug and alcohol use. Try to get your training to relate to other health and wellbeing initiatives; this will create a holistic method to develop a healthy and safe workplace!

Life Street: A better approach to employee assistance and wellbeing
By Paul Flanagan Founder & CEO Life Street
Hi! I'd like to introduce you to an innovative, proactive approach to employee mental health and wellbeing based on decades of experience.
A few years ago, after 20 years developing employee mental health programs, I was looking for a change.
I led a research project on workforce mental health and reviewed the common, mental health awareness and training initiatives, wellbeing apps, crisis line services and traditional Employee Assistance Programs (EAP). It became clear that while these initiatives are well intentioned, they have limited impact on mental health and wellbeing across an employee population.
So, the change I ended up making, was to go back to where I had been, to EAPs- to build a better, different type of EAP.
I brought together workplace mental health professionals, experienced clinicians and an expert technology team to build Life Street, the Proactive EAP®, integrating personalised mental health tools in a dynamic, digital ecosystem with accessible one on one services.
Life Street empowers all employees to manage their psychological and psychosocial wellbeing, along with proactive professional help to those that need it.
It’s been a long way from EAP as a reactive counselling service!
We now partner with WHS/HR across industries, from small organisations to global companies, proactively supporting the mental wellbeing of their employees.
Please reach out if you would like to chat and hear more about Life Street.
Regards, Paul

Why businesses need the right security measures to keep employees safe
Keeping employees safe is a top priority for businesses across all sectors, including transport, retail, and healthcare. Implementing robust security measures not only safeguards personnel; it also strengthens organisational resilience against potential threats. Technologies such as lone worker monitoring, 24/7 surveillance, and advanced access control systems have become indispensable components of comprehensive safety strategies for modern businesses.
Strengthening worker safety with technology
Employees who operate in isolation, without direct supervision or colleagues nearby, are inherently more vulnerable to risks. Lone worker technology helps mitigate this vulnerability by providing real-time monitoring and immediate response capabilities for workers in many sectors. Devices equipped with GPS tracking and emergency alert functions support swift assistance in case of incidents. For example, solutions like ADT FindU offer a comprehensive safety net for lone workers, continuously monitoring their wellbeing.
Continuous surveillance is critical in identifying and responding to security breaches or emergencies. For example, 24/7 monitoring systems combine a network of sensors and cameras with oversight by professional security personnel to detect unusual activities at any time. This constant vigilance deters potential intruders while supporting immediate action during emergencies, minimising potential harm to employees and assets.
Controlling entry to business premises is fundamental to protecting personnel and sensitive information. Advanced security systems use biometric scanners, keycards, or mobile credentials to limit access to specific areas for authorised individuals. This selective access mitigates the risk of unauthorised intrusions and enhances overall security. ADT’s access control solutions, for example, integrate with existing security frameworks to create a fortified barrier against unauthorised entry.
Compliance, confidence, and cost considerations
Meeting occupational health and safety regulations is both a legal requirement and a moral responsibility. Implementing appropriate security measures demonstrates a company’s commitment to employee welfare and compliance with relevant legislation. Failure to provide adequate protection can lead to legal repercussions and damage to the company’s reputation, making it one of the most important things for a business to invest in.
A secure and safe work environment also boosts employee confidence and morale. Staff productivity and job satisfaction are positively impacted when workers are assured of their safety, particularly those working in isolation or high-risk areas.
Investing in advanced security technologies signals to employees that their wellbeing is a priority, strengthening organisational culture and loyalty.
Some businesses hesitate due to the upfront cost of advanced security systems; however, the long-term benefits far outweigh the initial expense. Preventing incidents that could lead to injury, legal liabilities, or operational disruptions helps businesses save significantly. Insurance premiums may also be lower for those that demonstrate proactive risk management through comprehensive security measures.
Future-proofing security investments
Modern security solutions offer scalability and customisation to meet the unique needs of various businesses. Systems can be tailored for businesses of all sizes to address specific vulnerabilities and operational requirements. This flexibility keeps security measures effective and efficient, providing optimal protection without unnecessary complexity.
The evolution of security technology continues to enhance protective capabilities. Innovations such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and the Internet of Things (IoT) have introduced sophisticated tools for threat detection and response. Staying ahead of these advancements helps businesses continually strengthen their security posture and adapt to emerging challenges.
However, advanced security systems must be complemented by comprehensive training programs for the best results. Employees should be educated on the proper use of security technologies and protocols to maximise their effectiveness. Regular drills and awareness campaigns reinforce the importance of security measures and prepare staff to respond appropriately in emergency situations.
Partnering for success
Selecting a reputable security provider is essential for building a reliable safety infrastructure. ADT Security offers a range of products and services designed to meet diverse security needs. Working with an experienced vendor provides access to quality equipment, professional installation, and ongoing support to maintain the integrity of security systems.
As threats evolve, security strategies must evolve too. Investing in technologies that support updates and integration with future innovations keeps security measures effective over time. This forward-thinking approach protects current assets and personnel while positioning organisations to adapt to emerging security challenges.
Implementing strong security measures is essential for protecting workers. Technologies such as lone worker monitoring, 24/7 surveillance, and advanced security systems help businesses create a safer environment, meet legal requirements, and strengthen organisational resilience.
Managing psychosocial safety at work
Building mentally healthy workplaces with Black Dog Institute
Employee mental health is an important issue in organisations of all sizes. Mental ill health comes at a significant individual, social and economic cost to businesses. In 2020/21, the median time lost to work-related psychological injuries was more than four times that of all physical injuries and illness.
Understanding psychosocial risk
Research shows that there are specific workplace factors that can create poor mental health outcomes, otherwise known as psychosocial hazards. The term psychosocial risk refers to the likelihood of these hazards causing harm.
While workplaces do present psychosocial hazards, they also have a unique opportunity for intervention. Understanding what workplace factors may represent potential hazards (and the associated risk of these hazards) is an important step towards building better mental health at work.
Creating a mentally healthy workplace benefits everyone. From an organisational perspective, it can increase productivity and engagement. For an individual, it means a healthy, balanced life and psychological wellbeing.
While there is now greater awareness among workplaces of the need for psychosocial safety, the challenge can lie in how to create it.
At Black Dog Institute, a global leader in mental health research, we offer a range of training workshops, eLearning programs and presentations for workplaces that are backed by research and delivered by experts.
As the only Medical Research Institute to investigate mental health from childhood through to later stages in life, we translate research into practical, evidence-based solutions to create real change that improves mental health outcomes.

Strategies to stay ahead: Data-driven insights & proactive risk management
In today's rapidly evolving workplace environment, the importance of proactive risk management and data-driven insights cannot be overstated. Organisations are increasingly recognising that moving beyond reactive approaches to safety is essential for fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence. Drawing from recent analyses and industry trends, this editorial explores strategies for Work Health and Safety (WHS) teams aiming to stay ahead in 2025.
Reflecting on 2024: Lessons learned
A retrospective analysis of safety trends from the last quarter of 2024 emphasises the importance of understanding past incidents and near-misses, not as isolated events, but as cumulative information that reveals systemic issues within industries. By considering these patterns, WHS professionals can identify contributing factors and implement corrective actions from a data set that extend beyond their own organisation. This allows for stronger mitigation strategies and continuous improvement that is greater than an organisation could learn from internal data alone.
Anticipating challenges in 2025
Looking ahead, WHS teams must predict emerging risks and challenges that 2025 may present. This forwardthinking approach involves staying abreast of industry developments, technological advancements, and evolving regulatory landscapes. By forecasting potential hazards, organisations can devise strategic plans to mitigate risks before they materialise, ensuring a safer and more resilient work environment.
Harnessing data for proactive safety
Transitioning from reactive to proactive risk management necessitates effective data utilisation. Timely and accurate data collection is crucial for identifying hazards before they escalate into incidents. Implementing robust data collection and analysis systems enables early detection of risks, allowing organisations to intervene proactively and avert potential accidents. Although reactive in nature, effective investigations offer an essential tool for organisation to identify learnings that feed into proactive measures and drive change to reduce the likelihood of future incidents.
Communicating value to leadership
Translating safety data into tangible value for both operational teams and executive leadership is critical. Data-driven insights can inform strategic decisionmaking, optimise resource allocation, and enhance overall organisational performance. Effectively communicating the return on investment (ROI) of proactive risk management to senior executives not only secures necessary support but also reinforces the integral role of WHS in achieving business objectives.
All too often communication is the headwind or tailwind that fuels effective change from leadership. Giving the time, education and opportunity to improve communication practices of your safety team, managers and leaders can pay dividends across an organisation’s safety performance.
Spotting emerging hazards early
The ability to identify emerging hazards before they result in incidents is a hallmark of a proactive safety culture. Methodologies for trend spotting and risk assessment enable organisations to leverage data analytics to stay ahead of potential threats. By adopting such proactive measures, companies can mitigate damage, protect their workforce, and maintain operational continuity.
Insights from ICAM investigations
Effective ICAM (Incident Cause Analysis Method) investigations provide valuable insights into system gaps and allow organisations to identify where high impact changes can be made to improve safety practices. These real-world examples are incredibly valuable as they uncover systemic weaknesses and allow for targeted interventions that can easily be missed with surface level investigations. Understanding how an organisations systems allowed failures to occur instead of simply what occurred is essential to making impactful changes. Organisations that embrace ICAM principles are better equipped to foster a culture of continuous improvement and resilience.
Practical steps for WHS teams
For WHS professionals aiming to embed proactive risk management into their organisational culture there are three high return strategies to consider:
1. Investing in and utilising advanced data analytics tools to better draw insights from the data and trends that you already have.
2. Fostering open communication channels and directly encouraging hazard reporting to drive cultural change and gather real world information.
3. Upskilling workers, managers, and leaders on effective communication strategies to ensure that safety insights are accurately understood by leadership.
By focussing on these high leverage areas, WHS teams can drive meaningful improvements and cultivate a workplace environment where safety is paramount.
Conclusion
Embracing proactive risk management and datadriven insights is not merely aspirational but essential for effective safety strategies. Organisations that adopt these principles are poised to navigate the complexities of the modern work environment, safeguard their employees, and achieve sustained success. Safety is a journey of continual improvement which takes decisions, dedication and direct. Consider what we have discussed can help steer your organisation in the right direction.

Excellence in industrial cleaning and excavation
In the world of industrial cleaning and excavation, KOR stands out as the exclusive distributor of Gerotto in Australia and New Zealand.
Gerotto, renowned for its remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), revolutionises safety and productivity. By keeping operators away from high-risk zones like tank cleaning, confined spaces, and pipelines, Gerotto ensures 24/7 efficiency, reducing the hazards of injury or fatigue. Whether it’s the Gerotto Lombrico or other advanced models, KOR delivers unmatched safety and efficiency in industrial operations and equipment.
Lombrico S no-man entry robot:
The new level of safety
Lombrico S is a hydraulic, remotely operated robot specifically designed for vacuuming any type of material found in high-risk confined spaces such as inside refineries, steel plants, tank terminals, biogas plants, and industrial plants (including options for classified dangerous goods).
This innovation has been developed by Gerotto, an Italian company which has pioneered the design and production of remote operated vehicles for over twenty years.
Lombrico S is a compact robot – capable of entering into 600 mm manholes (The standard dimensions for manhole sizes in Australia and New Zealand typically involve a 600 mm by 600 mm opening.
Additionally, there are choices available to accommodate more compact entry requirements, such as the Lombrico XXS version designed specifically to fit through a 450 mm manhole) – that replaces the need of manual labour for heavy-duty tasks and operating in hazardous areas such as where there is flammable gases or dust.
How does the robot work and what can it vacuum?
The Lombrico S is a hydraulic system, mounted on antistatic or magnetic rubber tracks and driven by a power unit with either a diesel or electric motor. Gerotto boast a range of various supplementary features available to enhance the task performance.
These include a secure CCTV System with cameras, monitors, LED Lighting, a remote control kit with a transmitter which is facilitated through a control unit equipped with monitors, radio controls, and joy sticks.
The Lombrico S is connected to the control unit by hydraulic hoses that control the movements of the machine and any accessories. This suction hose is positioned between the tracks, and has a range of diameters varying from 80 to 250 mm.
It is connected to a Cappellotto vacuum truck and can reach up to a distance of 100 m from the suction point. Through this combination of the robot and a Cappellotto vacuum truck, materials such as sludge, slurry, dust, and other residues present inside places such as tanks, food silos, and pipelines can be removed.
The Lombrico S along is also capable of vacuuming contaminated soil that is under pipelines and conveyor belts in mines or other industries. Other applications include culvert cleaning and water blasting with high pressure flow.
Accessories: One robot for multiple applications
There is an extensive range of frontal accessories, meaning the Lombrico S can be used for many different applications. For example, using an accessory such as the auger system breaks down hardened materials, while the squeegee system can clean horizontal surfaces due to perfectly fitting spatulas that open and close automatically.
There are high-pressure 360°orientation nozzles that liquefy materials which facilitates suction, and the flow rate levels can be adjusted depending on the application requirements. There is also equipment available such as gas detectors, inclinometers and other sensors that provide complete, real-time control of the robot as part of the range.
International certification
Gerotto’s Robotic Business Unit based in Germany has commenced the process of achieving international IECEx certification (alongside its currently ATEX certification) of the robotic systems for cleaning tanks inside refineries and tank terminals. It is anticipated this will be completed in the first half of 2024.
Not only will this lead to stronger penetration in the oil and gas markets but continues to support Gerotto’s focus on operator safety and improving the working conditions of the operators.

Future proof your business with ChemAlert
In today’s complex regulatory environment, ticking boxes for compliance is no longer enough. With increasing scrutiny from boards, investors, and the community, organisations must go beyond mere adherence to legislation—they must build trust. RMT Global’s ChemAlert is designed to help you do just that, transforming your approach to chemical management into one that is both proactive and future-proof.
Beyond compliance: Building true trust
Most companies have entire teams devoted to ensuring regulatory compliance. They work hard to meet the standards set by the Globally Harmonised System (GHS) and Work Health and Safety (WHS) regulations (or your region’s equivalent). However, being compliant only represents the bare minimum. It doesn’t necessarily mean that the chemicals you’re using are the safest choices available or that your organisation is seen as truly trustworthy.
Consider this: just because a chemical is legally approved doesn’t mean it’s the right fit for your business. Replacing a hazardous chemical with another that meets only the minimal regulatory standards might pass the legal test, but it could still fail the public “pub test” if it poses hidden risks. In fact, a company operating solely from a compliance perspective might inadvertently cause harm—be it physical, reputational, or financial—even when following the law.
The compliance shortfall
Compliance is, without doubt, essential. It’s the foundation upon which safe operations are built. Regulations exist to protect employees, the environment, and the broader community. Yet, these rules are updated slowly, and they often reflect the minimum requirements needed to stay on the right side of the law. A historical example is the drug Thalidomide, which was only banned months after it became clear that it caused severe birth defects. This delay meant that companies adhering strictly to compliance could have inadvertently contributed to widespread harm.
Moreover, compliance doesn’t always catch when manufacturers make misleading claims. Take the case of e-cigarettes: even though some products are marketed as safer due to a lower nicotine content, they can still contain other harmful chemicals. When penalties were eventually levied against misleading claims, it became clear that relying on compliance alone leaves gaps—gaps that can be bridged by making decisions based on independently verified, evidencebased information.
ChemAlert: Bridging the gap between compliance and trust
This is where ChemAlert makes all the difference. ChemAlert is not just a tool for ensuring compliance—it’s a comprehensive chemical management solution that empowers your organisation to take a proactive stance on chemical safety. By providing a real-time, easily accessible inventory of every chemical in use, ChemAlert ensures that you know exactly what substances are present in your operations. But it doesn’t stop at inventory management.
ChemAlert goes further by integrating independently verified data on each chemical’s potential impacts. This evidence-based approach means you’re not relying solely on manufacturers’ assurances or outdated regulatory minimums. Instead, you’re making decisions grounded in the latest scientific research and regulatory updates. This level of scrutiny helps you avoid pitfalls— like replacing a known risk, such as Bisphenol A, with a similar chemical that may be just as harmful but less well understood.
Proactive harm reduction: The trust imperative As environmental, social, and governance (ESG) requirements continue to tighten, companies are increasingly expected to act responsibly not only in the eyes of regulators but also in the court of public opinion. Building trust means being transparent, using robust evidence for decision making, and consistently reviewing your chemical management practices. A company that exemplifies trust in its chemical strategy will:
‣ Maintain a comprehensive chemical inventory: Always know what chemicals are in use with an up-to-date, easily accessible database.
‣ Use independently verified information: Make decisions based on substantiated evidence and not just on manufacturers’ claims.
‣ Stay current with the latest data: Regularly update your practices in line with the latest scientific findings and regulatory changes.
‣ Engage in proactive harm reduction: Identify potential risks early and take steps to mitigate them before they evolve into major issues.
‣ Future proof your business
In a rapidly evolving landscape, relying solely on compliance can leave your organisation exposed to unforeseen risks. ChemAlert is designed to help you transition from a reactive to a proactive chemical management strategy—one that not only meets regulatory requirements but also builds the trust of employees, customers, and the broader community.
By integrating ChemAlert into your operations, you’re ensuring that every decision is backed by solid, up-todate evidence. You’re not merely following the rules; you’re setting them. This proactive approach not only minimises risk but also enhances your company’s reputation as a safe, responsible, and forward-thinking organisation.
Trust and compliance should work hand in hand. While compliance lays the groundwork, it is proactive, evidence-based decision making that truly protects your business, employees, and community. With ChemAlert, you’re future proofing your business by moving beyond the checklist mentality to embrace a comprehensive, transparent approach to chemical management. Make the smart choice today—build trust, ensure safety, and secure your organisation’s future with ChemAlert.

Uplift financial wellbeing with The Money Collective
Enhance Employee Health and Safety Through Financial Empowerment
In today’s dynamic work environment, a truly healthy workplace goes beyond physical safety and mental health—it includes financial wellbeing. With 34% of working Australians identifying financial stress and the cost-of-living crisis as their top concern, traditional wellbeing programs no longer suffice.
Founded by industry experts Darlene Neu and Mel Pearce, The Money Collective brings over 50 years of combined experience in banking, finance, and financial wellbeing coaching. Their mission is to partner with proactive HR leaders and People and Culture teams to uplift financial health.
A comprehensive 12 step approach
The Money Collective’s unique 12 Step Financial Wellbeing Program offers a holistic solution blending psychological insights, behavioural strategies, and practical money management tools. Designed to empower employees, it can also be accessed in an online course.
Build a financial wellbeing strategy in your organisation
The Money Collective developed a 5-step guide for HR Managers and People and Culture Leaders to transform their corporate wellbeing program into one that makes a lasting, measurable impact. This guide provides actionable strategies to identify and address gaps in current wellbeing programs, seamlessly integrate financial wellbeing, track effectiveness, and secure executive support. Get your copy of this 5-step guide at: themoneycollective.com.au
Whether delivered as a one-off Introduction to Financial Wellbeing Workshop or as part of a three-year, integrated strategy, their program can be tailored to suit any workplace setting. A phased approach may include a dedicated wellbeing focus week, regular topic-based workshops, and group coaching sessions. This not only tackles immediate financial stress but also builds longterm resilience by embedding healthy money habits into company culture.
Delivering a financial wellbeing program
Darlene Neu highlights the importance of targeting specific groups that research shows are more vulnerable to financial stress. For example, women facing relationship challenges, young professionals, those approaching retirement, and employees already accessing EAP services can greatly benefit from tailored financial wellbeing initiatives.
“Employees saving to buy a home or paying off a current mortgage would benefit from a Home Loans Unpacked Workshop, all about how to understand, optimise, and borrow smart.”
Darlene further details how employees planning to take, or currently on, parental leave would benefit from a workshop about How to Build Financial Resilience, creating choice and a backup plan, as well as the Kids and Money Workshop, because financial wellbeing starts early. Topic-based workshops provided by The Money Collective also include the Psychology of Money Workshop, uncovering personal money stories and addressing financial behaviour, and Spending with Purpose, which explores how to build financial capability.
If you could only fund one wellbeing initiative, it would be financial wellbeing.

Towa's technologies & features
NanoFinish™
New exclusive coating technology for magnificent dry grip, with enhanced durability and flexibility, while also lessening environmental impact.
NanoFinish™ is Towa Corporation's latest coating technology innovation, delivering incredible dry grip, great flexibility, and durability.
Following the concept of our exclusive MicroFinish® coating technology, a soft compound with thousands of microscopic pockets that act as suckers when in contact with a surface, NanoFinish™ further increases the number of pockets and reduces their size to create a flatter surface for better friction, resulting in incomparable dry grip.
One of our key objectives during our research was to be able to offer an excellent dry grip even with nitrile coating, while enhancing the flexibility of the compound. By developing a new formula, we succeeded in creating an extremely soft and highly flexible nitrile coating, reminiscent of latex.
Another goal was to improve the durability of the two most important aspects: the coating and the grip performance. The new NanoFinish™ nitrile formula allows us to manufacture a coating with abrasion resistance levels far higher than those of similar gloves, greatly improving the durability of ours.
In order to achieve a long-lasting grip performance, the NanoFinish™ creates pockets in the coating that are so small that dirt, soil, or sawdust do not get stuck inside them, which would reduce their suction power.
The gloves can as such maintain the same level of grip throughout their usage.
Towa Corporation is focused on manufacturing more environmentally friendly gloves, and NanoFinish™ is the result of a complete revision of the manufacturing process of our coating solutions, resulting in a drastic reduction of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted, and in some cases, entirely VOC free gloves. Available today in nitrile or latex coating, the NanoFinish™ technology is being applied to our MagneX™ gloves series, an ever-growing series of highquality gloves aiming to cover all the needs of the industry.
MicroFinish®
Industry leading coating technology delivers unparalleled grip performance for dry, wet and oily material surfaces.
Towa Corporation has developed gloves that prioritize safety, comfort, and superior grip, with MicroFinish® technology as a key feature. This revolutionary coating enhances grip by increasing friction between the glove and surface, even when liquids are present. Unlike traditional gloves with stiff compounds and rough surfaces that reduce contact, MicroFinish® uses a soft, flexible material with microscopic pockets. These pockets act like suckers, absorbing and dispersing liquid, allowing more of the glove's surface to make direct contact with the material. This results in up to 100% better friction and a significantly reduced effort to maintain grip, even on oily or wet surfaces. MicroFinish® has become an industry leader, offering unmatched performance in reducing fatigue and improving safety.
No Thru Temporary Fence: A stronger, more secure solution for construction sites
Construction sites require strong, reliable security to protect workers, materials, and equipment. However, traditional temporary fencing often falls short due to weak connection points, stability issues, and vulnerability to tampering. No Thru Temporary Fence is engineered to solve these problems with its innovative, clamp-free interlocking design—creating a stronger, more secure perimeter for your construction site.
The problems with traditional temporary fencing
Most temporary fencing systems rely on metal clamps and external fasteners to connect panels together. While this may seem effective, it creates several issues:
‣ Clamps are easy to tamper with – Clamps can be loosened or removed, allowing unauthorised individuals to dismantle the fence and gain access to the site.
‣ Weak connection points – Clamped connections are often the weakest parts of the fence, making them prone to failure in high winds, heavy impacts, or uneven terrain.
‣ Frequent maintenance & replacement – Clamps and bolts can break, go missing, or rust over time, leading to ongoing maintenance costs and potential security risks.
‣ Shifting and instability – Traditional fences are often wobbly or misaligned because they depend on individual panel connections rather than a fully integrated system.
The No Thru solution: Interlocking panels for maximum security
No Thru Temporary Fence eliminates these weaknesses by using an advanced interlocking system instead of clamps. Our panels connect directly, forming a solid, continuous structure that is far more secure and reliable than traditional fencing.
Key advantages of No Thru Temporary Fence
‣ Tamper-resistant design – Without clamps or external fasteners, there are no weak points that intruders can manipulate.
‣ Enhanced stability – The interlocking connection distributes force evenly across the entire fence, making it more resistant to wind, impact, and shifting ground conditions.
‣ More secure – With defined access points decided at the beginning of the project the site manager has full control of the site.
A smarter choice for long-term site security
By removing the weaknesses of traditional fencing and replacing them with a smarter, more secure design, No Thru Temporary Fence provides a superior solution for construction site security.

Addressing common workplace safety challenges with Portwest workwear
While we think Australia is the greatest country in the world, it’s not without its share of safety hazards. Extreme heat, rugged landscapes, and unpredictable weather conditions mean many businesses face significant workplace safety challenges.
Equipping your team with the right workwear can go a long way in addressing these risks.
Just ask Greenworx, a Sydney-based landscaping company that specialises in a variety of outdoor management services across commercial facilities, sporting fields, and national parks.
Given the nature of their work, landscapers are prone to overexertion, can be hit by moving objects, and often experience extreme weather conditions, making safe and durable workwear a necessity.
“All of our activity happens outdoors, so it’s important that we help our staff continue to do their job safely, all year round,” says Greenworx Co-Director, John Kalocsai. “We can’t afford for anyone to be injured or overheat at work. It’s a non-negotiable.”
"It made sense for us to team up with Portwest; a supplier that ensures their product complies with all safety standards, particularly with the PPE available and the durability of their workwear.”
Stay sun safe with Portwest
But don’t just take our word for it. Findings from Safe Work Australia show the permanent and irreversible damage that sun exposure can cause to the skin and eyes.
“We choose Portwest because it’s a supplier that maintains the standards in their uniforms and backs their product for sun and skin protection. We’re out in the elements every day, so we don’t want to be using something that’s inferior,” says John.
Portwest’s technically designed and durable workwear can withstand the elements, particularly in the harsh Australian sun. All workwear is compliant with AS 4399 UPF30 industry standards, blocking out 96.7% of UV rays.
Helping to avoid injury
Beating the heat is one thing, but working outdoors in a physically strenuous environment also means an inevitably higher risk of injury.
For the team at Greenworx, the risk of flying objects is an everyday occurrence. Portwest workwear is designed with the optimal blend of form and functionality in mind, to keep workers safe.
Portwest’s eye protection range is compliant with the AS/NZS 1337.1 Australian standard to protect from flying particles and fragments.
When it comes to footwear, Portwest’s BASE Protection range combines technology and functional requirements in protecting against all hazards, including flying objects. The BASE Fortrex boots are punctureresistant for up to 3mm, making them Portwest’s toughest boot yet for protecting against injury.

Leveraging Riskware, to report incidents and stay compliant, across 60 locations
Industry Healthcare Challenge
Capitol Health, a network of medical imaging practices, needed a better risk management system to collect and analyse incident data. Their previous system was inefficient and not user-friendly, leading to underreporting.
Results
Riskware streamlined incident reporting and made it accessible through their mobile application. This resulted in increased incident reporting and improved data analysis, enabling Capitol Health to make informed decisions, enhance patient safety and stay compliant.
About Capitol Health
Capitol Health, a leading provider of diagnostic imaging services, boasts a remarkable track record of completing over 1.2 million procedures annually. This impressive volume is made possible by a dedicated team of more than 1,000 staff members, including a highly skilled group of over 100 radiologists. The organisation's commitment to excellence and its extensive network of facilities enable it to deliver high-quality diagnostic imaging services to a large number of patients each year.
The challenge
With more than 1,000 staff across the country, Capitol Health's risk team found the information they were receiving inadequate. It was important to gather information on incidents and make it reportable, from anywhere. Their existing system was cumbersome, leading to underreporting of incidents and hindering data-driven improvements.
The healthcare sector operates under stringent governance frameworks, necessitating the meticulous collection and analysis of incident data. This practice is not merely a matter of compliance; it serves as the bedrock for ongoing enhancements within healthcare organisations. By scrutinising incidents, healthcare providers can identify systemic vulnerabilities, pinpoint areas for targeted interventions, and ultimately cultivate a culture of safety and continuous improvement. This data-driven approach empowers healthcare organisations to proactively mitigate risks, optimise patient care, and foster an environment where the wellbeing of both patients and staff is paramount.
The solution
Capitol Health partnered with Pan Software to utilise the configurability of Riskware, a user-friendly incident reporting platform accessible via a mobile app. The platform streamlined reporting and data collection, making it easier for staff to report incidents and for the risk team to analyse trends.
The implementation of Riskware led to a significant increase in incident reporting, providing Capitol Health with valuable insights to improve patient safety and operational efficiency. The user-friendly interface and mobile accessibility encouraged broader staff participation in incident reporting. The improved data analysis enabled Capitol Health to make informed decisions and implement targeted interventions.
The results
Within six months, Capitol Health leveraged incoming incident data to enhance patient information forms, improving communication and patient awareness. These meaningful changes were demonstrable to the board, clinic staff, and all levels of the organisation responsible for enhancing safety and overall improvement.
Key benefits
‣ Increased incident reporting
‣ Improved data analysis and insights
‣ Enhanced patient safety
‣ Streamlined risk management processes

Using AI to identify emerging safety trends in the workplace with Evotix
Every day, health and safety professionals grapple with how to stay ahead of hazards and risks. Traditional safety management methods often rely on manual reporting and reactive measures, which can make it harder to spot trends and address issues early. This is where artificial intelligence (AI) steps in as a game-changer for EHS.
Businesses now have tools capable of analysing massive amounts of data to detect patterns and highlight potential hazards before they escalate into serious incidents.
A digital transformation
For years, businesses have relied on reactive safety strategies using incident reports and post-accident investigations to make improvements. While these methods address immediate issues, they often miss the root causes or recurring patterns behind risks. AI transforms this approach by continuously analysing data in real time, allowing organisations to prevent problems before they escalate. This proactive strategy improves both H&S processes and operational efficiency.
Unlike traditional methods that rely on human analysis, AI processes vast amounts of information, such as incident reports, equipment sensors and training records, to detect anomalies and predict hazards. This helps organisations uncover risks that might otherwise remain hidden.
Avoid the compounding effects of incidents
Accidents often set off a chain reaction that goes beyond immediate harm. Lost productivity from injured workers, operational disruptions and temporary shutdowns can significantly strain a business. Add legal fees, regulatory penalties and rising insurance premiums, and the costs quickly escalate. Leveraging AI to identify trends early allows businesses to address risks proactively and avoid these ripple effects.
Strengthen employee trust and engagement
When workers see their organisation taking proactive steps to improve health and safety, it builds trust and fosters engagement. Using AI-driven tools demonstrates a commitment to employee well-being by identifying and addressing safety issues. This shows that health and safety isn’t just a priority; it’s a core value.
Optimise operational workflows
Safety and efficiency are closely connected. AI-driven insights help streamline workflows by pinpointing bottlenecks, automating routine tasks and identify inefficiencies that create delays or waste resources. Addressing these operational challenges leads to a more efficient, productive and resilient workplace.
Getting started with AI in your workplace
Transitioning to an AI-driven approach may seem challenging, but it’s manageable with the right strategy.
Audit your current system
Step 1
Begin by assessing how your organisation currently manages safety data and processes. This step helps you identify gaps and opportunities where AI can add value.
‣ Evaluate Incident Reporting: Ensure all incidents and near misses are logged accurately and consistently. Incomplete data can hinder AI’s ability to identify patterns.
‣ Analyse Data Accessibility: Is your data stored in a way that AI tools can easily process it? Scattered or siloed data may require consolidation into a unified system.
‣ Identify Gaps in Monitoring: Look for areas where you’re not tracking important health and safety metrics, such as equipment maintenance logs or worker fatigue levels.
Invest in AI-driven tools
Step 2
Selecting the right tools is critical. AI solutions should not only meet your current needs but also grow with your organisation as your processes evolve.
‣ Integration Capabilities: Look for tools that work seamlessly with your existing software to minimise disruption.
‣ Scalability: Choose solutions that can handle increased data as your business grows or diversifies.
‣ Ease of Use: Tools with intuitive interfaces and straightforward workflows encourage adoption among your team.
Train your team
Step 3
Proper training ensures employees understand the benefits of AI and feel confident using it.
‣ Emphasise Collaboration: Explain how AI supports human expertise, rather than replacing it. Highlight its role in reducing repetitive tasks and enabling smarter decision-making.
‣ Provide Hands-On Training: Interactive sessions can help employees grasp how to use the platform effectively.
‣ Encourage Feedback: AI is most effective when it has access to previously reported data. Encourage employees to actively submit incidents, near misses and accidents to build a database that AI can reference and use for predictive insights.

Early Intervention in Mental Health: AI's transformative role in the workplace
By Dr Simon Kinsella B.Sc(Hons), PhD, FAPS, FCCLINP, GAICD Director and Clinical Psychologist, CP Consulting Director and CSO, Mesh Health/Simpatico Ai
For over 30 years, I've witnessed the profound impact of delayed mental health intervention. Employees often wait until crisis strikes, leading to absenteeism, reduced productivity, and increased costs for businesses. Early intervention, however, can mitigate these risks, improving employee well-being and workplace safety.
Traditional workplace mental health support faces barriers: stigma, long wait times, and limited accessibility. AI-powered tools are revolutionising this landscape, offering immediate, anonymous, and personalised support.
The power of early intervention
Early intervention is crucial because it addresses mental health concerns before they escalate. Models like SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment) demonstrate its effectiveness in proactive care.
Research consistently demonstrates the following benefits of early intervention:
‣ Reduced Treatment Intensity: Proactive intervention can prevent the need for more intensive, costly treatments.
‣ Improved Prognosis: Early access to evidence-based treatments enhances symptom management.
‣ Increased Recovery Rates: Early identification leads to better engagement and sustained recovery.
AI's role in early intervention
AI tools like Simpatico Ai break down barriers to early intervention:
‣ Building Trust & Reducing Stigma: AI offers a nonjudgmental, confidential space, encouraging employees to seek help sooner. Research shows individuals often open up more to AI therapists.
‣ 24/7 Accessibility: Instant support, anytime, anywhere, eliminating wait times and geographical limitations.
‣ Early Identification & Proactive Support: AI detects early warning signs, enabling timely intervention.
‣ Personalised Support: AI tailors interventions to individual needs, improving outcomes.
Simpatico AI: A workplace solution
Simpatico Ai is an AI-powered platform designed for workplace well-being. It leverages:
‣ Conversational AI for safe, anonymous mental health check-ins.
‣ Generative AI for personalised coping strategies.
Mental health is a critical workplace safety issue. Unaddressed stress and burnout contribute to incidents and absenteeism. AI-driven early intervention enables businesses to create a psychologically safe environment, fulfilling their WHS responsibilities.
Investing in AI-powered support isn't just compliance; it's creating a healthier, more productive workforce. AI empowers individuals and enhances early intervention, improving mental health outcomes.
The future of workplace well-being
Early intervention is the future. AI tools like Simpatico Ai offer a proactive approach, enabling businesses to prioritise mental health before crises occur. Let's shape a future where workplaces foster true psychological safety.
