s i n r e A e t c n t u ion l Vo The North American Sand Soccer Championships is put on by the Hampton Roads Soccer Council, a 501c3 non-profit organization. Proceeds from the tournament provide upgrades and enhancements at the Hampton Roads Soccer Complex (a premier 24 field soccer facility in Virginia Beach).

Our beloved event wouldn't be successful without the support and care from the local community. We are grateful to the 500+ local community volunteers that help set up and break down 60+ soccer fields, hang nearly 200 banners, serve as field marshals, prep tent books, deliver food and much more. These behind the scenes superstars help us ensure that nearly 725 soccer teams are enjoying a great weekend in Virginia Beach. Thank you to our volunteers! 12

2019 was the inaugural year for the Women's U.S. Open at the North American Sand Soccer Championships and all were treated to high-flying, world-class talent! The best players in the country comprised four teams which competed for bragging rights and a cash prize. Our friends from MD BSC ended up taking home the gold medal, while our own HRSC Elite team took the bronze. The women's game has caught fire worldwide in recent years and NASSC is proving to be a significant platform for talent development and identification. Our hope is to grow and make this division more competitive each year!

For 25 years, Dick Whalen was the driving force behind the growth and development of soccer in Hampton Roads. One of his greatest legacies was helping establish, build and enhance the Hampton Roads Soccer Complex (HRSC). NASSC was created to be a fundraiser for HRSC and has raised over $5 million to date. His fundraising efforts have paved the way for tens of thousands of local children and families to enjoy and make memories at HRSC. His commitment to excellence was unparalleled. NASSC and the U.S. Open were some of Dick's most valued developments. The Dick Whalen Soccer Scholarship has given out $15,000 to local student-athletes since 2020.

How long have you been involved with NASSC? Could you explain your role? I’ve been involved with NASSC 18 years as the Official Event Photographer. Could you explain your role at NASSC? I love the people involved and I love the event in general. Also, a getaway weekend in Virginia Beach isn’t a bad deal. How has NASSC evolved since your first year? As the event photographer I try to capture the magic of the event. It’s a sunup to sundown job but at the end of the day going through photos is a very rewarding process. What do you look forward to the most each year at NASSC? The NASSC is a high energy three day event. There are so many moving parts and little details that it's amazing to see come together. So many unique photography moments. To families enjoying the event, to high profile professional soccer matches. A visual smorgasbord of people, places, and things. What have been some of your favorite memories at NASSC? The NASSC just gets bigger and better every year. I’ve enjoyed the introduction of the Women's Pro-teams to the tournament. They are just amazing athletes to watch play. Why do you stay involved with NASSC year after year? I’ve enjoyed seeing friends I’ve made through the years returning to Virginia Beach. From families to players it is nice to see everyone enjoying themselves each year. Tell us a funny story/scenario that you’ve experienced at NASSC. It’s always a crowd pleaser when a stray soccer ball hits the photographer Anything else you’d like to share: I’ve enjoyed photographing the event each year. It has sharpened my photography skills through the years.

How long has your hotel been involved with NASSC? We have had the pleasure of being the headquarters hotel for over 15 years! What type of preparation is needed to help host an event of this magnitude? The months leading up to the event involves lots of communication between us and the planners, inputting lots of reservations and preparing our staff for one of the busiest weekends of the year. What makes NASSC different from other events your hotel hosts? NASSC is different from other events because we have had the pleasure of watching it grow tremendously over the years and see how it brings in so much revenue for our entire city and helps the Hampton Roads Soccer Complex. Our sales office meeting room walls are decorated with plaques from all the years of participation. How have your views of NASSC evolved through the years? Our appreciation for this event grows more and more each year. Seeing all of the hard work that goes on behind the scenes before, during and after the event is truly amazing. What do you look forward to the most each year at NASSC? Welcoming the youth teams and seeing them head straight to the beach to watch one of the first Pro games has always been on of my favorite things about the weekend. Seeing and hearing their excitement just radiates through the hotel and oceanfront. What have been some of your favorite memories at NASSC? The Friday night game is definitely one of the highlights for the weekend. You can just see the anticipation in the stands of all those ready to get there feet in the sand the next day. But my favorite memories were watching my father-in-law play! He was a great goalie and loved spending the entire weekend down here with the family cheering him on. Tell us a funny story/scenario that you’ve experienced at NASSC. One year during the Friday night VIP Sponsor Reception, the Mayor was giving his speech thanking Dick for creating such an amazing event and one of the kids from a youth team walking down the hall decided to pull the fire alarm. He has stayed with us several times since then and we always gave him a hard time about it and laugh. Anything else you’d like to share: Cheers to the 28th NASSC! We couldn’t be more proud of how “The King of Sand Soccer”, Dick Whalen, turned his dream into a reality. We hope to continue this crazy fun journey for many more years to come!

e Thomps k i M : o n s w e i v r e NASSC Int Could you explain your role at NASSC? My role as security coordinator at NASSC is to maintain and set up radio communications. recruit and coordinate overnight/daytime event security, and assist facilities with setup and teardown. How long have you been involved with NASSC? 2022 is my 20th year with NASSC! I have been in the US NAVY, 5 years as Norfolk Police, 2 years as business development manager at Silbar Security and 8 years as Public Safety at Eastern Virginia Medical School. Why do you stay involved with NASSC? I stay involved because of the friendships that I’ve formed over the years, and being a part of one of the largest family friendly events is awesome. Most of the guys on the security team have been involved with the event for 5 or more years and some have been involved for 10-20 years. It’s a reunion weekend for us guys to do a little good, keep people safe and enjoy a “guy-cation” together. Tell us a funny story/scenario that you’ve experienced at NASSC. A lot of the funniest times have come after the beach is cleared at night during those super early morning hours when security can get a little silly over the radio to pass the time. I’m known for midnight grilling to keep the crew fueled and focused overnight. What would you like to remind coaches and spectators during NASSC weekend? Stay hydrated and remember it’s a fun family weekend where you happen to play a few soccer games. Make memories. Keep your cool and have a great time. In the nicest way possible, I hope you and I never interact during the weekend. :) How have your views of NASSC evolved through the years? When I started, the event had a couple hundred teams and now it has nearly 900 teams. The amount of staffing and security support needed has grown as the event has grown. Our overnight crew does a lot of the prep work to get games ready at 8am. I’ve also helped out on the facilities crew and have seen how the event operations have become a well oiled machine. It’s wild to know that we build over 60 soccer fields and a stadium in about 2.5 days every year. What do you look forward to the most each year at NASSC? Seeing the crew! We work hard, play a little and enjoy the 3am banter on the radios. Also, I look forward to my annual sunburn, haha. Rest assured, I will be the only person on the beach getting a sunburn on a cloudy day. What have been some of your favorite memories at NASSC? I always enjoy watching the dolphins at sunrise. Also, it’s pretty amazing every year to see an empty beach fill up with tens of thousands of people who are going to join me to enjoy my favorite weekend of the year.

T i m : s Short w e i v r e t n I C NASS How long have you been involved with NASSC? I've been playing, coaching, or a tent coordinator for 17 years. Could you explain your role at NASSC? As tent coordinators I like to say we run a mini-tournament within the overall NASSC event. Each tent runs their mini-tournament and all of us together contribute to making the overall event go smoothly. For our tent Gretchen and I try to share all the duties except for one thing: I do the stat mats and she keeps the scores in the master scorebook. There is nothing like doing a division tie breaker with two teams of players and parents watching over your shoulder...LOL! How has NASSC evolved since your first year? It's gotten bigger and better. When I first played in it was a great tournament but now it is an event with all kinds of vendors, different sports, and fun things to do other than just sand soccer all weekend. What do you look forward to the most each year at NASSC? - I only see many of the people that work NASSC once a year so I look forward to catching up with them - My entire family plays or participates in NASSC so it's a great family weekend. - Our tent usually has U12-U14 kids and it's great seeing the talent and skill of the young players. What have been some of your favorite memories at NASSC? A couple of years ago we had a really bad storm roll though late on Sunday and had to postpone a few finals. When it passed there was killer rainbow that appeared over the oceanfront as we wrapped up the weekend. Tell us a funny story/scenario that you’ve experienced at NASSC I wish I could remember one but these weekends are so busy that it all just goes by in a blur.

Over the past decade and a half, beach soccer has journeyed from the beaches of Brazil to the hearts of millions of fans all over the globe. The participation of internationally renowned players such as the Brazilian Junior Negao, Portugal's Alan and Madjer and the Spanish star Amarelle has helped to expand television coverage to large audiences in over 170 countries worldwide, making beach soccer one of the fastest growing professional sports in the world and converting it into a major showcase for international commercial opportunity. Beach soccer had been played recreationally all over the world for many years and in many different formats. However, it wasn't until 1992 that the Laws of the Game were envisioned and a pilot event staged in Los Angeles. The following summer, the first professional beach soccer competition was organized at Miami Beach, with the teams from USA, Brazil, Argentina and Italy taking part in what would turn out to be an historic event. In April 1994 the first event to be covered by network television transmissions was held on the Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro and the city hosted the inaugural Beach Soccer World Championship one year later. The competition was won by the host nation, making Brazil the first ever World Champions of Beach Soccer. The success of the tournament saw international interest begin to match developments on the pitch and growing demand for the sport around the world gave rise to the Pro Beach Soccer Tour in 1996. The first Pro Beach Soccer Tour included a total of 60 games in two years across South America, Europe, Asia and the USA, attracting major names both on and off the pitch. Interest generated by the tour in Europe led to the creation of the European Pro Beach Soccer League in 1998, providing a solid infrastructure that would increase the professionalism of the spectacle on all levels. The EPBSL, now known as the Euro BS League, united promoters from across the continent and satisfied the demands of the media, sponsors and fans. Only four years on from its creation, the successful first step in the building of a legitimate Worldwide Competition Structure for the sport of Pro Beach Soccer had been taken. The euro BS league flourished, with a nail-biting 2000 season decided in the closing match of the final tournament when Spain beat Portugal in an intense encounter. The next four years would see this growth consolidated by further progress both on and off the pitch, with the Euro BS League emerging as the strongest Pro Beach Soccer competition in the world. By 2004, some 17 nations had entered teams, and by 2005 this had risen to 20, leading to more than seventy countries looking to stage events. 2005 saw beach soccer become part of the FIFA family with the first-ever FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup staged on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro. An Eric Cantona-led France defeated Portugal in the final, while hot favorites Brazil fell in the semis. However, the following year, at the first edition of the tournament to feature16 nations, the Auriverde avenged the previous year's loss, before winning a further three successive world crowns, with the latter two tournaments staged in Marseille and Dubai. The most recent tournament, held in 2011 in the Italian city of Ravenna, saw a new name etched on the crown as Russia saw off Brazil in the final. The 2013 World Cup was held in Tahiti. Overall rating based on risk-adjusted returns against 1,147 Large Value Funds as of 03.31.2022, derived from a weighted average of the performance figures associated with its three-, five- and ten-year Morningstar Rating metrics (BEGIX). The Equity Income Fund (BEGIX) was rated 4 stars for the 3-year, 5 stars for the 5-year, and 4-stars for the 10-year period among 1,146, 1,047 and 770 Large Value Funds, respectively, as of 03.31.2022. Ratings for other share classes may differ. The Morningstar RatingTM for funds, or "star rating", is calculated for managed products (including mutual funds, variable annuity and variable life subaccounts, exchange-traded funds, closed-end funds, and separate accounts) with at least a three-year history. Exchange-traded funds and open-ended mutual funds are considered a single population for comparative purposes. It is calculated based on a Morningstar Risk-Adjusted Return measure that accounts for variation in a managed product's monthly excess performance, placing more emphasis on downward variations and rewarding consistent performance. The top 10% of products in each product category receive 5 stars, the next 22.5% receive 4 stars, the next 35% receive 3 stars, the next 22.5% receive 2 stars, and the bottom 10% receive 1 star. The Overall Morningstar Rating for a managed product is derived from a weighted average of the performance figures associated with its three-, five-, and 10-year (if applicable) Morningstar Rating metrics. The weights are: 100% three-year rating for 36-59 months of total returns, 60% five-year rating/40% three-year rating for 60-119 months of total returns, and 50% 10-year rating/30% five-year rating/20% three-year rating for 120 or more months of total returns. While the 10-year overall star rating formula seems to give the most weight to the 10-year period, the most recent three-year period actually has the greatest impact because it is included in all three rating periods. ©2022 Morningstar. NORTH AMERICAN SAND SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIPS 2021 2022 Code of Conduct

The Hampton Roads Soccer Council and the Tournament Committee of the North American Sand Soccer Championships (NASSC) care about the safety and conduct of all players, coaches, and parents/spectators during the event. We want to ensure that games are fair, positive and enjoyable experiences for all the participants involved. To achieve these goals, we have established a Code of Conduct for players, coaches, and parents/spectators. The following standards outline the conduct that is paramount to the game of beach soccer and to NASSC. Players, Coaches and Parent/Spectator Code of Conduct: • • • • •

All parties: may not make any disparaging or offensive comments or acts of physical abuse toward any player, coach, referee, or NASSC staff, during, or after a game. All parties: will not argue with or speak to a referee before, during, or after a game. Coaches: will display control, respect, and professionalism to all involved within the event. This includes opponents, coaches, referees, and NASSC staff. Coaches: are responsible for the conduct of their players and parents before, during, and after a game. Spectators: will remain in the spectator area during the games (on sideline or boardwalk – not on end line or team sideline).

Penalties and Enforcement: •

70

NASSC staff and referees reserve the right to request that a player, coach, or parent/spectator leave the field (sight and sound) if that individual fails to abide by this Code of Conduct. Additional action will be at the discretion of the NASSC Tournament Committee. Complaints regarding violations of this code shall be first brought to the attention of their respective Headquarters Tent who will then involve the Tournament Committee as required.

I (We) have read the Code of Conduct. I (We) agree to follow this Code of Conduct during participation in all NASSC activities.
