Tool Box 1

For the first project of the semester we were tasked with choosing from a variety of tools and then model said tool from paper. Once we had modeled it out of paper we transitioned into rhino and created templates of our model to laser cut and then assemble by hand. After we had done this we converted our template into a 3-D file to 3-D print. The tool I chose was the chuck from the drill press. I chose this tool as the drill chuck seemed like a tool I would be using the most in the shop and studying how it worked would help me out in the future.

Joint System 2

For the second assignment of the semester we were told to research a series of joint systems. Once we had researched the joint systems we ran tests on how they worked and what materials suited what joints best. Once we had conducted our research we were able to start sketching an object of our choice that would be build with a series of joints and at least two different materials. I chose to make a table with a quartz top and cedar wood legs. The table was held together by two different sets of joints. A set of dado joints as well as a set of dowel joints for added stability.

Case Study Model 3

For the final assignment of the class we returned to a building we previously studied in studio. Now that we had re searched this building and were familiar with it we were now tasked with creat ing a 3-D model of it in rhino for the first portion of the assignment. For the sec ond portion of the assignment we were the instructed to choose a painting and recreate our building in the style of said painting. The building I had to model was the Sonasterio Music Studio, located in Brazil. For the second portion I chose the painting “ Everyday is like Sunday” by Dogma to recreate.

Sonasterio Music Studio

The case study we chose for this chapter was the Sonasterio Music Studio. The Sonasterio Music Studio is a music studio built by Joao Diniz, and it is located in Morro Do Chapeu, Brazil. This building was built with concrete and glass as the main materials, the building is somewhat isolated as the nearest town is down the road, but the building itself is placed on a mountain range. These mountains provide cover from the nearby town and hide it from sight.
