Harward Rec Center

The Harward Recreation Center is a 140,000 square foot indoor facility offering many recreation amenities to the public. Our mission is to provide quality programs and services, be responsive to the citizens, and play an active role in making Nampa a healthy community.

To ensure the safety of our members and visitors, the Harward Recreation Center will enforce all policies and procedures. For a complete list and description of policies, please refer to our website at or pick up a copy at the Rec Center Front Desk. Specific guidelines are available in each department of the facility.

Adaptive Services

The Nampa Parks and Rec Department provides accommodations for youth with disabilities to participate in any recreation program. For more information or to setup assistance in advance, please contact the Harward Recreation Center.

*To be eligible for a HRC family or senior couple membership the primary member and spouse must be legally married as recognized by the State of Idaho. The HRC may ask for proof of legal dependency or a marriage certificate from anyone registering for a family or senior couple membership.

Ongoing sessions (60 minutes) which build upon the foundations of the preceding sessions will provide the extra motivation, variety, and accountability to help you reach your health, fitness, or performance goals. Learn how many calories your body burns in a day to establish a calorie budget, decrease the frequencies of plateaus, and improve your overall fitness with our highly accurate MedGemTM (an indirect calorimeter that measures VO2 and determines Resting Metabolic Rate). FREE Diabetes Prevention Program Information Session

1 in 3 Americans are prediabetic, and 90% of those are not even aware of it. Join us if you would like to learn more about this medical condition, how to manage it if you are already diabetic, determine your risk of developing type 2 diabetes OR looking to lose weight the right way and be healthy! You will learn more about a lifestyle change program (National Diabetes Prevention Program) that will be starting later in March that is suitable for ALL individuals looking to lose weight healthfully, prevent chronic disease, and become more active.

Strength Training for Women

This six-week course will cover a variety of equipment and free weights helping you to feel more comfortable in the weight room. You will learn more about weight room etiquette and jargon, safe and effective training techniques, the five fitness components and their benefits, and have lots of time to practice what you learn!

Weight Room Age Policy

The weight room is reserved for individuals 15 years and older. Youth 13 and 14 years old may obtain weight room privileges by completing the HRC’s Youth Strength Training Course. The HRC offers the ZONE for 10-14 years olds and functional training under certain parameters for those as young as 6 years old. Each youth participant must complete an orientation with a trainer and sign a “Youth Training Pledge and Consent” form along with their parent before engaging in training.

The ZONE (Youth Fitness Center)

The ZONE features 9 pieces of strength training equipment specifically engineered for youth ages 10-14. Stop by or call the weight room for more information or to schedule the required orientation. Member Free, Non-Member $16

Youth Strength Training Course

By successfully completing this 4-day course, youth ages 13 and 14 years will be granted use of the weight room including the free weights (some restrictions apply). This course will focus on safe, productive training and practical experience. Participants are required to attend the entire class and pass both a written and practical exam. Classes are ongoing and require pre-registration at the Program Desk.

Provided by St. Alphonsus Physical Therapy. Stop by the weight room desk to arrange a 15-minute injury assessment or sign up for one of our ongoing times. Screenings will include recommendations for injury treatment and prevention. All ages are welcome

Kids in Action Day Camp-(KIA)

The Harward Rec Center Kids in Action Day camp program is a great way to keep your kids active when school is out. Kids in Action gets your kids moving in a supervised, safe environment. Kindergarten through fifth graders stay actively engaged before and after school, or full day care is available according to the Nampa schools’ schedule, please see Day Camp calendar. Transportation is included to and from any Nampa public school, with additional $1 charge. No commitment, you only pay for the days you register for and credits are issued when your plans change, if you call by 7pm the day before. A $5 late fee will be charged if your child has not been paid for by the end of the day of attendance. Call 208-468-5858 for more information or to set up a tour to see for yourself. KIA will be closed December 26.

Snacks are provided for program participants. Parents must provide their children with a lunch for the Full-Day program. Parents may choose to purchase a lunch through the Rec Center. Meal is provided by either Subway or Pizza Hut. Cost is $3.50/lunch, $16/5-punch card, or $30/10-punch card.

ABRAKADOODLE – Kids on Canvas®

A unique art program that teaches children about painting on a variety of canvas surfaces with acrylics. Canvas paper, canvas board and stretched canvas will be used. Master artists, such as Renoir, Laurel Burch and Sam Francis will be introduced, along with vocabulary and technique.

American Red Cross Babysitter Training

In this one-day class learn information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children in the absence of parents and guardians.

Course includes handbook, Emergency Reference Guide and CD with fun activities and support resources. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Red Cross Babysitter Training certification card.

E-Sports: Tournaments

Join us for our E-Sports (Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Smash Bros Ultimate) Nintendo Switch tournaments series. Although competitive in nature, this tournament series is meant to be fun for all ages and will no doubt have many levels of skill present. Tournaments will be double elimination with pool play to determine seeding. Winner will receive a prize.

Mario Kart will be 150 cc, Smart Steering and Auto Acceleration will be turned off, and no CPU’s.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate

Super Smash Bros Ultimate will have a 7-minute time limit with 3 stocks per game. Contact for additional rules and stages.

Harward Rec Center Preschool

Early childhood education is the first building block for a lifetime love of learning! Preschool classes at the Harward Rec Center are offered for ages 3 and 4. Registration for 2023-2024 school year will begin May 5 at 8am.

Junior Master Gardener Adventures

Nampa Recreation Department has partnered with The University of Idaho Extension 4H for this Outside the Box Junior Master Gardener Adventure. This fun gardening class will introduce kids to what plants need to live and grow through hands on activities.

Explorers of the Deep Nampa Recreation Department has partnered with The University of Idaho Extension 4H for this Outside the Box Explorers of the Deep. This STEM Challenge will explore the interconnections between the ocean and humans – even if you live in the desert!

SPIKE LEGO & Donuts!

LEGO bricks and donuts? Life doesn’t get any better! Enjoy a provided donut while we check out this new and fun way to combine your love of LEGO with easy coding. SPIKE has colorful LEGO building elements, easy-to-use hardware, and an intuitive drag-and-drop coding language based on Scratch. SPIKE Prime will engage kiddos through playful learning activities like LEGO Break Dancer, Robotic Arm or Racing Car. These activities and more will having kids thinking critically and solving complex problems, regardless of their learning level.

LEGO Animation

Come create and build a mini movie set out of LEGO bricks, minifigures and anything else to help create your own animated movie! Children will use technology to make that perfect LEGO animated movie with complete editing capabilities, effects, music, and narration all through iMovie and Stop Motion. Children will be paired up in this class so that filming and editing can all be done through timely and efficient teamwork. All movies will be posted to a private YouTube channel so that friends and family will be able to view as well.

These youth soccer classes are designed to encourage a sense of empowerment and self confidence in kids using a variety of fun soccer enriched games. The skilled instructors will use their experience at collegiate and professional level to aid athletes in being ready to perform at their highest potential. Some parent participation during class will be required.

Homeschool P.E. is a great way to get your children active and develop social skills while having fun with their peers! The Harward Rec Center offers a comprehensive Physical Education Program for homeschooled children.

The Big Dill Pickleball Spring Break Camp

The world’s fastest-growing sport is now a spring break camp your kids will love. Pickleball has been described as a combination of tennis, badminton and ping pong. Day campers are taught the fundamentals of serving and receiving the ball, volleying, dinking, positioning, and scoring. This camp is led by a highly trained team of coaches and instructors who are carefully chosen to ensure each camper’s safety, skill development, and individual enjoyment.

Nampa Youth Basketball

Sponsored by the Nampa Recreation Department offered in cooperation with the Nampa School District. This program will provide an opportunity for youth to learn basic skills and teamwork in a recreational atmosphere. Children register on a team coached by parent volunteers. Each week, teams will have two 1-hour practices (Kindergarten and 1st Grade teams will have one 45-minute practice). Games are played on Saturdays. Practices and games are held at Nampa School District gyms.

January 9-February 17 Kindergarten/1st (coed) 2nd/3rd Boys, 4th/5th Boys, 6th Girls, 7th/8th Girls $40 Register by December 20 & receive a discounted rate of $35.

WINGS Gymnastics

Gymnastics is a great physical foundation for kids of all ages that helps develop strength, coordination, physical fitness, and self-esteem. It will help prepare children for participation in all kinds of sports. Our instructors will help guide children in a positive atmosphere that helps develop their skills and self-confidence. Each class is designed to teach progressions safely and allows the child to move at their own pace.

For a current class schedule or to register, visit the Rec Center website or stop by the Program Desk. A $10 additional fee will be charged for students who register on or after the 1st of the month. Monthly tuition is due by the 20th of the prior month to guarantee a place in the following month’s class. New student tuition will be prorated. Instructors cannot accept payment. New students receive 50% off their first month!

Traditions Tang Soo Do

This class teaches self-confidence, builds self-esteem, and improves balance, while establishing discipline and courtesy towards others. Participants will learn age-appropriate self-defense and weapons training. These classes are non-violent; sparring is optional.

Clothing and Equipment

Students should wear loose fitting clothing, such as sweatpants and a t-shirt. No jewelry or watches during class. A mouth guard and a groin protector cup (males) are recommended.

Spring Break Tennis Camp

For the 6-9 year olds, come learn the basic concepts and strokes. The focus is on having fun with lots of games and enjoyable drills. The 9-14 year olds will focus on basics of all the strokes. Drills and games will be based on the stroke they learn that day. Classes will take place on multiple courts with instruction provided by Columbia Head Coach Lee Haskill.

PGA Jr Golf League

Boys & Girls learn to play golf better and have a lot of fun! Play on teams with friends, wear numbered jerseys and compete in a two person scramble format. Regular season matches will be held May-July. Teams play four 9-hole matches in a two-person scramble format, reinforcing the team concept and creating a nurturing environment for learning the game. Teams are coached by PGA professionals. All abilities are encouraged! Scholarships available if needed.

The Harward Rec Center houses five swimming pools for your exercise and recreational enjoyment. Enjoy access to the Lap Pool, Rec Pool, Deep Pool, and Kids Pool. Swim Idaho!

Swim Idaho! is a way for lap swimmers to chart their progress, set goals and conquer those goals. Swimming benchmarks are: 102 miles-the distance of the Boise River, 425 milesthe distance of the Salmon River, 779 miles-the distance of the length and width of Idaho and finally 1,076 milesthe distance of the mighty Snake River. T-shirts are awarded at each Idaho Benchmark. Ask a Lifeguard how to start tracking your laps!

American Red Cross Lifeguard Recertification

Meet the requirement to maintain your current certification. Participants will be refreshed in their lifesaving, CPR/AED, and first aid skills, and provided instruction in the most up-to-date skills and techniques. Red Cross no longer offers challenge courses. Must possess a current lifeguard certification manual for the first day of class. Books are not provided.

Splash N’ Dash

We do the splashing… parents do the dashing! Parents, enjoy a Friday evening with each other while we entertain your children in the pools! Homeschool Swimming

Children of all swimming abilities will be able to participate in activities with other children of similar skills and ages in the swimming pool. On the first day children will be split up based on swimming ability and age. During the two-hour period each level group will receive a 30-minute group lesson from one of our nationally certified instructors, the rest is open recreational swimming time for the kids to interact, have fun and be active!

W.S.I. Water Safety Instructor Course

If you have a desire to become a swimming instructor this is the perfect class for you. This course demonstrates how to teach American Red Cross swimming lessons and set up lesson plans. Course prerequisites are 25 yards in the following 6 strokes: front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, butterfly, sidestroke, and elementary backstroke. If you are unsure whether you can complete the prerequisites, sign up for a skills evaluation. Refund request must be made 4 business days before start of class.

Red Cross Lifeguard Training

Which Class?

• Each child must pass a particular level and granted a Red Cross Card before proceeding to the next level.

• All age requirements must be followed unless instructor’s approval has been granted.

• It is not uncommon for a child to stay in a particular level for several sessions before successful completion.

• Classes missed for vacation, injury, sickness or any other reason cannot be made up and are nonrefundable.

Skills Evaluation

Unsure of what level your child should be placed in? Sign your child up for a 10-minute skills evaluation with a certified instructor who will recommend an appropriate level. Member Free, Non-Member $3

This course is designed for experienced swimmers ages 15 and older that want to become Red Cross Lifeguards. Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid certifications are awarded upon successful completion of the course. Course prerequisites are: 300 yard swim using front crawl and breaststroke, retrieval of a 10 pound brick from 7ft of water and two minutes of treading water with no hands. The City of Nampa offers horticulture workshops to help gardeners and homeowners develop a green thumb and keep their trees and plants healthy!

CPR/AED & First Aid Class

Coed Dodgeball Tournament

Relive your middle school years, gather your pals, and compete to be the ultimate dodger. Teams can have up to 10 players on their roster. All games will be played by 6 players/team with at least 2 girls on the court. Each match will consist of 3 rounds lasting 10 minutes each.

If you’re looking for opportunities to exercise in the great summer outdoors, socialize, and maybe some healthy competition, then we welcome you to our league. Each league will have multiple divisions to meet the needs of each team, from the more experienced A division teams to the more recreational players that are just ready to have fun in the C division. Each team will play ten regular season games with a double elimination tournament to follow. Teams may play two games a week.

Minidoka National Historic Site

Minidoka War Relocation Site is in Jerome County, during its operation it was the 7th largest city in Idaho. In 1979 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places and tours are given by park rangers. We will take the guided walking tour (approximately 1 mile) and explore the visitor center. Trip includes transportation, water, box lunch and admission.

The State Archives has a large collection of Idaho history, including Lincoln’s Legacy in the state. The Old Idaho Penitentiary was built in 1870 and housed prisoners for 101 years. Nampa Senior Center

The Senior Center, adjoining the Harward Recreation Center’s east side, is a wonderful place for seniors to enjoy an assortment of fun activities. Senior Center Dining Hall

The Nampa Senior Center Main Dining Hall seats up to 150 people. Space available Saturdays between 8am-7pm and Sundays between 11am-6pm. Call the Rec Center for additional details and to secure your date. $300 for 4 hours ($50 each additional hour)


Daily lunch is served to the public Monday through Friday at 12:00 noon. The public is welcome! You do not need to be a senior to enjoy our lunches and/or other activities. Senior Walking Club

Members age 65 years and older earn a free t-shirt by walking at the Harward Recreation Center! Sign up at the weight room desk and chart your progress each day on the log sheet provided. Earn a t-shirt for 100, 500 and 1000 miles.

This class will help increase mobility and independence by improving lower body strength, endurance, flexibility, and bone mass, which can help reduce the risk of falling.

Centennial Golf Course

This 6,700 yard, par 72 course offers generous fairways, large greens with various slopes and elevations, bunkers and water hazards. Scenic views of the Treasure Valley with great amenities combined with affordable rates makes Centennial a great place to golf. Centennial is playable for golfers of all abilities and is a great place to bring the entire family for a round of golf and usually the course is playable all year.

Ridgecrest Golf Club has 27 holes of golf with a links-style designed Championship 18hole course with four sets of tees for golfers of all abilities, and an executive 9-hole course (Wee-9) with five par four’s and four par three’s. Foot Golf

Come out to Ridgecrest Golf Club to experience the hybrid of golf and soccer-Foot Golf. The game is played with a soccer ball on the golf course and the goal is to kick it down the course in as few kicks as possible. The game is played with a regulation soccer ball and holes are established on the course so the ball can sink into the hole. Come out and experience the game! Soccer cleats are not allowed.

Reservations for park facilities are taken up to one year in advance on a first come, first-served basis and receive priority over drop-in groups. Right of Way Tree Planting

This program provides City of Nampa residents help with planting appropriate trees in the Right of Way areas of their property. Two periods each year, spring and fall, provide citizens with an opportunity to participate in this program.
