The weight room is reserved for individuals 15 years and older. Youth 13 and 14 years old may obtain weight room privileges by completing the HRC’s Youth Strength Training Course. The HRC offers the ZONE for 10-14-year-olds and functional training under certain parameters for those as young as 6 years old. Each youth participant must complete an orientation with a trainer and sign a “Youth Training Pledge and Consent” form along with their parent before engaging in training.
The ZONE features 9 pieces of strength training equipment specifically engineered for youth ages 10-14. Stop by or call the weight room for more information or to schedule the required orientation.

Improve strength, endurance, balance, coordination, and flexibility with real-life movements and age-appropriate exercises. Equipment could include battle ropes, medicine balls, glides, stability balls, tire, TRX, etc. Orientation required, and for youth ages 6-9 a parent must be present during the orientation and for workouts.

By successfully completing this 4-day course, youth ages 13 and 14 years will be granted use of the weight room including the free weights (some restrictions will apply). This course will focus on safe, productive training and practical experience. Participants are required to attend the entire class and pass both a written and practical exam. Learn how many calories your body burns in a day to establish a calorie budget, decrease the frequencies of plateaus, and improve your overall fitness with our highly accurate MedGemTM (an indirect calorimeter that measures VO2 and determines Resting Metabolic Rate). No exercise, food, or beverages (water ok) or certain nutritional supplements 4-8 hours and no nicotine 1 hour prior to assessment. Questions or to schedule an appointment, contact a trainer. Ongoing sessions (60 minutes) which build upon the foundations of the preceding sessions will provide the extra motivation, variety, and accountability to help you reach your health, fitness, or performance goals. Contact the Fitness Supervisor with questions.
This class will help increase mobility and independence by improving lower body strength, endurance, flexibility, and bone mass, which can help reduce the risk of falling. Class participants must be able to perform the exercises independently. If some assistance is required, contact the Fitness Supervisor for possible options. The Harward Recreation Center Kids in Action Day Camp program offers a wonderful opportunity to keep your children engaged and active during school breaks. Our program ensures that children from kindergarten to fifth grade are supervised and participate in physical activities in a safe environment. Before and after school care is provided, as well as full day care based on the Nampa School District schedule (please refer to the calendar for details). Safe Sitter® prepares students to be safe when they are home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting. Students learn lifesaving skills such as how to rescue someone who’s choking, and helpful information like what to do if there’s severe weather. Safe Sitter® courses are instructor led and interactive, with hands on demonstration and skills practice. Please bring a sack lunch.

Swim Idaho! is a way for lap swimmers to chart their progress, set goals and conquer those goals. Swimming benchmarks are: 102 miles the distance of the Boise River, 425 miles the distance of the Salmon River, 779 miles the distance of the length and width of Idaho and finally 1,076 the distance of the mighty Snake River. T-shirts are awarded at each Idaho Benchmark. Ask a lifeguard how to start tracking your laps!
The Harward Rec Center houses five swimming pools for your exercise and recreational enjoyment. Programs consist of swimming lessons, aquatic safety classes, water aerobics and kayaking. Enjoy access to the Lap Pool, Rec Pool, Deep Pool, and Kids Pool. Open swim times will offer recreational play in pools of different sizes and temperatures. Pools may have limited availability, ask a lifeguard for more info.
We do the splashing… parents do the dashing! Parents, enjoy a Friday evening with each other while we actively entertain your children in the pools! For 3 hours our certified lifeguards and lesson staff will be in the water actively supervising, playing water games and having a blast swimming around. With those 3 hours enjoy dinner and a movie, get things caught up around the house, or just enjoy a relaxing night.
This course is designed for experienced swimmers ages 15 and older that want to become Red Cross Lifeguards. Advanced skills are taught and information about lifesaving techniques will be presented. Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid certifications are awarded upon successful completion of the course. Course prerequisite day: Students must complete the pre-requisite swim of a 300-yard swim using front crawl and/or breaststroke, retrieval of a 10-pound brick from 7ft of water and two minutes of treading water with no hands. You will then be given information about the online component which must be completed prior to the first full day of class. If you are unsure whether you can complete the prerequisites, sign up for a skills evaluation. Refund request must be made 4 business days before start of class.

The Harward Recreation Center is proud to offer a fun and energetic homeschool swimming P.E. program. Children of all swimming abilities will be able to participate in activities with other children of similar skills and ages in the swimming pool. Sign-ups will be according to the American Red Cross level requirements. Each level will receive a 30-minute group lesson, and the rest is open recreational swimming time for the kids to interact, have fun and be active!
Cost includes drop-in recreation swimming for children who are registered. If you are unsure of what level your child should be in, please sign up for a swimming skills evaluation.

Nampa Parks & Recreation is offering an Adult Basketball League. Each team will play eight games followed by a single elimination tournament. All games will consist of two 20-minute halves. Non-competitive leagues will play on Wednesday or Thursdays. Competitive leagues will play Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday evenings. Teams may be moved divisions after they have played three games. Game times will be 7pm, 8pm or 9pm. Required team meeting November 20 at 6pm at the Harward Rec Center. (one representative from each team is required to attend).
League play will begin the week of December 1. There will be a two week break between the 1st and 2nd half for Christmas Break.

Specialty coffee can be intimidating. How can a coffee taste like jasmine and mangoes--doesn't it just taste like coffee? Join us for a tour of Dawson Taylor Coffee Roasting Facility in Boise. They will break down growing, processing, roasting, and brewing coffee so you can understand what the different terms mean.
You'll taste different coffees and learn to appreciate aspects of coffee and discern what traits appeal to you. By the end of the tour you will have a better understanding of what you enjoy in a coffee and feel more confident heading into the coffee aisle. Kohlerlawn Cemetery is publicly owned and operated by the City of Nampa. The Cemetery is open to visitors each day beginning at dawn and closes each evening at dusk. Recycle the leaves from your yard with Kohlerlawn Cemetery’s leaf recycling program. Leaves are composted into mulch for use in parks. Signs will be posted near the cemetery that give directions to specific “drop off” location. Loose leaves only, no bags or other non-recyclable materials. Tree limbs and brush are not allowed. Due to limited space in the composting area, Kohlerlawn’s leaf recycling program is a service for Nampa citizens only and is closed to commercial landscaping contractors. This program is designed to assist homeowners with proper tree selection and planting within the public right-of-way on their property. The fall planting period begins in September and runs as long as tree availability or weather conditions allow. Contact Nampa Parks & Forestry to schedule an appointment or for more information.
