CRIME & COURT

Local girl struck off scooter Madelaine Laubscher A girl that was driving a scooter was hit by a bakkie of Tula's Plumbing in Walvis Bay which was allegedly driven by a sub-contractor on Tuesday morning between 09:15 and 09:30. The accident ocurred infront of the business. We saw survaillence footage of the accident where the bakkie struck the scooter. According to the owner of Tula's Plumbing it could be that the girl was in the driver's blindspot when he wanted to make a right-turn. “He was on the scene for a few minutes and then left, apparently wanting to fetch his licence, but he did not come back right away. It was then also discovered that he does not have a valid driver's licence. I was under the impression that it was one of my own drivers who drove the vehicle, but I was informed that it was the sub-contractor who drove the vehicle at the time of the accident. Police officials came to us to view the surveillence footage and the driver went with the police to the station,” he said.

A witness at the scene (who was driving behind the girl at the time) confirmed that the driver made a right turn infront of the girl. She was assisted by St Gabriels Ambulance services and transported to the hospital for further medical care. She sustained injuries, but fortunately her injuries are not critical. Accordig to a source, she is doing well and luckily no bones were broken. “She sustained injuries (open wounds) on her arms and legs. No bones were broken which is very fortunate. She is lucky as this accident could have resulted in a fatality,” the source said. The spokesperson of Nampol could not be reached for comment before the time of going to press.
