Staff Reporter DIMAPUR, FEB 18 (NPN): Advisor of Food and Civil Supplies, Pukhayi Assumi called the economy of Nagaland underdeveloped and primitive and added that skill development was an important agenda in the country.

According to the organisers of the programme, Pukhayi said this during the certificate-cum-Kaushal Bima insurance awarding ceremony held Tuesday, at Hotel Saramati, jointly organized by the Muru Infra Developers, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and Construction Skill development Council of India.

Pukhayi asked the awardees and the youths to give their full determination and contribute to their respective families and the state.

While exhorting at the occasion, Pukhayi also spoke about his visit to Japan four years ago as part of an educational tour, where he said that people there were skilled and involved in their busy profession, which was not the case here.

He pointed this out as the reason why the economy of Japan has made much progress.

Altogether, 30 skilled workers in the construction sector for Assam and Nagaland were awarded certificates under the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), a constituent of PMKVY.

Earlier, Pinaki Sankar Deb, regional manager of NE & WB, Construction Skill Development Council of India said that the scheme was the consequence of the gap of demand and supply in the country and this was an output based system. Giving further details about the scheme, he said that the certificates were internationally recognized. He added that in future, for every job whether in the government sector or private sector, these certificates will be of much value. He said that along with the certificates, the awardees were also getting insurance of Rs 2 lakh, which would have a validity of three years, and Rs 500 on completion of programme.

It may be mentioned that RPL is a platform to provide recognition to the informal learning or learning through work to get equal acceptance as the formal levels of education. The programme aims to impart skills training for existing workers to align the competencies of the unregulated workforce to the NSQF under PMKVY 2.0 RPL scheme. Under RPL, Muru Infra Developers has till now assessed more than 3000 workers.

(NP) DIMAPUR: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Peren held XVth scientific advisory committee (SAC) meeting on February 17 at KVK conference hall, Porba with deputy commissioner (DC) Phek, Sachin Jaiswal, as special guest.

A press release by KVK Peren stated that the DC Sachin Jaiswal emphasized on coordination of KVK with line departments of agriculture towards achieving a common goal to uplift the agrarian community.

The chairman of SAC, director, ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Medziphema, Dr. Abhijit Mitra, urged the KVK officials to reach out the remote villages to percolate the farmer friendly technologies. He advocated the farmers not to be subsidy oriented, rather to optimize the available resources.

The meeting chaired by Dr. Abhijit Mitra was attended by the district officials, progressive farmers, and representative as from NGOs, Nagaland State Cooperative Bank and NABARD.

Senior scientist & head in-charge, KVK, Phek, Dr T Esther Longkumer, welcomed the members of the SAC and briefed about the KVK mandates and activities.

ACTO-Agronomy, KVK Phek, Dr. Hannah K Asangla, presented the action taken report of XIVth SAC and progress report of preceding year 2019-2020. The annual action plan of KVK Phek for the year 2019-20 was presented by Dr T Esther Longkumer, before the house and necessary suggestions were sought for incorporation in the plan.

An interactive session was held during the meeting which was followed by an exhibition in the KVK premises. Altogether 50 participants attended the meeting. The meeting concluded with words of appreciation by SMS Animal Science, Dr. Debojyoti Borkotoky. DC Peren Sachin Jaiswal along with KVK scientists and other participants.

SAV commemorates foundation day

DIMAPUR: Signal Angami Village (SAV) under Dimapur district commemorated its 80th foundation day on February 17 at the village panchayat hall.

Speaking on the occasion as the main speaker, chief medical officer (CMO), Mon, Dr. Kechongol Sophie, encouraged people to contribute ideas and materials towards the needs of the village. He also emphasized the need to develop children park and marketing sheds in the villages in Nagaland.

SAV chairman, Keneichosul Sophie paid tribute to the founding members of the village. Amongst the prominent citizens in the village, Nyemli Phom, ex-MLA and Limameren, retired director, soil & water conservation, exhorted the gathering and Signal Angami women presented a special number.

The programme was conducted by GB N. T. Thamlong Phom and the village council member Er.Sashi Longkumer said welcome address and VDB secretary, K. Bao Tetso delivered the vote of thanks. SAV members along with Dr. Kechongol Sophie during the commemoration programme.

FSMA provincial team visits Kidima DIMAPUR: Councillors of provincial team of Franciscan sisters, Saint Mary of the Angels (FSMA) visited Kidima, vegetable village on February 17 and 18, as part of North East India tour which began from February 13 to 25.

According to FSMA, councillors Sr (Dr) Manju from Madhya Pradesh and Sr Sheela from Rajasthan said that FSMA congregation was focusing on inclusive school for the differently abled persons as well as to train sisters in order to impart them about inclusive education apart from religious profession.

It may be noted that eight mission centres in the Northeast, three in Assam, one in Meghalaya and four in Nagaland (Atoizu, Dimapur, Khuzama and Kidima) have also been established.

Programme on community empowerment held in Tsg

DIMAPUR: DEF Tuensang, district administration, Krishi Vigyan Kendra Tuensang, National Programme for Control of Blindness & Visual Empowerment and Tuensang District Football Association organised a collaborative programme on community empowerment through an integrated approach at GHS hall Thonoknyu on February 4.

A press release by SP Tuensang stated second phase collaborative programme on community empowerment through an integrated approach was also held at Pathso town on February 5.

P r o g r a m m e w a s chaired by Dr. Pritpal Kaur SDPO Tuensang who emphasized on quality education, hard work, sincerity, perseverance and career options. A short speech on control of blindness & visual empowerment was delivered by I. TochiImlong, opthalmic assistant, CHC, Longkhim followed by eyesight test and spectacles distribution. Short speech was also delivered by Dr. Shisarenla Aier, subject matter specialist (Horticulture), KVK Tuensang where she emphasized on the importance of scientific cultivation practices, followed by hands on training on ginger candy making and chilli pickle. The participants were also trained on scientific cultivation of potato, onion, mushroom cultivation by Yanger I Kichu, farm manager, KVK Tuensang and important of soil testing and method of soil sample collection was given by Seveto Nyekha, programme assistant, KVK Tuensang. Planting materials like potato tubers around 400 kgs and onion seeds around 10 kgs were distributed to the farmers. Games and sports equipments like carrom board, football and volleyball were also distributed to the students. Altogether 341 patients came for eye sight test and 234 nos of spectacles were distributed in both Thonoknyu and Pathso. Phuniyang, SDO (Civil) Thonoknyu delivered the welcome address. Altogether 417 participants from Thonoknyu and Pathso participated in the programme along with officials from Tuensang Police, KVK Tuensang, administration Tuensang, National Programme for Control of Blindness & Visual Empowerment. Participants with DEF Tuensang, administrative officials and others at the programme.

DLSAs legal awareness on ‘Nagaland Victim Compensation Scheme 2012’

MYK C DIMAPUR: District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) under the aegis of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) has been conducting awareness programme on “Nagaland Victim Compensation Scheme, 2012” with youth/women organization at different areas.

A press release from NSLSA public relations assistant stated that, the scheme has been introduced for the purpose of compensation to the victims or dependents who have suffered loss or injury as a result of crime and who require rehabilitation. Kohima DLSA on February 15 conducted the programme at Sumi Aphuyami Baptist Church, Kohima with youths. District retainer lawyer Sunjib Rana said that the scheme was not to compensate victims for crime nor can compensate the loss victims have suffered, however, it aims to provide hope and security to the victims of such unfortunate incident. The scheme mainly focuses on women/children victims of crimes including rape, murder, domestic violence, trafficking, it mentioned. He further said that in some instances even men folks are victims of such crimes. Rana also pointed out that most of such crimes are not reported or kept hidden due of fear or social stigma and due to which victims are not delivered justice.

KDLSA team also sensitized on other acts including Motor Vehicle Act, Legal Aid & Lok Adalat and Cyber Law. Nagali Shohe panel lawyer talking on ‘Cyber Law’ asked youths to be more vigilant while mentioning sections such as sec. 43, 66, 67 of the IT Act which included crimes and punishment of cyber crimes. Aketoli J Yeptho, panel lawyer said that legal aid services provided free legal assistance like legal consultation, drafting, or any legal related queries to the public and provides free legal services to anyone whose income is below One Lakh rupees. Awareness on Motor Vehicle Act was shared by Mika H Aye, panel lawyer. The awareness programme was attended by more than 130 beneficiaries.

Kiphire DLSA organized the legal seminar on the same subject at DC conference hall, Kiphire on February 15 with youth and women organizations of different churches in Kiphire district. Resource person N. Kano, secretary DLSA & CJM Kiphire said that the scheme was framed on December 18 wherein it provided for availing compensation fund to the victims who have suffered loss or injury as a result of crime. He stated that the maximum limit of compensation ranges from Rs. 200000 (Two lakhs) to Rs.20000/-(twenty thousand) depending on the nature of loss or injury. DLSAs shall award the compensation and the same shall be forwarded to secretary, Relief and Rehabilitation, Home department for approval.

Kunyangli Sangtam, panel lawyer shared about the aims and objectives of free legal service and free legal aid to marginalized section of society. Programme was chaired by Rebica T Sangtam, district project assistant and welcome note was delivered by Asuthong, PLV; attended by 41 participants.

Peren DLSA organized the awareness on February 13 at Jalukie B. Asungbe retainer lawyer Peren DLSA highlighted the working of legal services authority. Italang, panel lawyer spoke on “Nagaland victim compensation scheme 2012” and instructed procedures to apply for the scheme. Asuni,

panel lawyer spoke on domestic violence. Around 30 beneficiaries attended the programme.

Mokokchung DLSA conducted an awareness programme at Yimyu Baptist Church with the women organisation. Resource person I. Imkong Jamir, retainer lawyer also spoke on domestic violence act 2015. Altogether 47 number of beneficiary attended.

Longleng DLSA conducted awareness programme-cum-consultative meeting with Tamlu adhoc town committee and president Phomla Hoichem Tamlu unit on February 6 at Tamlu town. P Monyei Phom panel lawyer gave keynote address on the “Right to Legal Aid’’ and how DLSAs aides the underprivileged to avail justice. Town committee executive led by chairman and president Phomla Hoichem Tamlu unit also called to set up a legal aid clinic at the sub division, as it covers a large population and area.
