Spatial & Behaviour Mapping

I chose several places where waste activities are high. Then, decided on several items from those places with the highest number of being thrown away and followed their journey. From the mapping, we can also know the actors mainly using and throwing items. We can also learn what action is used on the waste, such as folding, shredding, etc.

Program

Material mapping and building systems are divided based on the transformation and spatial movement of the dominant six materials. It divides into five zones: organic laboratory + smelter machine, workshop area and processed shop, inorganic laboratory, fast food restaurant, and urban farming with kitchen. Each zone connects to a vertical conveyor system that divide into organic and inorganic conveyors

Water Pod

International Joint Workshop 2016 (built)

Location : Sabae, Japan

Tutors : Tohru Horiguchi, Endo Shuuhei, Kazuya Morita, Satoru Umehara

Team : Ni-Chin Tsai, Kim Daeyoon, U-Krit Tepsomboon, Chen Pengfeng, Synn Siveling

The Architectural Association of Nippon initiated this workshop as part of its broad educational projects encouraging Asian architectural communities, especially university students studying architecture and urban design throughout the Asia Pacific region.

The traditional artisan village of Sabae in Fukui Prefecture faces issues related to the shrinking population and the aging society. We decided to have a relaxing space at the local shrine, hoping it could be a place for people to gather and converse.

The shape of the space was inspired by the water droplets, symbolizng theriver running along the village. Using local materials, our group designed a space near the local shrine, at the final destination of the local festival path.

Using traditional Japanese material we collaborated with the local carpenters to learn about traditional japanese joinery and roping methods to construct our pod. The design was published at the local newspaper and ADAN Magazine.

Phase 1 Building the roof’s ring Phase 2 Adding bamboo strips Phase 3 FInished roof will be attached to base. Phase 4 Stacked wooden sticks are attached to the wodden planks to create the base. Phase 5 Finishing and more tying to secure.

Section A - A Design Development

Healing is a natural process of encountering undesirable conditions in everyday life. Learning from the spirit of Shinrin-Yoku, the Japanese way of forest “bathing,” is a natural healing ritual; our spirit heals when the sublime experiences of the unknown challenge us.

We believe that architecture could enable such kind of healing process by creating the mechanism of “unknown” by manipulating its defining boundaries and affects our sensory experiences simultaneously.

Using a water filter to reuse the water within the facility was one of our proposals to promote sustainability in the project to reduce everyday water use.

An office relocation project for the new Salesforce Tower Tokyo. Gregory Lyon is responsible for specifying Herman Miller items based on the design guidelines from Salesforce US and US design firms.

Salesforce’s design vision, “Future Workplace,” offers workspace and services to support different workstyles for a more distributed ‘flex’ workforce. By researching the user needs, the Salesforce US team created design guidelines for implementing area designation, which then translated into design strategies. From there, the furniture is then selected to answer the user’s needs.

Connect Seats for interactions. Desk Seats. Project Bay Area for collaborative work.
Examples of Design Strategy:
Focus Oriented Area. Front Porch for interactions. Social Lounge Area. Nihon Keizai Shimbun and the New Office Promotion Association announced that Salesforce Tower was selected for the 35th Nikkei New Office Award

Suginoko Nursery school is located in Miyazaki Perfecture, Japan. It aims to build a nursery school that can encourage children to play around freely within the architecture. It mimics the form of mountains as a playground for the children to promote healthy well-being.

The interior has flexible space usage: It can be turned into an event venue when it is not used as a school to promote community engagement in the neighbourhood.

Grass roof maintains the temperature on the 1st floor and also acts as a playground for children (photo: Shinsaku Munemoto) Roof form exploration to know the most efficient way to use material. 3D model exploration to combine grass roof + flooring material in the space. 20 Islands is an accomodation facility that creates relaxed time and space in the nature as if spending time on remote islands.

Everyone becomes a naturally different “islands” depending on the boundary between the guest room at the tip of the “branched” road and the environmental elements: water and forest around the site.

We propose a reasonable way to make 20 ‘islands’ where the family and friends spend a special time in Kyoto, Yase area.

Masterplan development:

Based on the Voronoi division, the guest room is divided with the shortest distance of access from the main road and with unrestricted views towards the mountains.

Lakes is then designed to give more privacy of access as well to maintain temperature around the guest room reducing the use of air conditioning.

Unlimited view to the mountains of Yase for every rooms while avoiding direct sunlight to the opening to prevent glare & overheating in the rooms.

Located in Purwokerto, Indonesia, a city in Central Java , famous for its water falls and Slamet mountain.

We proposed a residential area which acts as a sanctuary and is close to nature. The area’s master plan focused on pedestrians is injected with vegetation to promote a living space near nature.

The housing units are designed with energy efficiency, natural ventilation and lighting.

The combination of wood, concrete, glass, and vegetation on the units creates harmony as if connected with nature.
