WELCOME If you don’t know the Queen’s, we are the vibrant theatre in the London Borough of Havering, serving East London, Essex and beyond.

Our season ticket, Jump the Q, is the very best way to enjoy all of our in-house shows with tickets from just £12.50 a time.

We produce over eight productions, host over 140 visiting performances and welcome over 200,000 people a year. We also have an inspiring Learning and Participation programme.

Elsewhere, we’re thrilled to be co-producing award-winning theatre company Rifco’s modern musical Laila; 1001 Nights is a beautiful acclaimed show for 7-11-year-olds and their families; and we also welcome the TONY award-winning musical Avenue Q.

In October I took up the position of Artistic Director. I’ve been overwhelmed by how much we do and thrilled by the passion shown for this theatre. I hope to match this with some extremely exciting plans for the future. Before that we have a special spring season of firsts. I will direct my first show for the Queen’s, Shakespeare’s joyous Much Ado About Nothing. This is followed by two premieres: The Silver Gym, a raucous comedy penned by and starring TV favourite Nichola McAuliffe, and a big-hearted country and western musical aptly named The Romford Rose from Chris Bond, the writer of Sweeney Todd.

Our desire is to entertain and inspire you in the way only live performance can. We hope you will join us at one of more than 200 events this spring.

Douglas Rintoul Artistic Director

1001 NIGHTS Written by Douglas Rintoul

HHHH '...harnessing its audience’s imagination in a continuous game of let’s-pretend and holding everyone, young and old alike, quite spellbound. An utter delight.' Telegraph

For ages 7–11 and their families 1001 Nights collects together some of the greatest folk tales ever told. Here they are re-imagined by Shahrazad – a lively young girl who, torn between her old home in the East and her new life in London, re-tells the extraordinary stories of her childhood to her new-found friend, who understands not a single word she says… Using the things she finds around her, Shahrazad fashions saucepans into crowns, old pipes into enchanted telescopes and a mop into a magic carpet to transport us to a fantastical and imagined world of kings, viziers, and genies. This compelling, funny and totally absorbing play wowed audiences at the Unicorn Theatre and across the UK and now comes to the Queen’s. See page 22 for Drama Workshops
