TERRIFIC TRIMMERS It’s been a memorable 21 years for Gadenne Motor Trimming’s owners and staff.
L
ife could have been very different for Trevor and Hilda Watts if they hadn’t seen an ad spruiking a business for sale while they were holidaying in Mooloolaba. The Toowoomba couple, who were on the Sunshine Coast in April 1996, saw potential in the then 10-year-old Gadenne Motor Trimming business and just two months later, they had relocated and taken over the helm. Having owned and operated the successful Trevor the Trimmer business in Brisbane until 1988, the couple already knew a thing or two about what it took to stand out from the crowd and they quickly found their feet. They started out with help from one of former owner John Gadenne’s staff members and were soon joined by their youngest son Brenden, who also relocated from Toowoomba, to become an apprentice motor trimmer. “Brenden stayed on with us until late last year when he decided it’s time for a career change and joined the building industry,” Trevor says. “During his time with us, he took up the role of workshop manager, which allowed me to semi-retire for a period of time so as my wife and I could do some caravanning together. “Brenden’s efforts during these years helped our business obtain many awards for his talented skills.” The business will celebrate its 21st anniversary under Watts’ watch this year and in that time, he has trained up four apprentices and assisted many more with job or school work experience. In November last year, Peter Mackenzie came on board as

motor trimmer and has joined Watts “on the tools”. “Since Peter has joined our business our work load has continued to flourish. We are now awaiting our next member to join our team in August,” Trevor says. With countless makes and models of cars, motorbikes and boats to work on, the team has seen it all when it comes to requests for retrims, custom designs, restoration and convertible soft-top repairs.
