LETTER FROM THE PUBLISHER, MARK ALAN SHAFFER. AS WE HEAD INTO 2021… REFLECTING ON 2020 AND HOW WE MOVE FORWARD! I think we can all agree that 2020 has been one helluva year! From Corona, to Protests, to Elections, to Faith verses Fear, to dividing our country, and haters coming out everywhere! But here at MyVegas, we stay #VegasStrong because even in these uncertain times, we know one thing is for certain, and that is, God has the last word. And the Good News is that our belief system is based on the Word, and that “This Too Shall Pass.” In business, most important to us is our clients, our community, and being a Light in the middle of all this Darkness. We believe that Love will win all battles in the end. In our community, we believe that if we all approach our differences, our neighbors, our friends and not-so-friends, with LOVE, then we are following God’s wishes. Right below God, we believe that family comes first. The ones we love the most and call family, and that doesn’t always mean your natural family, sometimes we create a new family from the good souls and people we meet along the way. And to love and support our families, we all have to work… which is why at MYVEGAS, we continue to promote the good business community we have here in our fine city. So as we march into a new year and a new normal, as people have coined it, at MyVegas we continue to feature and pro-

mote real and true people in Las Vegas, that own businesses, eat at restaurants, have kids and families, and love our city. These are the clients and businesses you will find among the following pages. We like to remind you to SHOP LOCAL, which supports our entire community as we all depend on each other for one thing or another! Let’s all continue to support our local grown companies and businesses, as a way to give back to the city that has given us so much, a community, and a place to call our home. This issue we are proud to announce a few new features you’re sure to enjoy! The TOP 100 IN THE PALM OF YOUR HANDS! We’ve added a special feature to your phone that puts the Top 100 Attorneys, in the Palm of your Hand! Also, the Top 100 Doctors, the Top 100 Realtors, and the Top 100 Restaurants! Try it out! You’re gonna love it! www.MyVegasMag.com We are also proud to roll out our new MyVegas Digital Advertising Programs, for our local business clients who are partial to online marketing. This will give your business or yourself the opportunity to get in front of our readers in a different way, the new era of advertising is here and as the world goes digital, so does MyVegas! Also, by client special request, this year we have launched the new “MyVegas PR Company.” You want a Press Release done? We gotcha covered! And we’ll deliver your Press Release to over 150 Press Agencies including TV, Radio, Magazines, Newspapers, Major Blogs, Networking Groups, Associations and Targeted Business Firms to help you… “Get the Word Out!” In addition to PR, we will manage all your Social Media platforms. As you already know, Social Media Marketing is rising rapidly as a very important busi-

ness tool, for everyone. However, the challenge for most, is the time and load it takes. At MyVegas, we take the load off, with a choice of three different packages, and frequency posts from either daily or weekly, as well as managing your Facebook and Instagram ads. And if you Love Las Vegas, you’re gonna Love the new “I MyVegas” t-shirts for Charity program! Now you can purchase your very own I MyVegas t-shirt online at: www.MyVegasMag.com/tshirt. T

he end of the year is finally here and with the holiday season approaching, many of us are wondering how to make it work while still being safe. Whether you’re planning on staying home for the holidays, spending time with friends and family or traveling, always remember to be considerate of those around you. For those who don’t have any plans, you can always grab a blanket, some hot cocoa and throw on your favorite movies, tv shows, grab a good book or get out in your community and volunteer. With the year we’ve had, it’s easy to lose sight of what’s important to us but we must keep the joy and spirit alive and be kind to one another. MYVEGAS is growing, and in this issue I am proud to announce our newest section, MYLatino. This section will focus on Spanish-speaking businesses, the Latin community and the best part is, it will all be in Spanish, ¡Qué alegría! We’ve also welcomed a few new faces to the team and am happy to watch them learn, grow and succeed with us. Welcome to the MYVEGAS family Daniela, Valerie,

Patti and Ariani! Speaking of new faces, one you are probably familiar with will now be our Entertainment Editor, entertainment headliner Chris Phillips AKA Zowie Bowie! He will surely bring some entertainment into our lives, and we are happy to have him! In this issue, we featured Las Vegas’ Top 100 Women. These astonishing women play a vital role in our city and I applaud each and every one of them for being the leaders that they are. Bravo ladies! Just bought a new house? Need your space redesigned? You’re in luck because we have highlighted the Top 10 Interior Designers in this issue as well. They have the creative knowledge and an eye for beauty that’ll create a space you’ll be proud to call your own. Whatever you’re looking for, whether it be a doctor, a real estate agent, an attorney, or simply restaurant recommendations, you’ll be sure to find it here. If not no worries, make sure you check out our website for even more, www.myvegasmag.com As we close out this year, it’s time to start thinking and planning for 2021. What

goals do you want to accomplish? Fitness? Career? Relationship? Keep your focus on what you are trying to achieve, work hard, stay motivated and keep going. WOMAN WITH A MISSION OR TWO: LYNDA TACHE Lynda Tache was a single mom raising her son, Grant, who lived with autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and a learning disability.

L

ike any good parent Lynda wanted her son to have a life filled with hope, purpose and acceptance, which instigated Lynda’s calling as the founder of her son’s namesake, Grant a Gift for Autism Foundation. The foundation helps families as they learn to integrate into the community; find social opportunities; and live productively. The program has been successful for hundreds of families. Grant a Gift for Autism began 12 years ago, and the foundation continues to be successful in treating autism. Today, Lynda’s son is a young adult. Grant has achieved his own success working at a local grocery store and having his own apartment. Lynda realized services and socialization were important to her son’s success, a motivating factor for changing gears and starting her latest project which incorporates the inclusion of peer engagement, social interaction, recreation, therapy, autism, and education to enhance the lives of all ages with Intellectual, Developmental, and Physical Disabilities (IDPD). As co-founder of the Collaboration Center Foundation (CCF), Lynda recognized that teamwork, alliances, and cooperation would be the ‘change maker’ to fully engage the entire community. The first

8

thing on Lynda’s list was to establish a core program in Las Vegas: Pathways Case Management and Care Coordination, a free service with a concierge experience to support individuals, family members and caregivers to come together by connecting community services, support groups, education workshops, insurance navigation and ways to access funding for state and local services. Coordination of community services would aid individuals from birth through adulthood. The services would include an individual’s family members, caregivers, and peers with genetic conditions or other related disorders such as down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, the deaf and the blind. The campus offers Education Therapy and Planning Advocacy, Marriage and Family Therapy. There are also support groups for case management and community living skills. In addition, numerous social experiences are going on like game nights, family movie nights, birthdays and other party events. CCF is on a sprawling 5-acre ranch in SW Las Vegas, the community hub for those with special needs. CCF works with local non-profits, providers, and government agencies. The Collaboration Center offers amenities such as a community pool,

picnic areas, café and coffee shop, retail area, and a working garden. Activities include a putting course, an adaptive playground, multi-purpose sports and basketball court, inside and outside spaces for events and movies on the lawn. Also, a meditation garden, walking trails, a private 7,500 sq. ft. house with a game room, a ‘Life Skills Kitchen’, gym, meeting and treatment rooms, and a private 1,350 sq. ft. guest house for community living training. CCF has put together a medical advisory committee to create an interdisciplinary group of medical and mental health professionals who can deliver telemedicine to rural areas and reach experts outside of Nevada. The goal is to remove the distance and financial barriers that prevent access to care. CCF has a new medical clinic that can diagnose and treat different disorders, provide mental health services and medication management. CCF is open for all ‘special needs’ families who want to experience a safe and welcoming place. “Come as you are. You are not alone!” www.CollabLV.org MV By Dawn Gibbons

THE LAW OF CHANGE There is a law that has a constant and dramatic effect in our life, and that law is the law of change. The law of change states that everything is in the process of becoming something else.

life. Relationships end, businesses fail, a death happens in the family, we lose our job, we have a major health issue, we get wiped out financially, a pandemic hits. While crises are never enjoyable, they are almost always transformational. Why? Because the crisis forces us to make changes we never would

have made prior to the crisis. A crisis is like a forceful, abrupt change tornado which initiates dramatic change whether you like it or not. So whatever crisis you may presently be going through, embrace it as a tremendous opportunity. Say “thank you” no matter how devastating it may be, the gifts of it will show through in time. If we learn to embrace that change is always going to be a constant, we can better prepare ourselves to see all change as a positive opportunity to make the best of this life. MV

BEYOND BROTOX

Gone are the days that med spas are just for the ladies! Guys want healthy and rejuvenated skin too.

C

hic La Vie Med Spa has a luxe gender-neutral vibe that allows our male clientele to feel pampered and comfortable. Some men need a little gentle guidance when it comes to skincare, or some don’t know where to start. The average man doesn’t know what his skin type is, and what products and procedures will serve him best to achieve his goals. On the esthetician side of Chic La Vie, we offer a variety of services that are applicable to the skincare needs of our male clientele (just as much as it applies to the female demographic). A few common concerns to be addressed: skin tightening, hyperpigmentation due to sun damage, skin textural concerns, scars, hair loss, and hair removal. We have a variety of modalities to help put your best face forward: HydraFacial, chemical peels, Tribella, Venus Viva, IPL and Venus Versa, Fraxel Dual Laser, and Cutera Excel V, Laser Genesis, and Ultherapy. We also provide the best facelift alternative of PDO Thread Lifts that give results the same day and months after your procedure, as the threads naturally produce collagen. On the body and hair procedures, we offer Coolsculpting, Venus Freeze, laser hair removal, and laser scar treatment, as well as PRP hair restoration and the NeoGraft hair transplant.

to appear less tired and more refreshed, fillers can help you with that. These are injected into the skin to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, fill out cheek hollows, and minimize volume loss due to the natural aging process. The Registered Nurse injector and estheticians work synergistically to develop a customized treatment plan to help the patient achieve their goals. “My philosophy when it comes to injectables and aesthetics is to embrace the patient’s authentic appearance, while maximizing facial optimization, thereby providing a result that is refined and customized considering the patient’s goals and features,” says Erin McCart, R.N., Cosmetic Injector. On the cosmetic injectables side of the practice, we can minimize fine lines and wrinkles using neuromodulators like Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin. Don’t be discouraged by the needles, guys! Neuromodulators use a tiny insulin syringe needle that makes it quite comfortable and totally bearable for a matter of a few minutes of superficial and quick needle pokes. FASTING FOR BEGINNERS A lot of people want to fast but don’t really understand it, so I want to break it down nice and simple. Let’s dive into the 3 main things you need to know before fasting. • How to ease into fasting • When to eat • What to eat An easy way to ease into it is by pushing breakfast back a bit… But what does breakfast even mean? It means, BREAK-FAST. You are breaking your fast, since most of us don’t eat in our sleep. So, fueling yourself properly is important. This is why we are told breakfast is the most important meal of the day… but we aren’t told you can have it at any time of the day. I naturally have always fasted. I’m just not hungry in the morning. I started having a protein shake with oats (typical bodybuilding diet) in it every morning and all the sudden, I gained weight, felt super tired, bloated and had no motivation to work out. I just figured I was getting older and that’s just what happens. So, I stuck it out for about a year until I had enough of feeling like crap. I decided to go back to my old ways…My fasted workouts. No breakfast in the morning. I would weight train then do interval cardio right after. I dropped about 15lbs in one month. I went back to having amazing energy and flying through my workouts. Then this whole intermittent fasting thing popped up and I was very curious about learning it. As I did more research, I understood why I felt better not eating as much. Fasting allows your body to detox, heal and cleanse since it isn’t constantly breaking down food. Most people eat about 12-16 hours a day, so it doesn’t give your body a lot of time to recover or tap into the stored fat. I start eating usually around 12 and stop by 6. On the weekends, I don’t fast, and I eat pretty bad. I eat around 8am and stop when I feel like it. Sometimes, that not until 8pm. That way I do switch it up, refeed and don’t feel deprived because by Monday, I am usually wanting to be healthy and get back to less processed shit.

16

BENEFITS OF FASTING: • • • • • • • • •

Balances Hormones Burns More Fat Anti-Aging Weight Loss Improved Performance Steady Energy Through the Day Detox Internal Healing Boost immune system

Want to know if fasting is for you? I would recommend easing into it. Everyone is different so only way to know is to try it for yourself. For example, go for a walk on an empty stomach then continue to advance each week like next week do an easy workout fasted then continue to up it. Some people can’t do it because they get light headed and dizzy. If that is the case then obviously, I would say eat, get your workout done and stop eating at a certain time each night so you can still do some fasting. Easiest eating window to start with is, start eating at 10am then stop by 7pm. As you advance and get use to fasting, you can mess with your windows. That’s what I do. Most days, I eat at noon and stop by 6pm. But there are some days, I eat at 11am and don’t stop until 7pm. It is totally on you and your schedule when you want to start and stop eating. And when I say your schedule, it’s because some people start working at 10am and can’t eat then so it is ok to eat before or after and adjust your windows that way. How many meals should I do? That is once again, your call! Some people thrive with eating 1 time a day. I prefer 2 meals a day and maybe a snack. Just depends on how hungry I get. I usually start my clients off with 3 or 4 meals depending on their preference then adjust depending on how they respond to it. So, I recommend doing the same! We are brainwashed to believe we need to eat every 3 to 4 hours but that’s not true. You only need to eat when you are hungry.

What should I eat when I break my fast? I always recommend eating a lean protein and a healthy fat. I usually do eggs, cheese and avocado. I don’t recommend breaking a fast with carbs. This spikes your insulin higher than protein and fats and since we are so insulin sensitive when we break a fast, we do have to be careful with what we consume while breaking it. After meal 1, you can start adding carbs again. Of course, I recommend Whole Foods not processed carbs. So meaning potatoes, rice, oats not cake, donuts and all of that. Save that for your cheat treats. If you want to dive deeper on this topic, let’s jump on a call to see what you truly need and how to get you to your goal. Book your call here.MV By TANA ASHLEE

LET LOVE GUIDE YOU Introducing the story of Kellie and Joe. Maybe it was destiny, or maybe fate. Whatever it is, love prevailed, even through a pandemic.

T

his is the story of how it all came to be.

Kellie: Joe told me after a couple of months of dating, he will marry me someday. Through our toughest challenges and family losses, he kept his promise in 2019, proposing to me on my 25th birthday celebration surrounded by family and friends! Joe: We found the perfect place in the mountains, outside of Las Vegas, for our special day. We had no idea COVID-19 would hit as hard as it did, plus ended up having three different coordinators within the first few months of planning! Months of uncertainty, we prayed and prayed for our wedding to happen, whatever it was going to look like.

Joe: In 2012/13, I knew of Kellie through social media friends. Mostly thinking how beautiful she is looking at her pictures. Her eyes, “oh her amazing baby blues. They mesmerized me every time I saw her posts. Kellie: I knew of Joey through Facebook. We shared many mutual friends. Actually, his little sister and I shared a room during a middle school summer camp! Joe: It was to my surprise, when I actually met her, for the first time she took my breath away. She was just as beautiful and outgoing in person as she looked in her pictures. Kellie: We met while attending a party, invited by a mutual friend. We instantly connected. His smile, his sense of humor and such tenderness, zapped my heart every time he spoke. We laughed for the entire evening, not wanting to say goodbye. Joe: A few weeks later Kellie moved into my co-ed, off-college campus dorm. We grew very close and became best friends. Six months later, I asked Kellie if she would be my girlfriend and we became inseparable!

30

Kellie: We made it through June, with a perfect bridal shower. Through quarantine we were unsure if we would be able to keep our wedding date. Our list was 150 people and shocked by the Hotel advising us, only 50 were allowed. Miraculously, the mountain Fire Marshall approved our request to welcome 100 guests.. Joe: Then a couple of WEEKS before the wedding a campfire started a massive forest fire just a few miles from the hotel. Kellie: We truly thought maybe God was telling us to postpone, and instead of giving up, we prayed and left everything in His hands. Joe: The forest fire spread thousands of acres overnight, so we sadly began to prepare for the possibility of not having our wedding. Thankfully, the venue was untouched by this raging wildfire. Kellie: Finally, July 25, 2020, we gathered our families and friends to celebrate together our fairytale wedding. Magically, we forgot about everything going on in the world around us. Joe: We are very proud to say we took safety seriously, and no one came sick or became sick. Finally, the most incredible honeymoon, happily married and excited for the next chapters on our journey together forever as one! MV Us...Love Conquers All

MEET THE WOMAN BEHIND SIKARA Aisha is the dedicated founder and co-owner of Sikara Medspa. She also serves as the president. Her husband, Dr. Sheikh, is co-owner and serves as the on-site medical director. They created Sikara Medspa out of a desire to provide a luxury, high-end medspa where people’s needs are not only met, but also understood.

T

ogether they have two children, ages 11 and 8. Aisha left the world of finance to become a mother to her two boys. As they have grown up, she elected to venture back into the business world, where she strives to make a difference by bringing out the best in people in many ways.

How do you find the time to balance being a mother and being the president of a company? Truly, it is all about the people you surround yourself with. My husband is incredibly supportive, and we share a lot of the responsibilities of raising our sons. Sikara may be a new business, but our team is phenomenal, and each of them are experienced and highly skilled at their respective crafts. I may be “President,” but it really is a team effort. I am so proud of our team and all that they bring to the table. What made you choose to open a medspa? As a teenager, I had acne. I would say that I have spent the better part of my adult years trying to improve those scars. In my early twenties, I went to see a dermatologist in the LA area. After evaluating my skin, he said “you could be pretty, if you didn’t have these scars.” As the owner of an aesthetics practice, I will never allow any of our clients to be made to feel that way. Beauty, to me, is about much more than your physical appearance; it is about confidence and feeling good about ourselves. Unfortunately, many of us find that our confidence is hindered by what we see as ‘flaws.’ Sikara is about so much more than superficial beauty to me. It is about helping people address their concerns so that they can feel beautiful and confident. They can go out into the world and do everything they want to do without feeling held back by their insecurities. I believe addressing those things allows people to change their lives.

It has been tricky learning to navigate through a pandemic; how have you and your company learned to navigate through those challenges to not only sustain, but to thrive? Opening in the middle of a pandemic meant we had to reevaluate how we do things and be strict about our cleaning procedures. We do our absolute best to ensure the safety of our guests and our team. Furthermore, having an on-site medical director not only helps to affirm our commitment to the safety of our guests, but also allows us to provide all aspects of their experience in a safe and effective manner. We do this while still meeting the rigorous standards that are set forth during this historical time. How do we thrive? It is about having the utmost faith in our business and our mission. It is about our team, the services we offer, and the results we help achieve that make Sikara what it is. Any challenges we face do not change who we are. What advice would you give to anyone facing the same challenges you may face? Be adaptable. Surround yourself with people who are willing to work through a challenge and find a feasible solution. Whether it be a pandemic or any other challenge, just be open-minded and think of the big picture. I believe in every area of our lives we must be adaptable and fluid. Things do not always go according to plan, but we must do the best we can in any situation. When I envisioned opening our doors, it was quite different in my head. The pandemic changed things. We made the decision to proceed with our opening and focus on our vision, our philosophy — and allow that to speak for itself.

“If you are going to do something, do it properly.” 36

How would you describe your vision for Sikara? Sikara is unique. We are results driven, and our business is transformational, not transactional. You can feel safe and understood; we can help our clients achieve medical-grade results, but in a luxury, high-end, spa-like environment. Medical grade does not have to feel sterile! Sikara is an experience, and I cannot wait for all our guests to enjoy every moment of that experience. What words do you live by? “If you are going to do something, do it properly.” My mother instilled these values in me from a young age and to this day, I firmly believe in that philosophy. I try to incorporate that mantra in every area of my life. It is something I teach my kids as well. I believe that if you take the time to do something, you owe it to yourself to give whatever it is 100% of your effort, otherwise it is just a waste of time. It is something that I hope people see every time they walk through the doors at Sikara. MV

SHARING THE BLESSING

MEET MACALA MEJIA OF FAIRWAY MORTGAGE The home I grew up in was centered around faith and hard work. I was always encouraged to pursue God as my priority and work hard as an outpouring of my faith.

I

had the benefit of watching both of my parents be examples of this on a daily basis, sacrificing to raise their four daughters with faith, love, and discipline. I’ve taken these principles, learned from them, and work hard to provide the same life for my daughter. It’s my greatest joy in life to be a wife and mother. I couldn’t do any of this if it weren’t for my amazing husband who supports me and works just as hard to raise our beautiful daughter. He also shows me such unconditional love and support and after 13 years together, I’m grateful that God placed him in my life. Serving others and loving people is the foundation of how I want to live my life. My career is an extension of that world view, in that I’m able to help people with their dream of homeownership, while building relationships with the amazing team that we have at Fairway Mortgage. I started in this business 7 years ago, and I knew that I was in the right career from the moment I started. This industry has the unique privilege of helping people every day. I get to not only help my personal clients reach their goals of owning a home, but I aid my team by providing stability on the operations side, so they can, in turn, provide good service to their clients and realtors. We have great people on our operations team that truly care about each client. I’ve personally seen the difference of what our team provides versus the competition, and I can honestly say our team works harder and with more care than anyone in our industry. I’ve found my success by learning from the leadership that God has placed in my

life. From the head of our company at Fairway, who leads with honesty, transparency and kindness, to our Senior vice presidents, Patrick and Bill, who gave me my first chance to get into the career I wanted to be in as an Operations Manager. They believed in me and set me up for success early on. I am here because of them and I want to make sure to not squander that opportunity. They lead by example and our whole team respects the time and effort they put into supporting their region. I work knowing that my actions are a testament to my character and faith, and I work for my clients and loan officers to show them how much I care, not only for them, but also for their success. We have amazing people at our company who strive for greatness and take seriously the responsibility of helping people with one of the biggest purchases of their lives. They don’t lose sight of the pursuit of excellence and I’m proud to work with them. My position as an Operations Manager allows me to cultivate relationships with all aspects of the mortgage industry, and I get to see people thrive; all their hard work is going to help people with something so valuable, homeownership. Anyone who has the opportunity to work with them as a team member or a client is blessed. WE ALL NEED A LITTLE THERAPIE Therapie Boutique started as just a form of “therapie” for boutique owner, Jessica Boone. Now, standing as the destination for boho-chic and contemporary styles, customers from all over the valley can truly enjoy some retail therapie!

G

et to know owner and founder of Therapie Boutique, Jessica Boone, as she continues her journey in the fashion game!

Q A

How did you get started?

This whole journey started from a blog, when my husband and I started infertility treatments. It was such an emotionally, spiritually, and physically taxing experience. I have always used my creativity as an emotional outlet, so I began writing everything from how I was feeling to the medications I was taking, what I was eating, where we were traveling to, and the shopping trips I was taking to make myself feel better. I had this little online community who were all going through the same triumphs and trials as we were, and it definitely provided some comfort. I was cheered on through every win and comforted through every loss. There was not a single moment in that three-year journey when I felt as if I was the only woman struggling. I knew as our time with IVF was coming to a close that I wanted to pivot this thing I had built. I considered all of the ways I could bring women some Therapie and the boutique space seemed like a no brainer. I wanted to serve women who might otherwise struggle to find unique pieces that fit well. I started online in 2017 while we continued treatments and signed for my first physical space at the end of 2019.

Q A

Where did the name Therapie Boutique come from?

My blog was very much my own personal form of Therapie and I continue to write there occasionally to this day. Every time a person asks about our name I am given the opportunity to share little pieces of my story and the issues that brought me here. There is power behind our individual stories and I just happened to turn mine into a brand. I still have a form of the original Blog Therapie, shoptherapie.com online, Therapie Boutique here in Las Vegas, and even a Group Therapie on Facebook.

40

Q

What can customers expect when walking into your boutique for the first time?

their body. When I go to market or make a trip over to LA I always think, “How can I better serve these women?”

A

Q

Therapie Boutique is a place where contemporary and bohemian styles collide to bring you wearable trends for all of life’s adventures. We serve women size XS through 3X and I love to highlight that our larger sizes are not shoved in the back of the store in a way typical of most other retailers. I personally know the disheartening feeling of trying half the store on but walking out without having found anything so paying close attention to the fit of every piece we stock is important to me.

Q A

What do you find exciting about your job every day?

I love playing in all the clothes and discovering the fabrics or patterns that make me happy, but I find the most joy in styling women for all of life’s new chapters. I’ve had women come to me after losing a significant amount of weight and needing a new wardrobe, women who need encouragement after a relationship change, and even women who once thought a certain style would never fit

How do you enjoy getting involved in the community?

A

We all need a little Therapie and it is my prayer every single day that I can spread some of it here in Las Vegas. I am a proud member of Women United. One of my favorite events is our annual suit drive in November where we collect professional wear for local return-to-work programs. I also sit on the Board of Directors for the Las Vegas Fashion Council. Not only do we strive to expand the Las Vegas economy through the fashion industry, but we also provide financial assistance to students and emerging artists through LVFC grants. I love our Little Black Dress event that we hold every December as a design competition for local designers and students. Visit Therapie Boutique on the corner of Sahara Ave and Fort Apache Rd! BUILDING LAS VEGAS ONE HOUSE AT A TIME Some people have dreams, while some stumble upon exactly what is meant for them. For Dianna Mendez, it was real estate. More so, it was finding investment real estate deals.

B

orn in Mexico, Dianna moved to Las Vegas at an early age. Dianna was raised to value the hard work her parents did in order to move to the United states. Respecting that vision that her parents worked for, she began to work at the age of 15 for a realtor who helped her parents buy a house in 2010. Dianna always dreamed of bigger and greater things out there. And because that realtor believed in this sweet 15-year-old, Dianna worked her way to buying distressed properties and finding homeowners who need the help to sell and became passionate about helping people sell their distressed homes or find a home to renovate into their dream home. Today, Dianna Mendez has opened Best Cash Offer LLC, a house flipping company where she buys all types of homes in all types of conditions. She explains, “We’ve helped many homeowners in the most difficult times, where they almost lost their house and the only option was to sell before they were foreclosed out.” Best Cash Offer helps with moving expenses and will provide an affiliated moving company for no charge, truly going to the moon for her clients. They have helped clients with moves from Nevada to California and moves to another country. Going above and beyond the call of duty, Dianna has even flown across the country to find relatives of an owner that passed away, so that they could sign a probate to sell the property and made them a cash deal in less than 5 days. “They were the happiest people in the whole wide world,” recalls Dianna. Dianna still gains the same rewarding feeling to help sellers improve their quality of living and the neighborhood, for future generations. Best Cash Offer LLC is able to help a whole community by improving a house that was vacant and boarded and a target for criminal activity, while helping a family find closure. From

MEET THE MCKENNA TEAM When Tim McKenna joined the Las Vegas real estate community in 1978, he had visions of providing for his family and working with other families to realize their dreams of home ownership. Over the past 42 years, “McKenna” has grown to become one of the most respected names in the industry.

T

he Mckenna Team is a full-service real estate group that offers unparalleled professional knowledge and customer service. With a thriving residential sales team and a property management company that enjoys its status as one of the top in the valley, The McKenna Team carries on Tim’s original vision of helping it’s clients achieve their home ownership and real estate investment goals. The McKenna Team has enjoyed it’s fair share of the “luck o’ the Irish” during its history, which has spanned six decades.

44

In the late 1970’s, a wee Irish lass named Jenni Mckenna joined her father at the office on a Saturday and played “assistant,” answering phone calls and organizing the desk. That day, Jenni told her father that she wanted to be his partner in real estate. Tim told her that he would be glad to have her has a partner as soon as she was done with her figure skating.

The McKenna Team has enjoyed it’s fair share of the “luck o’ the Irish” during its history, which has spanned six decades.

Jenni never forgot that promise from Tim and when she wrapped up her professional figure skating career in 1993, she immediately got her real estate license and joined forces with her mentor and

Father, Tim McKenna. The McKenna team grew rapidly over the next 5 years as Jenni honed her skills in customer service, continuing to build a strong reputation in the community. In 1998, the dynamic

duo decided to join the upstart real estate company of Keller Williams, founded by Gary Keller, a real estate visionary who has since grown Keller Williams to be the top real estate company in the world. The Keller Williams culture was a perfect fit for Tim and Jenni. The focus is on family and community and always continuing to grow as a professional and an individual. The McKenna Team at Keller Williams was born and continues to this day as a strong presence in the Las Vegas Valley.

In 2005, the McKenna Team made a decision that would affect its growth trajectory, they decided to open a property management company. In 2005, the McKenna Team made a decision that would affect its growth trajectory, they decided to open a property management company. With a growing number of their clients that were investing in residential real estate, it was clear that there was a need for a high-performance management company that could provide top notch customer service and safeguard these valuable real estate assets. McKenna Property Management, established in 2005, is that company, currently managing over 1,100 properties, along with a highly qualified staff, has changed the game in property management. Under the watchful eye of Jenni McKenna and with a keen sense of reputation and word of mouth, McKenna Property Management makes customer service and customer satisfaction a top priority. The meteoric growth of McKenna Property

Management can be attributed mostly to customer referrals. Jenni’s philosophy has always been to keep people happy and they will tell other people about you. McKenna Property Management utilizes highly detailed systems to eliminate issues and runs on a very efficient level, using sophisticated database software and other online services. Jenni McKenna is acutely aware of the ever-changing technology landscape and is always searching for more efficient ways to operate. The growth and innovation inside of the company only serves to improve their owners. McKenna Property Management offers its clients full-service property management services, allowing them to not worry about their investments. By handling everything from leasing to move-out, McKenna Property Management clients frequently comment on how easy it is to own investment properties! They tout the fact that if it was not for the rent coming into their account each month, owners might forget they even have investment properties.

CONTINUING A LEGACY To find the perfect recipe, you first need the perfect ingredients. And that’s what our founders Dena Tripp and Debbie Shwetz were for each other. Today, the children of Dena and Debbie, Jenna Lamb and Sean Tripp (pictured below), are continuing the legacy their parents began.

I

n 1997, friends Dena Tripp and Debbie Shwetz joined forces, or better yet kitchens, to make cakes for their friends and family. The cakes they made were delicious, unlike anything anyone had tasted. They quickly realized this side project of theirs could be something more. There was a gap in the world for delicious, readily-available cakes that didn’t compromise on their ingredients. Real eggs, butter and cream cheese; nothing was too good to achieve perfection. And perfection is that decadent, slowly melting bite of cake we all know and love. Flash forward and the Nothing Bundt Cakes brand has grown nationwide and in Canada. Built on Dena and Debbie’s vision, each bakery still has the warmth and nostalgia of its home-kitchen roots while taking a modern approach for the world today. When the company began, Debbie’s oldest child, Jenna, was 14 years old and Dena’s oldest Son, Sean, was 9. As they were growing up, both kids worked in the bakery, helping with everything from dishes to deliveries, especially during the very busy holiday times. Today, Jenna and Sean are multi-unit owners and operators in Las Vegas furthering the legacy of Nothing Bundt Cakes in its hometown. After college, Jenna came on board at the Las Vegas-Eastern bakery as a Manager for a year prior to transferring to the Franchise Development side of the business. She took over as Director of Franchising when the brand had 13 franchised locations, and for the next decade, she dove headfirst into Franchising and found her passion helping other families realize their dreams of business ownership. This experience ultimately led her to desire owning a bakery for her own family, and in 2017, she opened the doors to her first location on Rainbow Blvd. and Warm Springs Rd. in Southwest Las Vegas. Three years later, she serves as Chair of the Brand Advisory Council and is in the process of opening a second location in the Henderson area in late 2021.

48

Sean was 15 when he had his first real job as a dishwasher for the Las Vegas-Sahara bakery. He worked weekends, major holidays, and during the summertime throughout high school, progressing from dishwasher, to baker’s assistant, delivery driver, and froster. After high school, Sean attended college in Las Vegas, pursuing a business degree, and continued to work in the bakeries. During that time, Nothing Bundt Cakes formed a distribution company to accommodate their expanding franchise network. Sean and his father, Blaine, laid the groundwork for this effort, which now services over 360 franchise locations. Sean left college to follow his passion and attended culinary school in Napa Valley, California. He returned to Las Vegas and

worked for various restaurants but eventually found his way back to the bakery in 2014. He has also worked with corporate to train new Franchisees and open new bakeries around the country. Today, he is the owner and operator of 2 Las Vegas bakeries and 1 in Huntington Beach, California. “We feel incredibly honored to carry on the legacy our Mothers began and love being able to bring joy to our communities during a time when they need it most. We want to continue to build on our relationships with our Community partners and remain a household name in Las Vegas with an unwavering commitment to quality and guest experience. It’s been a sweet ride so far!” MV nothingbundtcakes.com

DR. SUSAN FENECK IN HER OWN WORDS It is always a pleasure to sit down with Dr. Susan Feneck to talk about her newest endeavors.

N

ominated once again as one of our MYVEGAS Top 100 Women of Influence, Dr. Feneck was happy to share the history behind why she chose to pursue a tough subject matter, Juvenile Justice reform. I asked her one question, “Did you know you would be advocating this cause for years to come?” This is Dr. Susan Feneck’s answer, in her own words…

life. Even through the struggles and countless sacrifices it took to get to this very day, I was always inspired. The back story is truly unbelievable really, what movies are made of. It’s an understatement to say just how grateful I am for the unending support of my family, mostly my very loving beloved

‘Previous to graduating, I thought for sure I was going to be utilizing my two business degrees and the other two counseling and psych degrees with a goal of corporate counseling such as stress managements and helping business leaders with managing the pressures and demands of the corporate world. Having written my doctoral dissertation on at risk youth, little did I know it was paving the way for me advocating for the cause of injustice in the Juvenile Justice “System.” When it came time for me to pick a dissertation topic, I was at a loss. One of my friends said to me, “why don’t you write about all of the kids on the news always getting in trouble, it really seems to bother you…” and there was my dissertation topic. Upon graduating, I was offered a position to work as a Child Psychologist in the Department of Forensic Mental Health, I knew at that point it was no coincidence it would be a reflection of the rest of my life’s work. The position entailed working with the same population as what I had just written my doctoral dissertation on, seriously, what are the chances? It is my destination, my life’s path and never looked back. It was meant to be my purpose in

father and my beautiful and very loving mother, friends and mentors. Without them, I seriously wouldn’t be anywhere on this path. I’m even grateful for my high school guidance counselor. When other students were taking the SAT’s to get into

~Dr. Susan Feneck

college, I asked him, “Do I need to be taking that test everyone is taking to get into college?” He said, “No Susan you aren’t going to college.” I was like, “ok” and just walked out of his office and went and cried in the bathroom feeling like the stupidest person in the world. That alone inspired me to see if I could beat all of the odds against me. Having zero confidence I could even get thru the first semester of my Associate Degree, because I believed my own guidance counselor, I literally from then on never took a semester off for twelve straight years, even while working sometimes two jobs, and here we are. There are only my mom and dad to thank for literally making me initially go to the local community college to start my journey. Anything is possible. I had big dreams and just never gave up no matter the depth of the falls and trust me there were many. I can’t express how much I appreciate the honor of having all of the nominations from my extraordinary peers. The topic of injustice in the Juvenile Justice “System,” is what really continues to be nominated, I’m just the messenger. The black light on the topic has gone on for far too long. I’m trying to be the bright light on the cause to get more justice in the system. So much so that I created the Juvenile Justice Impact Gala to share this movement with my peers, my community, and to the world. I may just be one voice, but together, we are still one voice, just stronger. The system is so broken, antiquated, outdated, barbaric and criminal in and of itself, there has to be immediate change, that is my one and only goal. MV

STRENGTH OF CHARACTER Cynthia Portaro, proud owner of Cyn’Sational, Inc., has been in the Interior Design Business for over thirty years. Her success in Las Vegas’ premier work is highly featured in residential and many commercial spaces throughout the valley.

Cynthia and her husband, Richard raised five children, Maressa, Rico, Michael, Joseph and Christina, here in Las Vegas. She is adoringly known in the community as “Momma P,” as she is called, by her many adopted sons and daughters of her children’s friends. She is also on the radar for her willingness to serve on numerous committees, raising funds for various charities. Life changed dramatically for her family on March 30, 2011, when the police came to their front door announcing their twenty-three-year-old son, Michael, had been brutally shot by a young man apparently in need of stealing a car. Wrong place, wrong timing for their son. She shared how devastating their lives became, but her faith in God never wavered. Faith it surely took, as just five months later her sixteen-year-old daughter, Christina died in a four-wheeler accident in Brian Head, UT, on September 3, 2011. In April 2012, Cynthia was diagnosed with Cancer and was told she had six months to live. Seven months later, Richard was diagnosed with cancer and lost his battle to the horrible disease on Thanksgiving Day of 2015. One would think, “How can she survive these tragedies?” Cynthia dug right in and began ministering to grieving parents, widows, and friends who have lost children and family members tragically from untimely deaths by sharing her pain and how she overcame beyond the unthinkable. She can be rightly described as a woman of steel as she did not allow her losses to define her life. She began to read,

52

searched online and talked to counselors for help to understand her pain. “Everything I read didn’t resonate from the standard box cutter stages of grief. So, I decided to share my story and write a book to not only grieving individuals, but also for those in need of understanding how to bring comfort to someone who’s lost a loved one, especially tragically and suddenly.” On July 1, 2020, her book was released on Amazon and became a #1 Best Seller in just three weeks, looking to make a difference with, “Beyond The Unthinkable.” Those who have shared reviews, have written on Amazon … “one you can’t put down.” “There is no way I can even judge or rate a book that comes from so deep within a human soul and unimaginable life experiences. I could not put this down. It is impossible to imagine walking in her footsteps but she allows us to walk beside her, helping her readers see how she found her way out of what must have felt like a living hell none of which she asked for,” said Karen.

Cynthia not only writes how to get through what you’ll never get over, she shares vivid details of her sons murder trial ”

“I would highly recommend you buy two of this book and gift it to someone who may be going through the grieving process. It truly gives hope to the hopeless,” said Mary. “Cynthia not only writes how to get through what you’ll never get over, she shares vivid details of her sons murder trial which began on February 15, 2015. How does anyone listen and watch what she had to witness is beyond my comprehension. Then what she does in that courtroom is truly “Beyond the Unthinkable,” said Peter. “Beyond The Unthinkable” is currently available on Amazon in Kindle and Paperback formats for readers across the globe, or www.cynthiaportaro.com for a personally signed copy. Her story is an epic journey you won’t want to miss. MV Follow Cynthia on Facebook @officialcynthiaportaro www.cynthiaportaro.com

AUTHOR

Writers always have a deep inspiration. Whether it be what they’ve been through in their life or something new that lights a fire underneath them. In the case of Denise Dixon, it is how she was thinking. More so, her mindset.

D

enise Dixon is a local Las Vegas author with the passion and commitment to do much more than just writing. Speaking on the topic of living in a wealthy mindset rather than a poverty mindset, Denise is creating traction with her new book release, quickly becoming an international best seller. Denise first started writing as a young girl, after seeing her father write poetry in her youth and sharing that with each other. Dreaming of writing poetry at an early age, as early as elementary school, she realized it would bring her peace and relieve stress. As an adult, Denise writes from her heart, with the aim to shed light in her community and educate people on tough subjects. Her commitment to Las Vegas continued when she purchased her own beauty school, the Cosmetology Institute, in 2015 and became a nationally accredited institution.

THE POWER of ONE

There seems to be nothing more powerful than one incredibly caring and passionate person. And in this case, it comes in a small, but mighty package. a big part in connecting people to these life changing resources. Wendy shares the story of a homeless, blind female veteran with a sight dog who was rescued by Henderson Police. Wendy connected her with Arnold Stalk with Veteran’s Village, who was able to provide her a small apartment 5 steps away from a dog park for her fur buddy. It really shows how valuable connecting with the right people can truly make the difference in someone’s life, jumping in at exactly the right time.

W

endy Wood, an Air Force Veteran, CEO of Sana Behavioral Health and Owner of Connections, is a petite, stiletto rocking renaissance woman, and Las Vegas is lucky to have her. It may be her courage, her determination, concern for the welfare of others, or just a pure mixture of all these qualities that make so many people place their trust in Wendy. Known for her zealous way of connecting people in the healthcare industry with the right people, Wendy is constantly one step ahead. She exemplifies how one person can positively change, even save, a life. Wendy’s 19-bed geriatric psychiatric hospital, Sana Behavioral Health Hospital, provides a caring and healing environment for veterans and those ages 50 years and older. A true healthcare industry angel, Wendy has undoubted credibility and standing in the healthcare world. While working in the field, she supports community referrals, which helps to connect people to the right level of care they need. Whether it’s psychiatric, medical care and resources, she is the one stop shop for connecting people. A faith-based woman, Wendy firmly believes that divine intervention often plays

54

Wendy has an incredible support system there to help her with her impeccable everyday goal. Kathryn Hooper, the Director with the City of Henderson Resource Resiliency Center, is the caring resource that runs out to help people who have nowhere else to turn. Denise Marshall, with The Trauma Recovery Center, plays a big part in helping to connect those in need as well. Denise says, “When working to find resources for veterans, the homeless, those with mental illness or facing a catastrophic loss, Wendy is the beacon of light for those in their darkest hour. Her compassion and level of patient care is exactly what our community needs right now.”

Wendy Wood

An incredibly caring individual, her empathetic habits flow into her personal life as well. Not only did she raise her family as a single mother, she also opened her home to 7 foster children. Wendy saw foster children who needed a safe, loving home to heal from their trauma. In staying with biblical principles, she spends her time taking care of elderly and foster children. “One person can help change a life, even save a life just with one phone call,” avows Wendy, a firm believer in her faith and her purpose. Her humble nature doesn’t seem to allow her to shine a light on herself, but us at MYVEGAS are proud to highlight the power of one impeccably caring individual. Our city is better place because of her mission and unceasing spirit. To learn more about Wendy Wood, MBA, CEO, contact her at (702) 326-2174. Visit www.connections.vegas. MV

THE SHEEPDOG SPIRIT

Custom tattoos are what Sheepdog Tattoo, located just west of the Las Vegas Strip, is known for. Being a custom shop is the cornerstone of Sheepdog. The artists at Sheepdog tattoo will work with a client to design a piece they love.

C

ombine that with the spirit they embody to do what is right no matter how hard it is, is what makes Sheepdog Tattoo different from other shops. That being said, Sheepdog Tattoo offers flash art for customers who walk in and don’t exactly know what they want. The main thing at Sheepdog Tattoo is everyone is welcome. Sheepdog Tattoo found that veterans, military, law enforcement and first responders were not comfortable at regular tattoo parlors, and that was how Sheepdog Tattoo was born. This sentiment stems from the owner, Sindy Shell, as she urges everyone to understand the mission of Sheepdog Tattoo. The term Sheepdog was first coined by Lt. Colonel Dave Grossman and made famous by the movie, American Sniper. Grossman put people into three categories: sheep, wolves, or sheepdogs. The sheep are the innocent, gentle-spirited animal who will not go out of its way to hurt another. The wolf is a violent creature that kills and feeds on the sheep. Straddling both worlds are the sheepdogs. They live in both worlds. They are gentle, not to go out of their way to harm others, but they become violent when provoked by wolves or when the sheep are threatened. These sheepdogs include veterans, active military, firefighters, police, and first responders, among other disciplined forces. Formerly a school administrator, Sindy Shell has had a professional life teaching and mentoring kids with the same value that embodies Sheepdog Tattoo, authenticity. Sindy purchased Sheepdog Tattoo with the intent to honor her late father, a Vietnam War Era Veteran. Towards this, she says: “My dad, who passed away in April, was a Vietnam Era Veteran, so when I heard the former owners of Sheepdog Tattoo were selling, I felt the mission of Sheepdog and my dad’s legacy aligned.” She continued, “My decision was based on the concept of having a place where sheepdogs can go, feel safe, and get tattoos.” Located at 1937 Western Ave, Sheepdog Tattoo is in itself a piece of art. The

56

military theme is represented by meaningful flags reminiscent of the WWI and modern-day heroes. The interiors are also littered with war antiques that have carefully been picked by Sindy. The lighting has specifically been used to create a gothic feel towards it, and you almost feel Dracula roar when you enter- at least, that is the goal! At Sheepdog Tattoo, there are experienced tattoo artists who are passionate about their art and also those who are just starting their careers. Nothing gives Sindy more joy than seeing the skilled hands guide the beginners. To manage the growing number of visitors to the shop, Sindy is looking forward to hiring four more artists to add to the team. She welcomes applicants with extensive experience as well as beginners with unstoppable passion and grit. At the core of this Las Vegas tattoo studio lies the same spirit that drives the animal instinct to fight for what is right; the spir-

Sheepdog Tattoo is guided by this spirit and their artists strive to bring out this in your tattoo idea. Sindy projects a bright future for her Top Tattoo Parlor in Las Vegas. Her conviction comes from her firm belief in the economy and, more importantly, the spirit of not only the sheepdog, but the spirit of Las Vegas. HITTING THE PAVEMENT

MYVEGAS has the unique opportunity to highlight and exemplify the women in our city that lead their industry and make an impact in our community. Shonda Decker, the owner of Affordable Striping and Sealing LLC is one of those impeccable women.

Q

You recently completed the parking lot striping, road markings and traffic signs at the Allegiant Stadium, how does it feel to be involved in the first football stadium in Las Vegas?

A

I was thrilled when we got the contract for the stadium! While this isn’t the largest contract we’ve completed financially, it is the most prestigious. Every time I drive by the stadium, I think – WOW! The stadium is incredible and we worked on that project! How do you enjoy getting involved in the community?

Q A

S

honda has called Las Vegas home since 1990 and holds over 20 years of experience in the construction industry. In 2006, she opened Affordable Striping and Sealing, and since, has constantly been improving to better serve her customers and her community. We had to chance to get to know Shonda Decker a little closer, read her interview below:

Q

This issue, we are highlighting the women in our community that stand out and work daily to make our city a better place. How have you stood out in a male dominated industry?

A

I’ve always felt that being a woman in a male dominated industry has been an advantage, not a disadvantage. When I first started in this industry over 20 years ago, I was often referred to as the “striping chick” or the “sign girl”. Once I worked on a project with somebody, that changed. I stood out not for being a woman, but for being knowledgeable, detailed and reliable. I have 3 amazing daughters. I teach them that you can do anything, that there are no boundaries. I hope that my success paves the way for them and other women to follow their dreams and shatter any glass ceilings they might encounter along the way.

58

Community involvement and community service is extremely important to me, personally. I am a firm believer that even a small act of kindness can inspire a chain of kind acts that can reach dozens or even hundreds of others. We commit to serving our community by doing good deeds and random acts of kindness. We also partner with several of our customers in supporting their favorite charities year-round. What services do you provide?

Q A

We have 2 different types of customers - construction and property owners or managers. Our services include parking lot layout, asphalt striping, road markings, manufacturing and installation of traffic signs, installation of wheel stops, asphalt maintenance including

crack sealing and sealcoating. We do everything from restriping a convenience store with 5 parking stalls to complete site development of a new Amazon warehouse facility with 1200 parking stalls, 150 truck stalls, 4 new roadways, 651 traffic signs and 730 wheel stops. To what do you attribute your growth since opening in 2006?

Q A

My drive has never been about growth. I constantly challenge myself by asking, “How do I do this better?” How can I serve my customers better, how can I be a better employer, how can I have better relationships with my vendors and how can I give back more to my community. People and relationships matter to me. I believe if you work hard, treat people right, be fair and honest, then growth and success will follow. And we believe that to be true as well. Quality and care in every relationship are the keystones to Shonda, and to Affordable Striping & Sealing. Soulful Rosie found herself on a dangerous and tenacious operation along with the efforts of the Former Secretary of the Army, Martin Hoffman, to revamp the system by introducing hyperbaric oxygen therapy as well as cutting-edge drugfree scientific discoveries to the veterans. The next phase of her audacious journey combined with over 25 years as a public personality on radio, television and public events, she used these powerful seasoned years with the experts as a new platform. We have proven that these scientific breakthroughs are continuing to move the markers of science. Welcome to the elite family of collaborative products and services. Dr. Janet Franco then met Dr. Denise Tropea, she was impressed with her experience as a physician specializing in Podiatry and diabetic foot care. She has a passion for empowering individuals to maintain and regain their health. Dr.

Franco invited her to become the resident doctor of the Triple Crown of Health and Wellness.

Introducing to the Triple Crown of Health and Wellness! ‘Exploring the greatest advances in Health Sciences.’ The Triple Crown of health and wellness comprises the utilization of proven alternative modalities to assist people to maintain their optimal health. The approach is divided into three jewels of the crown, the first is the Sapphire jewel, enhancing the microcirculation and increasing the oxygen concentration in the body, with the use of hyperbaric oxygen and or a patented oxygen training system (LiveO2.com). The second is the Emerald jewel, DNA repair which involves the necessary proteins (nucleotides) and amino acids to replicate healthy cells.

“Good health starts and ends at the DNA level.” ~ Dennis Gray-Leader Forever Healthy Products.

The third is the Amethyst jewel, Quantum energy healing and utilizing the principles of Quantum physics to enable our cells to communicate with one another. The intricate relationship of these non-invasive, drug-free methods will assist the body to heal itself. The body can then begin to move towards homeostasis (balance).

LAS VEGAS PROPERTY BROTHERS

Who you work with does matter. Where some may fall short, the Toumaian Group is here to cover all bases. The Las Vegas property brothers, the Toumaian’s are taking care of Las Vegas’ commercial and residential needs with the goal in mind of being your real estate resource, for life.

W

ith over 25 years of combined experience in the real estate industry, this duo has been taking Las Vegas real estate by storm since joining together to create their team. “Whether being able to help a family transitioning in to their 10th home or a first-time buyer finally paying a mortgage instead of rent, it is the look of accomplishment and satisfaction that we get to see on their faces,” says George Toumaian, knowing that they play a part in achieving that for their clients. George earned the nickname, “Mr. Get It Done”

for his work with high net-worth executives with business contracts and even exotic automobile deals for over 25 years. BUSINESS, COMMUNITY, SERVICE Sophia is the founder of Strong A.R.M. These national designations are significant because less than 1% of realtors possess them.

S

ophia is also well known in Las Vegas because of how active she is in the community, not just as a thriving businesswoman, but also as the founder of a local 501c3 that proudly serves Clark County women and children. Sophia is the founder of the Strong A.R.M. Foundation, a non-profit organization that sponsors and provides funding for low-income children to participate in programs affiliated with Arts, Recreation, and Multicultural activities. Sports, recreational activities, hobbies, and multicultural involvement can be very expensive for struggling parents to provide for their children. Unfortunately, for this reason, many children are forced to go without these valuable enrichment activities. Sophia Smith created Strong A.R.M. Foundation because she believes all children deserve an equal chance to develop their full potential in these activities in spite of their families’ socioeconomic struggles.

Sophia believes her involvement in sports during her youth gave her some of her most meaningful life skills, and greatly enhanced her physical and mental health. She hopes to provide as many low-income families as possible with the opportunity for their children to experience the same benefits from sports and extracurricular activities that she experienced. Thus far, Strong A.R.M. Foundation has helped hundreds of Las Vegas families pay for such things as: registration fees, uniform fees, league fees, instrument rental, costume purchases, and monthly dues. As the need for helping families increases during these difficult times, Strong A.R.M.’s mission is needed more than ever, and this is Sophia’s driving force as a businesswoman. As a realtor, Sophia credits her success to her vast community involvement over the last 36 years that she has lived in Las Vegas, not only working with her foundation, but also volunteering with the

She believes her in-depth work with the community, and her specialized designations give her unique insights and wisdom about Las Vegas. These unique specializations help her to better serve and understand the needs of her buyers and sellers. She is known for working for her real estate clients in the same manner that she works for the goals of her non-profit, with great passion for winning results. The common denominator for all that Sophia Smith gets involved in is her passion for service to others. In her own words: “My goal as a realtor is to have clients that come to me for the first purchase or sale, and then stay with me for life. I feel it is a very sacred thing when my clients place their trust in me for these large life-altering decisions, so I’m very passionate about advocating for them in a way that makes them feel relieved that they placed their trust in the right place.” MV Sophia Smith Signature Real Estate REALTOR ® 702-403-7994 License Number: S.0183595

2020 HOME BUYERS

5 MOST SOUGHT AFTER FEATURES The Pandemic has not only increased the demand for the security of homeownership, but also changed the amount of time people are actually spending in their homes.

T

he hugely popular “great room” that has been the trend over the last several years is a lot less attractive these days. With distance learning, and virtual meetings, homebuyers are seeking homes that have more personal space for each household member, and while location has always been a huge factor, commute to work has become far less important. 1. HOME OFFICE This is no longer a necessity only for business owners and accountants, it is now a need for the majority of homebuyers. With many people working remotely, it has become essential to have a private space free of distractions in order to work from home, and has become one of the highest priorities on a buyer’s needs list in 2020.

2. IN HOME GYM We have all become a bit more health conscious during the pandemic, and many people are exercising and working out more. When we were affected by shutdowns and gym closures, many gym-goers created a space in their home where they can work out, and those that didn’t have

4. CHEFS KITCHEN Amazing kitchens are no stranger to homebuyers needs list, though these days they are likely a bit more utilized. The open concept for a kitchen is still very popular and likely a trend that will not be going away anytime soon. 5. LARGE OUTDOOR SPACE Staycations are not so fun when you’re cooped up in the house the entire time. Large backyards have always been desirable, but more buyers these days are not willing to compromise on this. While privacy is a factor, many home shoppers are also seeking outdoor space sufficient enough for organic gardens, pools, outdoor kitchens and barbecue areas, and play areas. MV By Trish Williams

sufficient space are now seeking it. 3. SEPARATE FAMILY AND LIVING ROOM The “great room” trend did away with the separate family and living rooms, and now they are back in demand, allowing separate space for entertainment and lounging. Indoor activity spaces such as pool tables, game rooms, and in-home movie theaters are also increasing in popularity.

REAL ESTATE RUNDOWN After months of pandemic-fueled chaos around the world, we can’t help but wonder what the real estate market will look like this fall. At the beginning of the stay at home orders in March and April, real estate markets dropped to unseen lows.

Y

ou probably remember everyone holding their breath, waiting for this to pass. People thought that after only a couple of weeks everything will go back to normal. Well, six months later, we are still adjusting to life during a pandemic and its consequences. The global COVID-19 pandemic affected real estate markets worldwide. Europe showed resilience throughout the pandemic, even growing stronger in certain markets. Berlin, Amsterdam, and Paris are among some of the markets that showed a price growth of 3.1%, 3.0%, and 1.2%. Another impact is the role of International buyers and investors in the US real estate market, becoming more and more important now. California started a robust bounce back from June and sales were up 42% and that

puts us up -12.9% to where we were last year at this time. Compared to May when CA sales dropped more than 40% compared to last year. In May, California sales dropped more than 40% compared to last year. However, since June, we’ve seen a strong recovery in California with sales going up 42%. This robust recovery has pushed us to a difference of -12.9% relative to where we were at this time last year. Las Vegas’ real estate market was recovering in July 2020 with Pending Sales going up by 15% and Closed Sales up 4.4%, a difference of -8.9% compared to last year. A lack of inventory is a common theme for California & Nevada, which both have less than 3 months of supply available, followed by a median price increase in CA to $626,170, a 2.5% increase. Price in-

creases were noted nationwide according to a Corelogic report in which the median house price in the US went up by 4.9% (now $300,000.) We see price increase trends as well in Las Vegas, NV, where median prices increased by +8.9% (now $330,000.) The demand is high and buyers are looking for houses with more space in case of more lockdowns in the future. Competition between buyers is getting stiff as record low interest rates (under 3% for mortgages) are being reported for the first time in US history. By comparison, in 2018, interest rates were around 5%. Buyers can now enjoy an incredible savings on purchases by taking advantage of these historic low interest rates. This trend can be seen in the fact that mortgage applications are up 20% from last year. If you are one of these buyers, make sure to get your financing in order to put down a quick offer on that house you like. We are definitely still looking at high demand out there, with buyers trying to close before the end of the year due to a number of factors. One of the biggest trends we see now is people moving out of their apartments and moving into homes. With schools still closed and business working remotely, many are looking for more indoor and outdoor space. Lack of inventory may impede market recovery since there are not enough homes to sell. So, to all the sellers out there, now is a good time to sell and price your house smart, don’t over do it. As we have seen in the past, overpriced houses are still lingering on the market. Keep an eye on important markers for a healthy economy such as interest rates and the stock market. People are more likely to invest in the traditional real estate market when the stock market is shaky. States with tax advantages like Nevada and Florida are expected to have higher demand as well. Six months into a pandemic and the market is starting to look really encouraging. MV By Yelena Brezhneva

L

eave it to us and we provide everything from the entry way to the backyard. Many of our projects are properties that were on the market for an extended period of time and could not sell, and some are brand new businesses seeking a polished and sleek look. Whatever the project is, we can help you every step of the way. Sasha Good, the fabulous owner and head designer of Design by Sasha, has many years of experience designing small to premium luxury projects. Gaining much of her expertise in Europe, she brings a blend of European sophistication, with an edge of modern to her interiors. Consisting of only high-end furniture and accessories, Sasha has had years of experience and understands the necessity of keeping your home looking superb. A staging project with us consists of an initial consultation with the designer. The creative process begins with an initial free consultation, where she meets with you to discuss your remodeling/staging goals. She then bounces some ideas off

78

and creates a final design concept with materials and furnishings. If you’re not 100% in love with it, she will work with you until you are! Also, on average, Sasha can complete staging a home in just one day. Real estate professionals and design specialists alike know the importance of home staging when selling a home. Design by Sasha offers not only interior design/staging for real estate, but also full remodel and construction projects for your current home with the help of her in-house team of contractors and architects, who she has worked beside for years. Sasha and her team have completed commercial and residential properties, including medical facilities, mansions, businesses, family homes, vacation

homes, and much more. Her before and after photos speak for themselves, as do her testimonials. A driving factor with her projects is reaching her own satisfaction and liking, as much as the clients. Sasha will work on a home until she is 100% satisfied with the end-result, even if it takes more time. Taking into account the range and quality of the services she provides, Design By Sasha is the cutting-edge choice for any of your interior design, remodeling, and staging needs. Both are important! She says, “I like to take my client through their home to help them see it with fresh eyes. This allows them to start thinking like a designer and encourages them to be bold with their project.” Creating a home is more than just furniture and accessories. At the end of it all, the ball you’re keeping your eye on is the final product. And the final product is a beautiful, life-filled home that reflects

HOW TO SUCCEED IN A VIRTUAL INTERVIEW Recent events like the pandemic and the sudden shift to bring many job positions to an online environment, virtual interviews have become more too common as opposed to traditional face-to-face interviews. Yet virtual interviews present unique challenges such as technology and how to “sell” and impress yourself to a prospective employer. Below are a few tips on how you can succeed and master your upcoming virtual interview. TEST YOUR TECHNOLOGY Whether you are having the video interview done by phone, desktop, or tablet, you want to ensure the device you are using has an excellent camera and good sound quality. Having a grainy visual or distorted audio is not a good first impression you want to make. Double check your internet connection; you do not want any interruptions in service

while mid-conversation with an interviewer. Also, check to see if your apps are up to date! DRESS FOR SUCCESS Proper business attire from head to toe is highly recommended. Even though your interviewer will mostly see you from the chest up, you want to avoid appearing unprofessional by say, wearing a blazer and no trousers. CHECK YOUR SURROUNDINGS Always make sure your space is clean before signing on that video call. If your background is messy, it is harder to convince the interviewer how detail oriented and organized you are as an employee. Your space includes your background! If there is a shelf, for example, make sure it is neat. Using a virtual background is always an option. EYE CONTACT IS KEY When speaking to the interviewer, make sure to look directly at your camera. A common mistake for many virtual job applicants is that they look at the computer screen causing your eyes to be lowered which gives off the perception that you are not paying attention. MOMENT OF PAUSE Allow yourself and the interviewer time to pause between questions and responses. You do not always need to fill the space and frequent interruption on a virtual platform will only cause more disruption. Overall, you want to establish a strong connection with your interviewer and that may be tough when interviews are done virtually. By following these virtual interview tips in place, you will be one step closer to landing your next dream job. By: Anthony Lai

¡TE SORPRENDERÁN LAS COSAS QUE LOGRAREMOS JUNTOS!

XAVIER MENDEZ

MV

HOMEMADE MADE BETTER

When you’re in the mood for a home cooked meal, think no further than Mama Bird Southern Kitchen, bringing that homemade spirit right to your dinner table (in half the time!). Personally, when I think of comfort food, my mind immediately runs to barbecue and/or anything southern, and if you’re like me, you want it full of flavor.

M

ama Bird, located just west of the I-15 and Cactus, brings not only great southern cuisine to Las Vegas, but also the feeling of a home cooked meal. Their quaint and homey space in Southern Highlands brings together southern and modern, with the flare of an incredible smokey smell coming from their smoker. If you’re not hungry walking in, you sure are about to be! Zach Substanley, the Pitmaster and General Manager of Mama Bird, if a fifth generation pitmaster and has taken his expertise to create their decadent menu from top to bottom, with the help of his phenomenal crew of course. Boasting a menu chalked full of your favorites, and flavors you have yet to try, this menu was created with detail and calculation. Every flavor dialed down to the last dash. On our trial run of the expansive menu, we got to try the favorites. Starting off

with the Wicked Deviled Eggs, which are topped off with candied jalapenos (yes jalapenos!) and crispy bacon strips, making for the perfect crunch and kick to your classic deviled egg! A not-so lover of deviled eggs myself, these certainly made me go in for another! Zach also recommended that we try their freshly made, hand crafted Ginger Beer, coined Liam’s Ginger Beer as a surprise to Zach’s friend and business partner, Liam. He mentioned that the Jalapeno Ginger Beer was his favorite, but to not be scared off by the heat, it is very manageable and cleanses the palette for the next round of flavors. For the main entrée, I decided on the raved Fried Chicken Sandwich, with the option to make it M.M.A.D. hot, and it was a great choice. Made with a deliciously flavor-filled and hand-breaded fried chicken breast on a potato roll, well dressed with their Comeback Sauce, their homemade fry sauce with a kick. I didn’t finish every bite in the restaurant, but ev-

ery last bite was finished, you can believe that! The heat is manageable and enjoyable, and the flavors complement each other well. My accomplice for the evening decided on the Pecan Smoked Pork Baby Back Ribs and Smoked Beef Brisket (what a literal mouthful!). Beautifully smoked to perfection, I couldn’t help but steal a couple of bites off their plate. The baby back ribs slid off the bone and the brisket was cut thick and savorly tender made from Prime grade beef and exhibiting a thick smoke ring. With our dishes, we got the chance to try their Mac n’ Cheese and their North n South fries, meaning half crinkle cut and half sweet potato fries. The Mac n’ Cheese had the perfect crunch, mixed in with saltine crackers and their mix of spices. All of this indulgence topped off with their Cake in a Jar, ready to take home and enjoy from the comfortability of your couch. Zach gifted us the Hummingbird cake jar, featuring flavors of pecan, pineapple, coconut and banana with cream cheese frosting, and what a complete treat it was! The constant of this restaurant seems to be their beautiful mixtures of flavors, completely calculated to your taste bud’s enjoyment. You may need a to-go bag with their out of this world portions, because this food goes a long way. Maybe even take a ginger beer and a menu to go, too! Because don’t worry, I’ll speak for you, you’ll be back! Try Mama Bird today and don’t forget to mention you saw it in MYVEGAS! Mama Bird also offers Thanksgiving Holiday meal sets for purchase during the season, starting at $19.50 a person, check out their website for more information! Breaking All the Rules

Wellness goes beyond physical health, there is the mental, and your life.

how you live

—J E N N A Z W A G I L

In 2014,

a robot landed on a comet for the first time, we watched the Winter Olympics in Sochi, “Happy” by Pharrell Williams was the number 1 song, and hardly anyone had heard of CBD. The US was still four years away from the 2018 Farm Bill, which is credited with the rise in popularity of Hemp-based products. It may seem like an odd time for the gears of what was to become the #1 CBD Oil Brand, HempWorx, to begin turning, but then again, Jenna Zwagil has always been more about setting trends than following them. Her book, Breaking All the Rules, is coming out soon and details the adventure that brought her from working at a Wendy’s inside a gas station to the helm of a company with almost 200M in sales. She’s a busy mother of four who still manages to juggle and balance all business and family needs. And she is a strong proponent of the hemp lifestyle, holistic wellness and the environment.

Within weeks she had put up a website and was telling friends and family.

Secret Ingredient: A Human Connection.

Which brings us to MyDailyChoice and Jenna’s husband, Network Marketing entrepreneur Josh Zwagil.

Jenna understands the importance of touching all the bases when it comes to marketing in the wellness sector—quality starts at the farm and clean, safe and renewable production processes, natural ingredients, no chemicals—HempWorx more than checks the boxes in these vital areas, almost always exceeding industry standards. Where they go beyond is the personal human connection, always staying focused on how the products can have a positive impact on lives. This comes in large part from Jenna’s personal experience with CBD. For personal reasons, Jenna had embarked on a wellness journey. She diligently researched health and wellness when, with the help of her husband Josh, she discovered CBD. To her astonishment it worked like nothing else had before.

Being Healthy Is About More Than Physical Health Josh and Jenna met just before launching MyDailyChoice, a network marketing company in the health and wellness industry. They will say it was love at first sight that drew them together, but their dedication to serving others is what cemented their relationship. They had a vision and mission to change the world and that’s exactly what they set out to do.

Jenna was previously in the army and had a long history as a network marketer. Before Josh founded MyDailyChoice, he was the number one income earner for another company. Together they had the vision to start a network marketing company that sought to put the health and financial success of others at the forefront. It’s a business model that does for individuals’ success what the product line does for their health. It’s holistic, like HempWorx. 500,000 preferred customers, 100,000 affiliates and revenue approaching 200M are only one measure of success, the other is human impact, and that is something Jenna Zwagil—Veteran, Entrepreneur, Author & Mother—knows very well.

There are no guarantees regarding the income from the MyDailyChoice/HempWorx opportunity. The success or failure of each Affiliate, like in any other business, depends upon each Affiliate’s skillset and personal effort. Earning levels for Independent Affiliates are examples and should not be construed as typical or average. Income level achievements are dependent upon the individual Affiliate’s business skills, personal ambition, time, commitment, activity and demographic factors. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. MyDailyChoice/HempWorx products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

THE WOMEN OF EVERGREEN From coconut macaroons to snickerdoodle cookies and rice cereal treats, Evergreen Organix can do it all! A local cannabis brand open since 2015, Evergreen and their team are taking the world of edibles to brand new heights.

B

ecoming Nevada’s top edibles brand in 5 short years of opening their doors, Evergreen Organix has quickly become a major cannabis label, manufacturing over seventy, high-quality marijuana and CBD products. The company’s brand remains competitive, up-to-date, and relevant in the cannabis community. Their diversified thinking has ultimately put the company’s products in the hands of a highly diverse set of customers, not to mention, available to 30+ dispensaries in the valley.

The presence of women in the administrative and operational areas of Evergreen Organix have been an integral part of building their company into what it is today. “Evergreen is fortunate to have a skilled and dedicated group of women who make our business possible,” avows Vice President of Operations, Jillian Nelson. She continued that women in places where decisions are being made brings a more global and well-rounded perspective to their company, product line, and growth in general.

Evergreen Organix uses their team of bakers, chocolatiers, scientists, and cannabis experts to manufacture their decadent varieties of edibles, vapes, and topical treatments. This meticulous team credits much of their success and growth to their creativity in product development as well as always listening to feedback from the people that ultimately are buying and using their products. Feedback, internal and external, has been crucial to their product development and in creating new concepts to launch. The company uses state-of-the-art equipment, works with DBlabs product testing company, and fine Nevada dispensaries such as Essence and Deep Roots Harvest, all put together to produce, test, package, and distribute only the best cannabis-infused, consumer-friendly cookies. They are all made from scratch, scooped by hand, and have stood the test of time. Jillian personally recommends their classic Chocolate Chip Cookies to every new cannabis user! Whether because their cookies are delicious or the women and men at Evergreen are receptive and always a step ahead, the company’s accomplishments are outstanding. Managed seamlessly by their creative process and research, but mostly, through teamwork. From stepping into the industry at the very start of the Nevada medical cannabis program, to becoming Nevada’s top edible brand, it is safe to say their team is all looking forward to the future of Evergreen. ARTIST SPOTLIGHT (FEAT. BEN HARRIS) Ben Harris is a Las Vegas Performer, DJ, Songwriter and Artist. Whether rocking a solo show, or opening for Las Vegas’ number 1 headliner, Ben Harris is one to keep your eye out for! Get to know Ben below!

Where do you get the inspiration for your music, and do you have any plans to release more in the future? I am blessed to act as a vessel and it really is always flowing through no matter what genre or vibe, but I came up listening to a lot of Timbaland, Ginuwine, Aaliyah, and Usher type vibes while living with my mom in Indiana. Then I would visit my Dad in Phoenix and we would be bumping a lot of 2 Pac, Biggie and of course the P-Funk era he came up on which mixed in perfect with Dr. Dre sampling a lot of his favorite songs. When I started coming up in the battle rap freestyle scene I definitely had a lot of influence from some of my favorite artists with speedy delivery and wordplay like Twista, Eminem and Jay-Z. I just released a project for Halloween titled “Ben X” which is a play on the

show “Ben 10.” One of the younger artists I work with, Leek Hussle, was calling me that and I didn’t even know what it was, so I checked it out and now it is my son Gavin’s favorite show. So, I thought it made sense, since my name is Ben to put out 10 songs for the Halloween season. It includes the song I did with my wife on some quarantine love vibes titled “Stuck” and the previous singles “Oozin” and “Cookin’ w Gas.” I am always writing and creating new music so I will definitely be releasing new music consistently throughout 2021. Vegas is known for its up-and-coming artists: entertainers, fashion designers, etc. What advice can you share to someone just starting out? “Just Do,” kind of like Nike but with no ‘it.’ While coming up during college, it was in-between classes where I was doing all the work without realizing it. I was networking, setting up shows, hosting a radio & tv show, freestyling and performing at all the parties just because that’s what I loved and wanted to be doing. If I was too busy focusing on whatever the “it” was, I may have narrowed my opportunities of becoming a full well-rounded artist and entertainer. This year has met us with closures of all our favorite places on the strip, how have you personally felt not being in that environment every day? There is definitely a part of me that is missing, since for the past 10 years I have had the pleasure and honor of opening up

for Terry Fator at The Mirage. The nightly adrenaline rush and crowd engagement is always fun because I love uplifting souls. I can’t complain about something that is out of my control and my soul has definitely been uplifted by being home to tuck my son in and have nice dinners with the family. We have a whole nightly routine complete with a family song and dance, I love it! What’s your favorite local hot spot? It was definitely Light Nightclub and Daylight Beach Club. When my wife, Natalia Harris, was the Marketing Director for those properties, I was up in the DJ booth or on the stage all the time turning up. I did play Ginuwine’s setlist one time from my phone, you know I had the songs ready from the 1st question lol. That’s just one of so many great memories. A person who inspires me the most is… My parents have always inspired me the most since they are both successful professionals’ as civil engineers and worked so hard and were both minorities in their field breaking barriers and stereotypes. My wife Natalia also inspires me a lot! She is always working so hard. After being a successful Marketing Director for some of the biggest nightclubs and pools on the Vegas strip, she built her salon out here in Southern Highlands, Glam Parlor, from the ground up and is keeping her customers feeling and looking glam. One thing I can’t live without is… Making people happy!! My favorite thing to do from the studio and stage is uplift souls and bring joy to people. I remember the feeling of buying my wife and I our first home and how special that was. That is why I am excited to get my real estate license and bring that joy and excitement to people while I am not on stage. I recently finished my classes and am excited to take my test. Hopefully I can help somebody, or some couple lock down their first home! MYENTERTAINMENT

Ah, Las Vegas, the capital for entertainment in the United States. What started in the 50’s as lounge acts like the Rat Pack and performers such as Elvis Presley and Wayne Newton, we have now evolved into a mecca for artists and entertainers to nest and grow with our community. From places to perform lining the Strip up and down, and arenas- the T-Mobile Arena and the new Raiders Stadium growing daily, we are sustaining ourselves as the one stop shop for all things entertainment. Keep up with us at MYVEGAS as we unleash a quarterly Event Calendar so you can stay up to date with all of Las Vegas’ new events, concerts, and games!

VEGAS IS BACK Frank Sinatra once said, “Fear is the enemy of Logic.” I am not sure if there is a more iconic character or more appropriate statement that best reflects and describes the very essence of what this magical city is all about.

T

here are a lot of ways you could describe the City of Las Vegas; fear is not one of them. As a lifelong fan of the Entertainment Capital of the World, I can say that it was in fact that maverick fearless spirit that was always so enticing and intoxicating to me. There was nothing like that feeling I so vividly remember watching and experiencing my Vegas idols command the hazy Showroom stage armed with nothing more than a gold top microphone, a cocktail and a 30 piece orchestra ready to knock you back into your seat with the intense blast of a slightly scorn horn section. The sharply dressed audience would be mesmerized as these gaudy jewelry wearing tigers prowled about their domain with that charismatic inviting charm fueled by a slightly glazed-over confidence of 10,000 shows to their credit. My life was forever influenced after several trips here with my parents in the mid to late 70s. I remember kids on my block telling me of their family trips to Disneyland to see Mickey Mouse. I, however, got to boast with pride to my childhood gang of friends about getting the chance to catch Don Rickles at the Sahara and then going over to Wayne Newton’s late show at the Stardust. On a good night, we would end the evening with a nightcap at The Top of the Dunes overlooking the strip to see Bob Anderson and other great lounge performers. There was always a certain way these tuxedo clad crooners could exude Vegas sophistication with cocktail-party class all while cleverly injecting a dash of off the cuff suggestive innuendo and insinuations to the laughing pleasure of freshly tanned wise guys and their beautiful dates. Little did I know, back in 78’, the lasting impact it would make on me to have Tony Orlando walk off the stage during a show at The Hilton, and in the middle of a song only to come to my booth, reach down and shake my hand while saying, “Welcome to Las Vegas young man.” The feeling he gave me that night with the spotlight in our face completely shaped what I wanted to give to others the rest of my life. One of the cool-

118

est things that has happened to me here in Vegas was sitting in the dressing room with Tony Orlando getting to tell him the about the significant impact he had on me that night so long ago, only to have him tell me the same exact type of experience happened to him back in the early 60s… but with a guy named Bobby Darrin. As for me, when I think of Las Vegas…. I think of entertainment!! And may I happily report to my friends and people around the world, “Vegas Is Back,” and we could not be more excited to see you ALL!!! I am so proud to say that we are energized as a city of incredible talent and performers ready to explode with a renewed sense of energy and optimism. We are just a part of an enormous industry of people not just including entertainers, but the amazingly talented people that make entertainment happen. Undoubt-

edly, we have all had a challenging year, but I know we are ready to get up and get ready to lead the charge into 2021 from right here in Las Vegas, the most exciting city in the world. We continue to be so grateful and appreciative to the people who live and work right here in Vegas for voting us 7-time Gold winner of “Best of Las Vegas” in the LV Review Journal annual Readers Poll. I could not be more proud to continue doing what we can to bring some Vegas style party fun to this city and to the people we love so much. I honestly believe in the powerful healing and positive energy benefits that come from experiencing live spirited performances in all forms. For me, I still get as excited to rock the crowd into a frenzy of happy, slightly intoxicated euphoria, as I did when I jumped on this circus train decades ago. There is nothing

quite like the joyful addiction of making people feel good while bringing individuals from around the world together as one big crazy family party. Every performer that gets to experience this for a living is incredibly lucky and blessed. So in the true renegade spirit of this “wild child” of a city and with great excitement, I’m thrilled to share with you that we are throwing the Party of the Year and we would love for you to join us. “It’s New Year’s Eve with Zowie Bowie Live on CBS at the new Circa Resort/Casino in Downtown Las Vegas!” This will be a celebration of everything Vegas and why we are and will forever be the Entertainment Capital of the World!! We are beyond honored to not only be part of the ribbon cutting of this iconic new property, but to symbolically cut the ribbon to open Las Vegas to everyone. “We are Vegas & We are Back!!” The best part about this NYE presentation on CBS is that it is intended to help our communities by raising money in a telethon format. Every dollar that is raised that night will go to the city that is doing the donating. We are happy to be sharing our stage with guest singers, dancers and a few special celebrity appearances. We will also be introducing our new “Zowie Bowie Showgirls.” I am particularly proud to point out that not only is my wife, Jennifer, one of the showgirls, but the designer and creator of the costumes they will be wearing. It was a hidden and appreciated talent we did not know she had. Featured in the photo is our darling 3-year-old daughter, Ava Rose. She was so excited watching her mommy make these elaborate and beautiful costumes, she wanted one for herself! This new year will be exciting for Zowie Bowie. We will now be offering not just our well known party concert, but also our new classic Vegas Showroom Show that we will be unveiling parts of on New Years Eve. We hope you all can tune in and help us celebrate Vegas leading the charge into 2021 and to help open the most talked about Resort/Casino in town. THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE

There is no one leading the charge here in Las Vegas more than the brand new exciting Circa Resort/Casino making Downtown Las Vegas truly the place to be….. Get ready to experience “The Time of Your Life.”

T

he grand and spectacular 1.25 million sq ft Circa Hotel/Casino opened for a sneak peek in late October, showing our locals and visitors the history and the future of Las Vegas, all in one extravagant and meticulously designed hotel. Officially opening in December of 2020, the plethora of amenities nestled into this hotel are going to keep the locals coming to Downtown Las Vegas, and attract people from all over the world to, you guessed it, have the time of their life. The mascot of the hotel is none other than the legendary kicking Vegas Vickie to round out what Circa’s mission truly is, to transcend the future and appreciate the past of our magical city. After a nip and tuck, Vegas Vickie is back to represent the hotel in the center of the casino area, making it the perfect selfie spot for visitors. Right outside of the casino doors lies the much anticipated Stadium Swim, featur-

ing a 14-million pixel screen to view the latest sports games and events, not to mention enjoy a swim in one of their 6 temperature controlled pools. This amphitheater makes you feel as if you were in a movie theater, but the most comfortable and relaxed setting you might ever experience. Heading down the casino floor, you will pass the World’s Largest Sportsbook, and you may want to stay for dinner to witness all it has to offer. This three story, stadium-esque sportsbook is coupled with a 78-million pixel screen, broadcasting games and events from all over the world to put your dollars on, or just stay for a game, or two.

As you pass the multitude of restaurant options, you may want to stop by Barry’s Downtown Prime, their steakhouse featuring the cooking styles of Chef Barry Dakake, or their new barbecue destination, Project BBQ. On your way out, feel the glamour of the most convenient valet on the strip, the Garage Mahal. The first casino ever to make ride-share the number one priority, leave or visit Circa with ease and convenience. The meaning of Circa is truly paying tribute to what Las Vegas used to be, and what it will become in years to come. The amenities, the restaurants, and, really, the things to see in this hotel prove that

Vegas is back, and here to stay. The most magical, nonstop, and transcending city in the world, we’re so happy to be back, and what better way to celebrate what our city is made of. Get ready for the TIME OF YOUR LIFE, at Circa Resort & Casino! MV Photos Provided by Steelman Partners, Circa Resort & Casino, and PUNCH Architecture. THE DATING MESSAGE This message is really all about the science of dating. It is a combination of positive self image psychology and positive self motivation. When you believe in yourself positively and correctly, this motivates you to be be what you want to be, do what you want to do, and ultimately have what or who you want to have.

T

his message becomes appealing because most of what we have had crammed down our throats in the past hasn’t worked in the field of dating. Times have changed, philosophies have changed, so consequently what use to work to some degree, may not work now. Obviously there needed to be some modifications to what we see happening in the field of dating today. Look at our nations divorce rate. There are so many

who really don’t believe in the sanctity of monogamy and marriage anymore. This message that I’m sharing with you, positive self image and positive self motivation enriches a person and causes you to expand in your consciousness so that you have a awesome and amazing relationship with you first and foremost. If you can get along with you, then you should be able to get along with some-

one else. If you know how to love you, then you can love someone else. I hope that this becomes such a driving force in motivating you to take no short cuts when it comes to who you resonate with in your spirit. Relationships can either make you or break you. The challenge is figuring out how to align yourself with someone who resonates with your spirit. I really want you to comprehend this message and begin to believe in yourself and become positively motivated in regards to what the universe has in store for you. I don’t believe and won’t approach this knowing that you will fail in what you want and desire by way of your mate. If you really believe in yourself and do the work that is required, this will work. YOU must work it. Believe in yourself. Believe that you can be and do and have what you desire. Let this motivate you. The power and the potential that you need to be successful in your quest is in you. If you don’t believe in you, this message is not going to work for you. Consciousness is really self awareness. You should become so aware of YOU and understand YOU. I do realize that people don’t like to accept self responsibility. This message is not about me doing the work for you. This message is about me giving you the tools to do the work for yourself. If you are not being and doing, and having what you want. It’s something your doing, so don’t blame me. This message is about positive self awareness. Self awareness is understanding that you don’t blame, you take responsibility for whatever is happening in your life. Whatever your self image is, this becomes gold to you. You have to learn to become the master of your own self image. You must learn to modify your self awareness so that you can position yourself to have what and who you would like to manifest in your life. The strength is within you. When you find this strength and believe in it, then it will motivate you to be and do and have what and who you want to desire. Do you believe in yourself? Everyone has within them the potential to be all they’ve been designed to be even if it’s in love. MV By C. Regi Rodgers
