JULY 31

2013

Welcome back to the third term for everyone and a special mention to Drew Pierce, Amelia Young and Sacha McKenzie who have begun their school days in Kauri (R8), and to Peyton Dickson into Rimu (R3) who has returned from Australia.

contribution to our schools leadership team. She is passionate about the direction that our school is heading in and is excited to be part of helping create that atmosphere of possibilities for our children and staff within our teaching and learning programmes.

Staff: Monday was also the first official day for Mel Lemin who has taken over Jan's teaching role in our New Entrant room, Kauri 8, for the rest of this year. It is great to have Mel on board as she has been involved in our school in a variety of teaching and parent roles over the past few years and has a good understanding of our teaching and learning expectations and appreciation of our positive and cooperative staff culture.

Moffett Cup: It's all on - this Friday is D-Day! I am looking forward to seeing a lot of you out at Woodlands supporting our Year 3 to 6's in their respective teams. They have all been practicing hard and I know that all our teams will play hard, play fair and bring home a few trophies! Thank you again to all our parents who have helped out with coaching and to all those who will help out with the different teams on the day - it is much appreciated.

I would also like to formally welcome Evelyn Aurik into her role as Deputy Principal of the Junior School. I, along with Mark, look forward to her continued

Week 1 Term 3

RIMU 3 (Mrs Godby) I hope you all enjoyed the holidays and had fun. We are pleased to welcome Peyton Dickson to the class. She has been missed and we look forward to having her in Room Rimu. A big thank you to all the children who have returned their reading books from the holidays. For Oral language over the next 3 weeks we will be sharing something that the children have made at home and talking about it in class. It can be as simple as a picture or lego. Regards Natalie. RATA 4 (Mrs Aurik) It is lovely to have the children back at school refreshed and ready to learn. This term we are learning about how to share emotions through the 'Arts' and as we do this how to create and refine. We have been talking about emotions and discovering that music can alter how we feel. We are looking forward to our trip to the museum and stumpery where we will explore how visual art can impact on our emotions. Rata warmly welcomes Mrs. Rachel Davis to our room. She will be the teacher on Thursdays while I am on release. Evelyn MIRO 5 (Mrs Kahukura) Welcome back everyone. It is great to see the children so refreshed and motivated. This week Miro & Manuka have been working together in action stations and work groups. There is such a wonderful buzz. I look forward to meeting with you at our 3-way interviews next week. Have a great week :) • I have enjoyed publishing my writing on book creator. William • I enjoy learning new things like taking photos of the shapes found in our environment. Harriet • One of my favourite action station is Strategy games where we play chess. I like strategy thinking. Harry

MANUKA 6 (Mrs Carr) Welcome back to a busy and hard working Term 3! Homework is due tomorrow as we will be at Moffet Cup on Friday. I am looking forward to seeing the great teamwork and fairplay that Myross Bush always displays. Thanks for booking your time to get together in the interviews next week, we are looking forward to them. Have a happy week, Della Carr. TOTARA 7 (Miss Duncan) Welcome back students and families. Kowhai and Totara are having a fabulous week working on action stations and workshops. Letters went home to give parents more information about this. It is great to see the collaborative learning that is going on, well done students! This week the year 6 students were given their High School prospectus for 2014 to take home. If your child did not bring home an option/school you require please let me know as we have spares. Moffett Cup is on Friday and we were able to have a great practice on Tuesday. Hopefully the weather will be as great on Thursday (practice) and Friday. Bring it on Myross Bush!!! Miss Duncan KOWHAI 2 (Mr Herring) We are really enjoying the learning that is happening with Totara this week. We have commented that we like having different teachers, being able to work in different spaces and the range of choices in our action stations. We can't wait to share the things we are working on with all our parents really soon. There are some fantastic events happening this week, too. Some of our class are off to a Chess Tournament tomorrow. We wish them all the best for that. We are really excited about Moffett Cup on Friday, too. It will be great to see a lot of our parents there, cheering us on. Go Myross Bush!

from the classroom

KAURI 8 (Mrs Polaschek& Mrs Lemin) What an awesome start to the term we have had. Our new people are settling in well. Welcome to Sacha McKenzie, Drew Pierce, Amelia Young and their families. And of course welcome to our new teacher Mrs Mel Lemin, who is enjoying getting to know all the children this week and is settling in well too! We are getting to know some new action stations this week. The children would love some 'products' from home they could use in their shop- eg empty boxes. There is lots of thinking and discussion about what to sell, how to make it, and what roles children are taking, as well as writing of shopping lists and 'taking orders'!
