Government initiative - Investing in Educational Success:Â The board viewed and discussed a video and some background documents around what this Government policy could mean for our staff and school. As with all these things it's not just as simple as looking at it as $359 million more going into education. This money is for further salary for four new roles - executive principal, change principal, expert teacher and lead teacher - so effectively its another layer of management and carrot for 'collaboration' across clusters of schools (which will be made up of a mix of primary and secondary schools). If you're reading this and want to know more about it then please check out my blog - under the Principal tab on the front page of the website. Uniform - Sport and optional daily wear: Currently our school has no compulsory daily uniform. From time to time the question of this is raised. It is one of those issues that is very polarising. At the moment our school has a range of clothing that is available to be purchased for both sporting and daily wear. The options include polo shirts, track pants, a polar fleece vest or a polar fleece pullover jacket. The order form for these is available on our website under the 'Parent Info' tab or off the wall in the office. The question of whether we want to investigate a compulsory uniform will be asked early next term in our annual consultation survey along with some other questions. What do you think? Have we enough of an option already there?

Reporting Absence or Bus Change: It is important to remember that school has to know where your child is on any given school day. The attendance roll is a legal requirement and we have to record the reason why any child is absent. This needs to be done by phone call as these messages are used to check off known absences and then any unexplained absences are contacted from the office. Please do not email messages about daily absences or bus/transport notices. Please use #1 for absences #2 for all bus notifications and #3 to leave an office message. Number 2 is the only line cleared for bus changes.

Regards Tim Lovelock Principal

MATAI 9 (Mrs Polaschek & Mrs Lemin) This week we welcome Emelia King and her family to the Matai team. It is great to have you in our class. We also farewell Kaia as she heads home after a term with us. All the best to Kaia and her Mum and Dad. The children enjoyed their shared lunch today so thank you so much for your support with this. No doubt you have heard our exciting news! Matai are taking assembly for the first time this week. Thank you for your help with 'learning lines'. Please pop along and watch if you are able to. We are finalising our inquiry about Play this week. We are linking everything together and coming up with some conclusions about Play and how it is healthy for us. We are so proud of the hard work the children have put in this term. Their success with their counting goals is particularly exciting. They are very aware of their goals and they can make some great choices to help them move towards reaching their goals. Have a great week! Certificates - Ella McEwan-Franks and Kayden Scott

MIRO 5 (Mrs Godby) & RATA 4 (Mrs Aurik) Last week Rawe were lucky enough to have Mr Parker Ormond and two third year students from the Southland campus come and teach us actions with the tititoria. This was part of our inquiry about play. We are continuing with the tititoria this week. The children are practising the moves we learned and trying out a few that they make up themselves. We are having lots of fun and increasing our skill level in Physical Education this week. We are practising defending and attacking with a basketball. There still seems to be a mountain of spare clothing in lost property so please come and check the box before the end of the term and it all goes! Enjoy the second last week of the term.

KOWHAI 2 (Mrs Kahukura) & RIMU 3 (Miss Burton) Kawaka This week is our last week working on Multiplication and Division. We have been learning so much and most of us have been colouring in our hexagons pink for "can do with evidence". Come in and have a look at our tracking books to see what we have done. • Niall - I think multiplication is fun because we can work out how many groups of numbers. • Angus - I like learning new things about multiplication. • Alex - I like racing people when we do our basic facts challenge. In P.E we are learning how to play netball. We are gearing up for a class challenge netball tournament next week. The teachers will be looking for positive encouragement and fair play. Certificates: Aimee Phibbs-Giesser, Logan Thornton, Isaiah Bragg, Ingrid Patterson TOTARA 7 (Mr Murray) & KAURI 8 (Mr Herring) Akotoa are working really hard on their eBooks on Play. We're sure a lot of them will make great entries into Media Mash this year, too. Good luck to the seniors competing in the Rippa Rugby tournament this Friday at Rugby Park. We're sure they'll do well.
