2013

2013 Mid year reports Our mid year reports reflect a full half year of work which is why they are sent home to you this Friday. These summary reports are then followed up by our mid year interviews in Week 2 of Term 3. These 3 way conference conversations, along with the written summary report sent home, will together give you a complete overview of how your child is progressing and achieving across the curriculum and in their attitude towards their learning. The 3 way conferences are available to book now. Please take the time to do this as they are an important part of our partnership with you in your child's learning journey. Like last year they will run over one after school / early evening (Tuesday 6 August: 1 - 5.30pm) and one afternoon session (Wednesday 7 August: 3.15 - 7.30pm). School will finish at 12.30 on the Tuesday 6 August. Booking details for interviews are inside the newsletter.

Community opportunity for farewell As this is the last week for Jan Forde as a staff member of Myross Bush School we would like to give our parent community the opportunity to have a shared lunch in the Activity Centre with the staff and children. This would be a chance to acknowledge and celebrate Jan's 10 years of commitment and effort to our school and your children. This is an open invitation and if you would like to attend then please turn up from 12.30 with a shared plate. No RSVP is required. This will be followed by our whole school assembly which will start at an earlier time of 2pm. As already mentioned in the comments on our facebook wall Jan has been a huge part of our children's successful start to their school life. Her passion and enthusiasm in working with our 5 year olds and running the Junior team of our school has always set a great example to all staff and is a credit to her professionalism and desire to make a

difference for our children. Her strong leadership skills have been a real asset to the wider school and to our leadership team. I personally thank her for the support and partnership in working together with Mark and I in helping to set the scene to create that atmosphere of possibilities amongst our staff and children! Some parents have also expressed the wish to make a contribution towards a gift for Jan. This is by no means expected but if you would like to do so then that can be done at the office by Thursday lunchtime. Please contact the office if you need to clarify any of the above detail. 2013 Ski Trip Please see the flyer with this newsletter to register your interest by this Friday 12pm. Regards Tim Lovelock Principal

KAURI 8 (Mrs Polaschek& Mrs Forde) A big welcome to Luke Barlow who joined the team this week - we hope he has many happy school days. I have had a wonderful term with Kauri kids and our redesigned collaborative teaching programme. I wish to extend my thanks for the support and contribution you have all shown me as we work alongside each other in creating the best possible start to school for your children. I will miss this bunch of enthusiastic children and look forward to catching up from time to time. I wish Mel Lemin all the best as she joins Amy Polaschek next term and would also like to acknowledge the contribution Rachel Davis has put in to Kauri kids as she shifts her focus to Rata children by providing management release to Evelyn Aurik. She has been a vibrant part of the teaching trio in Kauri. Certificates: Joseph Polaschek and Max Pagan for making a huge effort in their reading. RIMU 3 (Mrs Godby) We are all looking forward to the holidays but we hope the weather improves a bit so we can all get outside! I will be sending home some reading books so that everyone can keep up their reading over the next two weeks. You will still be able to go on to Study Ladder to access the activities on that site. The children will all have flash cards sets and the blog will have games to help with basic facts practice too. I hope everyone has a nice, warm and happy break. Regards Natalie.

TOTARA 7 (Miss Duncan) • I'm enjoying Moffett Cup Practice. The rugby teams we have are awesome. Pete the bus driver is my coach and he makes training fun. I like how we have a mini game after we practice. He knows a lot about rugby. Jackson • This is my last my week at Myross Bush School. I will miss all my friends and the friendly teachers and Mr Lovelock. I hope everyone has a great rest of the year. Karlee • I enjoy news time when we do kiwikidsnews.co.nz and kids.nationalgeographic.com. I like it because I am giving my opinion and what I think about the news topics. I have been getting good at putting in more information and giving feedback to my buddies on our class page. Sammie KOWHAI 2 (Mr Herring) We've had a great week of creating our projects about the seasons this week. Students are working in groups or on their own to make movies, posters, mind maps and instructional videos that explain why we have seasons on Earth. We are really enjoying having others give us feedback on how we can make them better. There have been some great reflections on the term so far. The improvements many students have made in basic facts, spelling and all our other curriculum skills have been amazing and I want to thank all of our parents for the efforts with consolidating this at home. Have a great holiday, everyone!

Certificates: Ricky and Lucy. RATA 4 (Mrs Aurik) It's hard to believe that this is the last week of Term 2. We have all really enjoyed learning about tools that help us to think and learn. The children have worked hard and deserve a holiday. It would be a good time to have a look around for school reading books and library books. We would love to have these back. Thanks for your support. MIRO 5 (Mrs Kahukura) Miro are sad to say goodbye to a wonderful class member Jayden. We wish Jayden and his family all the best for the future. A huge thank you to Mrs Brown, Mrs Cocker and Mrs Hegan for their parent help in Miro. It is greatly appreciated. Thank you for returning overdue library books. This makes Mrs F.M's job much easier. Have a safe and happy holiday MANUKA 6 (Mrs Carr) Well done on a super terrific and hard working term Manuka! You all deserve a holiday! Thank you to all the wonderful parents support, whether it is in homework, emails, sending along a box of tissues, in class help or talking with your children about their day! I hope to see you all refreshed and excited to go on another learning adventure in Term 3. Certificates: Taleeha Stewart for working hard on her basic facts and Liam Roberts for being organised with his homework. Kind regards, Della Carr.
