Traditionally, Filipino historians have concentrated their writings on the general history of the Filipino nation. Historians mainly focus their collective effort on Manila – it being the colonial and national seat of the government, as well as the center of commercial, cultural, and education of the colony and the nation. There has been no attention given to the day-to-day affairs of ordinary men in history as they lived out in provinces in their struggle for survival. Local history provides a more accurate and faithful portrayal of reality. Exposure to different facets of Philippine history through the lens of eyewitnesses enables the audience to understand and appreciate our rich past by deriving insights from a local area covering three colonial periods.
