Bring the family out for a night of great food and an outdoor movie on the picturesque campus of SCC. By Andrew Tessmer The Cottleville Weldon Spring Chamber of Commerce (CWS) in partnership with St. Charles Community College Foundation are pairing-up to host the second Food Truck Frolic, which will be held conjunction with the outdoor summer movie series at St. Charles Community College on the evening of June 27. Back by popular demand, Food Truck Frolic, which drew over 3,000 attendees last year, will be held in the college’s red parking lot from 5 - 8:30 pm. The Outdoor Summer Movie Series, presented by the St. Charles Community College Friends & Alumni and Student Activities, will be shown at sundown on the lawn outside the Technology Building near the orange parking lot on SCC’s campus. The CWS chamber teamed up with the SCC Foundation to present the Food Truck Frolic for the first time in Sept. 2013. It was such a success, and so well received, that the pairing decided to do it all summer. The two organizations plan on making this a summer tradition to provide the community an inexpensive night out and a great opportunity to experience a variety of the St. Louis food truck scene that is normally only in the city of St. Louis. This years food trucks may very by
date, but may include St. Louisiana Q, La Tejana Tacqueria, Yo Salsa, Zia’s, Slice of the Hill, Steak Louie, Sarah’s Cake Shop, Destination Desserts, My Big Fat Greek Truck, Kona Ice, Stelly Belly, and Local vendors VB’s Chocolate bar for wine and specialty cocktails especially their famous Chocolate Martini!, and Shamrock’s who will be providing domestic and craft beer. “We are providing a fun, safe environment for families of all ages to celebrate summer and enjoy an inexpensive evening outdoors,” Kristin Ward, Food Truck Frolic chairperson, said. “Whether you just come for the food trucks or for the food trucks and the family movie night, there is something for everyone and every palate to enjoy.” The Frolic will feature a variety of activates, including a helmet safety check presented by UMSL Nurses Outreach, Cottleville Firefighters Outreach, and St. Louis Children’s hospital; music sponsored by Floyd Glass; multiple mascot appearances by local teams and business, and, of course, a showing of The Lego Movie at sundown. All activities are free, even parking on campus at SCC. Children can bring their own helmets to be inspected at the helmet safety check, and make sure that it fits correctly. Parents and kids will be taught how to put a helmet
on correctly. Kids are encouraged to bring their bikes. The first 50 to visit the safety station will be provided a free helmet. “We love hosting events that bring the entire community together on our campus,” said Mandi Smith, SCC student activities coordinator. “This evening offers fun for the whole family without breaking the budget.” See FOOD TRUCK on page 2
