The 6th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Foundation event is expected to draw record crowds to Cottleville On March 15, 2014, the St. Patrick’s Day Foundation will host its sixth annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration in Cottleville. Though Cottleville only has a population of only 3,500, the Foundation’s St. Patrick’s Day celebration is quickly becoming a tradition for area families. In 2013, over 4,000 runners participated in the 7,000-meter run and nearly 70,000 revelers watched the parade. In total, the event generated $10,000 in donations for local charities and the Cottleville Fire and Police Department. “Establishing a family tradition was our intent from the beginning,” says Mike Reiter, a founding member of the St. Patrick’s Day Foundation who predicts the parade will attract over 75,000 people this year. “We wanted a unique way to help our local merchants establish roots within the community and to support our local nonprofits at the same time. Wow, just how quickly it has grown? I don’t know that anyone could have predicted that.” And the parade continues to grow in unpredictable ways. Here are some of the notable features for 2014: • For the first time in the Cottleville parade’s history, The Shiners of Eastern Missouri, always a big attraction at parades, will be displaying their driving techniques and raising awareness for
children. • Monsignor Callahan from St. Joseph Cottleville will be Irishman of the Year, a recognition that rewards positive community impact. • Steve Ehlmann, will be the Grand Marshall in the parade.
