18th annual Sip & Savor allows for a diverse sampling of local fare By Brett Auten Try what you like or try it all. It is time to embrace your inner foodie and make your way to the 18th annual Sip & Savor taste event. Hosted by the Greater St. Charles County Chamber of Commerce, the event is set for Thursday, Sept. 1 at 370 Lakeside Park, located at 1000 Lakeside Drive. Over a stretch of three hours, from 5 to 8 p.m., a bevy of local food and beverage establishment will be available to sample, share and critique. In all, over 50 different restaurants, wineries, breweries and more will be on hand. Early ticket pricing is $30; week of event is $35 and sales in groups of 10 or more are $25 each. Once inside the event, patrons are set. There are no additional food and beverage tickets to buy and there is even a picnic plate given to each ticket holder so they can take back their favorite choices. There is nothing sold at the event as it is a tasting only. “What I think is the best part and what separates us from other festivals is the all-inclusive ticket,” Lori Tainter, VP
Member Services & New Media Relations Greater St. Charles County Chamber of Commerce said. SugarBot Sweet Shop is a relative newcomer when it comes to Sip & Savor, making its debut there last year. SugarBot made a name for itself in St. Louis and is known for its desserts and baked goods. It’s built a reputation for taking sweets that you remember from your childhood and putting a better spin on them. SugarBot is a small family-owned bakery that is dedicated to quality, making all of its cookies, pastries and baked goods 100-percent from scratch and using top quality ingredients, baking in small batches and using great old-fashioned flavors. “We take things like Twinkees or Moon Pies that you may remember as a kid and we make them fresh on site,” SugarBot owner and chief baker Jackie Huebbe said. “It was neat to get out and talk and meet people at last year’s Sip & Savor. This year we have a little more help, so that will give us a chance to get out a little more and see what’s to offer and get the word out about SugarBot.”
SugarBot moved from Webster Groves to the corner of Jackson and 5th Street a little over a year ago. The switch surprised some of SugarBots loyal followers as St. Charles isn’t known for its eclectic pallet … just yet.
