Santa and Mrs. Claus take a moment together at last year’s Christmas in Old Town celebration in Florissant.
Florissant set to host traditional Christmas in Old Town celebration By Sara Hardin The city of Florissant will be hosting its annual Christmas in Old Town celebration this Saturday, Dec. 6; complete with plenty of activities for everyone to enjoy, including a visit from the jolly man in red. Mayor Thomas P. Schneider invites everyone to come and participate in the various activities that will be available at the event. “I’d like to tell everybody to join us at Florissant City Hall to celebrate our 229th Florissant Christmas on Saturday afternoon,” said Schneider. “We’ll have caroling and Santa, followed by the lighting of our Christmas display at city hall at 5 p.m.” The event will be hosted by Old Town Partners, who host many events in Historic Old Town Florissant including the Valley of Flowers Festival in the spring and the Florissant Fall Festival. Kati Mahoney with Old Town Partners described some of the events that will be taking place at the celebration this weekend. “Photo opportunities are available for kids to get their picture taken with San-
ta,” said Mahoney. “There will be cookie decorating, hot cocoa, a storyteller and a clown making balloon animals. The St. Louis County Library will have crafts for children. We have lots of gift bags and goodies for the kids. There will be space for families to sit down and enjoy their cookies and cocoa. Santa leaves around 4:30 p.m. and then the mayor will light the tree at approximately 5 p.m.” For the adults who want to partake in the festivities, there will also be shopping and dining available to enjoy through many of the retail shops and restaurants that Old Town Florissant has to offer. The event will start at 2 p.m. and end with the lighting of the Christmas tree. Project Lift Off, sponsored by the City of Florissant, the Florissant Youth Advisory Commission, and D.A.R.E., will also be held on Saturday in the James J. Eagan Center from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. for fifth to eighth graders. Tickets will be available at the James J. Eagan Center for $6 before Saturday and for $8 until 5 p.m. on Saturday, or until sold out. Tickets will not be available at the door. A resident card must be shown
when purchasing tickets and one ticket may be purchased for a non-resident guest. The holiday party will have activities for the kids, a DJ playing music and refreshments. See OLD TOWN CHRISTMAS page 2
