17th annual Florissant Old Town Fall Festival promises By Shawn Clubb something for everyone Stop looking for something to do on Oct. 12, because Florissant Old Town Partners and the city of Florissant have you and your whole family covered. The 17th Annual Florissant Old Town Fall Festival from 11 am to 5 pm Sunday, Oct. 12, offers so much to do that even dogs are sure to have a good time. “We have a lot of crafters. We have the flea market. We have food. We have the bands. We’ve got it all,” said Kati Mahoney, coordinator for Florissant Old Town Partners. Eleven blocks on rue St. Francois in Old Town Florissant will be closed off for the street festival, which will feature more than 150 booths of games, craft items and food vendors. More than 60 crafters will show off their works at the craft fair, where they will offer people the opportunity to get a jump start on their holiday shopping or just get their hands on some hand-crafted items. Festival activities will include a chili cook-off, a wine garden, a flea market, pumpkin decorating, jewelry making, a lawn mower display, antique tractors and a military vehicle display, and lots of live entertainment. The Old St. Ferdinand Shrine will feature food, children’s activities, a flint knapper and more.
Acts that will perform along the street include the Dixie Rhythm Kings, Cookie the Clown, Dan Sproat, Kraig Klbrenner, Pat and Anna Auberry, the Kincaid Karacter Puppets, stilt-walker and juggler Richard Renner and stilt-walker Vince DeLaughder, storyteller Carol Brady, North County Big Band, Dennis Schilligo, The Buckhannon Brothers, and Bryson Gerard. The featured act this year will be The Ralph Butler Band, compliments of the Missouri Art’s Council and the Regional Arts Council. The group will perform at 1 and 3 pm on the band shell on the Lawyers Building lot in the 100 block of St. Francois. However, another headliner will perform on the band shell in advance of the festival. The Florissant Fine Arts Council through the support of the Missouri Arts Council and Regional Arts Commission will present the Smash Band at 7 pm Saturday, Oct. 11. As always, the festival will go to the dogs with the return of the Fido Follies dog show at the Government Center at 1055 rue St. Francois. Categories in the contest include smallest dog, largest dog, best trick, best costume and best kisser. Everyone is invited to bring their
licensed and leashed dogs to the show. Water bowls will be available on every block. “It is a dog-friendly festival,” Mahoney said. “Everybody brings their dogs.” The Children’s Art Festival sponsored by the Hazelwood Head Start Program and the Florissant Valley Community See OLD TOWN FALL FESTIVAL page 2
