During the academic year of 2019/20, a year which presented extraordinary challenges for the arts due to the COVID- 19 pandemic, the arts continued to connect with students, staff and external community to entertain, bring joy, shine a light on important questions and challenge us in our thinking.

During this year the arts programme of events reached a total audience of 32,290 people. These arts activities enhance the student experience, engage with staff and connected CIT with the communities in which we are situated.

Returning The Gaze

Irene Meade treats her practice as a portal through which she, and by extension a viewer, is allowed, in a most literal sense of the word, to study. Simplicity, honesty, and the subjective nature of how we, as individuals, encounter a piece, or another person, are key elements in her Practice. Utilizing drawing, video and photography, Meade’s pieces strive not to mirror, but to explore truth.

Life drawing is a hugely important part of studying Fine Art at CIT Crawford College of Art & Design, and has been since it’s foundation. Many students use it as a base to develop observation and composition, with some focussing on it as their primary medium.
